upgrade my previous review
I have not played this course in about 8 weeks.
It is considerable better shape than my last trip there. Greens a bit slow but very puttable and receptive to shots. Saw some progress on front 9 fairways and back side in good shape except for 16th fairway has obvious problems. The course is a very good layout and the value was superb. Despite my last negative review I see some progress in the conditions and I will definitely return
Great value for price
Fairways need a lot of attention otherwise very pleased.
Good Value
Overall the course conditions could use some work.. however not bad for the price .
Its golf
I have played this course many times. I call it Hidden Grass CC for a reason. They have a sign on 7 that says ground under repair tee to green now. Frankly every hole ahould have this. For 17 bucks on a Saturday at leaat its golf. There is grass on the greens. The layout is good and your hardpan lies skills will be tested.
Golf Now Hidden Valley Sc
Golf now allowed a 7:08 am tee time but the course didn't open until 8??! Also, the GN priced had zero discount
Needs Work
The greens were superb, which was a giant improvement from the last time I played Hidden Valley, about one year ago.
Still, the lack of grass in tee boxes, weeds in bunkers and the fairways all take away from this course getting anything but below average ratings. Fairways are basically hard-pan throughout the course.
I wish the course was in better shape because I live near by and would like to participate in their tournaments and special play activities. They do have a good program for that in this area.
Friendly Staff
Course is getting better every time we play.. staff is always friendly !
We loved it! A bit challenging for me!
I, like many avid golfers, enjoy finding different courses to play. Finding the course was a challenge in itself!. However, We were greeted by a lady and a gentleman in the pro shop. They both were extremely nice and helpful, they even gave us a quick little tour since it was our first time. The lady said to come in at the turn for a bite to eat and a cold beer or a fireball shot LOL! My Dad seemed to find that funny! The hotdogs were very tasty and the beer cold! The course had some issues (washouts) on a few holes from the rain.(understandable)The greens were in great shape however, and the fairways, well, they were fair! You can tell they have been working on the course! I would definitely come back!
Not good
The fairway grass is long and in some places too long. Just off the fairway is weeds and Bahia grass that was 2 feet long in some places. The sand traps and bunkers are terrible with some weed filled. The greens were ok but slow. Just not impressive in any way. I would and will not go back to play this course and would tell you to play somewhere else if you want to play a course in good shape.
Stay away
I play golf all over the Columbia area and I hate to say Hidden Valley is almost as bad as Charwood. Maybe a tie. No tee boxes. All grass on them are gone. A lot of holes they had moved the tee boxes out into the fairway(no grass there either).
Its sad when you pay $22 for this and you can go to Indian River and pay $23 for a course that is probably 80% better. Pay $35 and go to Cobblestone. The list goes on.
Course lacking grass
Very little grass on fairways, tee boxes... basically anywhere. Greens were in good shape but there just isn't any grass on the rest of the course.
Typical winter and after flooded course
This is a course you cant b complain about its condition due to the recent rains over the past few months. It's a Sandy area, therefore making it difficult to try and keep maintained. I will still play here bc the summer time season, the course is usually in grand shape.
OK
This course is OK. Nothing to write home about but a good cheap alternative. The greens were in good shape. Fairways OK . Off the fairway is in very bad shape and you're at your own risk.
Course Review
First time playing the course. Its ok, it seems aliitle out of shape. The greens were in good shape, the fairways were ok, not many challenges The staff was friendly, and helpful. Can't say I would go back, there are alot of other places which are better.
Good greens, poor fairways
While the greens were in good condition, the fairways were often weedy, sandy, and eroded. Some tee boxes were moved to accommodate the problem.
Great course to play
Very good experience with staff upon arrival very informative decent selection of edibles. At departure there was a lady present who seemed to be very disengaged while working the desk but there was very little need for chit chat after 18 holes. Overall a good experience.
Great layout
This course has a very challenging layout. Great holes that present varying degrees of difficulty. This course has obviously seen better days, and is need of some fairway TLC, but the greens are great.
Greens are the only things worth it
The greens are the only things on this course that are maintained. The fairways are mostly sand, dirt, rocks, and weeds. There are no cart paths. Just sand paths. The tee boxes are dirt and weeds. They are not level and bumpy. Definitely not worth $35 to play. You can play at a top rated course for the same price.
