Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Horrible experience

First off this place should be charged with stealing for charging $55 to play at this hay field. Greens might be worst I’ve ever seen. The staff is very unfriendly and have horrible customer service. Would not recommend playing here for free.

The course layout is OK

The course is nice, but the greens are bad. The greens are punched and sanded with no aeration alert given at the time of booking. In it's current condition, the course is not worth the greens fee charged. The opinion held by our entire foursome. Restructure your fee charged based on course condition.

Timberlake

Played this course 6 months ago with my wife. Putting green was closed at that time as was driving range. Since the club we usually play at was closed for maintence this week my group took a chance on playing Timberlake. We were sorely disappointed. This time putting green was also closed and was heavily sanded with maintenance crew working on it but driving range was open. This time all of the greens were heavily sanded and tee boxes were in poor condition. Things have to improve significantly before we will return.

Golf now should have made us aware of the condition of the course. Very disappointed in Golfnow.

No

So after booking and arriving the clubhouse attendant asked if golfnow explained that we would have to play the front nine twice . At first I thought he was joking, but alas he was not. The greens were being punched on the back nine. The front was punched earlier the in the week. They had so much sand on the greens that it was playing in the traps. No break, no speed, just horrible conditions. I understand the need for maintenance but inform before people pay the asking rate.

Rough Greens & Tee Boxes

The greens and tee boxes were in bad shape. For being the only course on Lake Murray I would really expect them to keep the course in better shape.

Still one of the best in Columbia area

5 Star course layout and clubhouse. Suffering a tad from drought and so much play but still a true gem.

The course layout is challenging and fun but the course is in rough shape right now. Greens are really rough, tee boxes are not well maintained at present. Staff is great and super friendly. It really can be a fun course to play if and when they get it back to the condition it was in a couple years ago.

Poor greens

Clubhouse and staff were excellent. The fairways were in decent condition. However all the slopes ran out of bounds and the greens were some of the worst I have ever seen. Almost unplayable. Will not return

Beautiful course

Really love this golf course. The pace of play is great almost like we was on the course all alone. Only small issues the amount of home construction and the greens have been recently aeritated and heavy sanded. Realizing this a need for healthy and green greens not a big issue. I will definately play this again as soon as I can.

Really bad management

If you are going to overcharge for a course in the middle of major “renovations” you should actually warn the golfer.

Greens are unplayable

Grass is gone on most holes

Should be a $20 course

This place has gone wayyyy downhill

working on course

We have played this course many times when it was beautiful but they were aerating back so we played front twice. They are doing a lot of work, cutting trees etc but obviously not watering the grass. Very brown and just sandy recently aerated greens. We will be back, love this course around the lake but will give it at least a month to get back into playing condition.

Wouldn’t Recommend.

Wouldn’t recommend this course. Guy in Pro Shop didn’t even give key to cart after paying. Went back in and he said he did. Explained that I didn’t and he had attitude. Course has sand everywhere on fairways and the greens are in bad shape. Tee times were way too close. Had 4 different guys teeing off in front of us on Hole 1. Took 5 hours to play 18 holes. Don’t play here.
