Rating 71.9

Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

The course was in much better shape than the customer service. I was walking in the front door with my wife and my hands were full. The manager looked at me, did not greet me, acknowledge me, nor smile. He had nothing in his hand and open the door just enough for him to slip in and have the door close in my face. I asked the guy at the counter if the guy was an employee there. He said he was a manager. I told him what happened and he quickly moved on without addressing my concern. I guess he expected it and I should have also. On the way out of the pro shop the manager had his hands full and told me I could go first. He wanted me to open the door for him. I insisted that he go. Fortunately for him, a customer was coming in. The customer held the door for both of us. Really guys...Its the little things. What is in your heart eventually comes out in words and deeds. Please do a little soul searching and learn how to treat ALL customers.

Northwoods Review

I’m a 70 yo female and my husband is 81. We are weekly golfers and play a variety of courses in the Midlands. Our chief complaint is that you do not offer super senior tees in front of the red tees

Also we noticed several younger golfers removing the flag stick on the greens which is not following the Covid19 CDC guidelines.

Also sprinkling system was turned on during course of play on one of our holes while in play.

Otherwise, beautiful course and friendly staff!

Ranger was an absolute nightmare

Had two run-in’s and heard of multiple others with the ranger. Rounding the 9th hole we were told to “pick up the pace” after being 5 minutes over the suggested front 9 expected time. He then jumped in our cart on a “cart path only” par 3 and whipped it 4 feet back on the cart path when we parked it to hit. Then yelled across the fairway “follow the rules or find somewhere else to play”. He then followed us for the remaining holes. We will not be returning, he completely ruined our back 9.

Solid track!

First time playing here and my wife and I were impressed. A great variety of types of holes along with beautiful, rolling hills scenery. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good shape despite recents downpours. Play it!

Had a great time!

Had a great time. A few of the greens had some work being done on them. Not a huge deal to me. The rest of the course looked to be in good shape. My only complaint: the cart paths are as bad as I’ve ever seen. They really need work. Overall, we had a great time and would come back.

Great layout and fun, but those cart paths

The course was in pretty good condition except a few greens were burnt, however, the main fall back here is going to be the cart paths. I’ve never given feedback that said to fix your cart paths on a course because most of the time you can either avoid it or put up with it, but The Spur needs this ASAP. Probably not a surprise by the pro or super, but just know that it makes the course unbearable to an extent.

Very friendly staff, A+ ranger on the course. Friendly and welcoming.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. We have projects underway to recover the tee boxes, fairways, greens, and sandtraps.. We hope you'll bear with us through this transition and give us another try in the near future. Thanks for choosing Northwoods Golf Course.

The course is pretty nice, but my only negative comment is that there needs to be more markers and the markers they do have should be more visible.

People of Color are Not Welcome

Staff has no respect for paying customers, and people of color. On Monday, we only had 2 in our group, from the starter to the maintenance crew; It was evident that people of color were not welcome at this course; to include stopping equipment when Whites were on the tee box and greens. When the maintenance staff was on the green, staff stop working to allow Whites to play through, but wouldn't do the same for Blacks (we had to wait 5 to 6 minutes). When the issue what's brought to the attention of the golf course manager, he made an excuse supporting the behavior of the staff by saying they needed to finish before the next large group/rush of golfers showed up.

I found this explanation to be unethical and unacceptable, after all, we were paid customers who deserved the same type of respect and dignity that the other customers did. We will never play this course again!

Never going back

I've tried to like this course but it's a waste of money and time. There are like 15 other courses in a 20 mile radius that would be better to play at.

-course is always water logged even if it hasnt rained for weeks

-pace of play isnt really that bad but the way they stack tee times makes it terrible. If you arent in a 4 some be ready to take about 3-4 extra minutes between each shot. Even if it's not busy

-staff doesn't care

-it's a nice layout but in terrible shape all year round, greens especially

-cart path is terrible

-most bunkers have rocks

I couldnt even finish my round the last two times I played there. I want to like it. It is the closest to my house. But it just seems to be a waste of money every time I go out there
