Timberlake Country Club
About
Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

4th hole par three. Pond in front and lake to right and back Photo submitted by u631580812 on 07/01/2019
One of the top courses in the area!
Course is in great shape and only getting better! Fun and challenging.
Only can rate ‘not too bad’
My first visit, my wife and I were joined with two other unrelated singles, and we had a great time. The fairways are hard as are the greens, possible due to lack of rain. But what about sprinkler system?
The greens were smooth but grainy for sure. Pay attention.
The Par 3’s are no joke. 3 of 4 are quite challenging. Pretty course, great scenic location, and had potential to be a fun, excellent track, But not yet
Bunkers look renovated. Nice. I was in a few.
There are certainly bare/sparse areas in the fairway and around greens.
The range is an embarrassment to someone who wants a good rating. You’ll be lucky not to injure yourself with thin mats over concrete. EVERYONE knows not to do this. How about rubber gym mats underneath or thick mat? I couldn’t hit a small bucket, hitting ‘down and through’. The range encourages ‘picking clean’ to avoid injury.
I think this could be more fun in the future. Beveridge cart had no Gatorade-like option. GPS units are mounted down at the drink holders in the carts, and you cup obscures data.
Everyone on staff was friendly. We finished 30 minutes later than 4 hours, somewhat attributable to lovable, talkative locals.
There are precious few ‘cart sticks’ to tell you where to pull off short of the green. But with GPS geolocation on the cart, you get disabled temporarily (no concerns) but you can’t tell where the course would like you to be.
Bottom line: I would return. And hope for gradual improvements.
Amazing course Great staff
Very fun layout with tons of elevation & good rolling greens. Challenging tight tee shots on some holes with blind shots. Good price for the product IMO. Staff is always super great aswell! Highly recommend checking this place out
Excellent but not for beginners!
This is an awesome course and I will definitely play here again. I’m new to golf and this was my 2nd time playing 18, the first being at Newberry. In my opinion, this course is not for beginners. The fairways aren’t beginner friendly and the pressure of not wanting to hit very expensive properties for the best of me. The course was in good condition and the very experienced gentleman that I was paired with shared the same praise. Carts and pathways were great and the staff was top tier. Overall, great experience and I can’t wait until I improve to return.
tricky challenging course
shots are super careful, short but sure situations
Hard but fun
This course is extremely difficult. Narrow fairways throughout and be prepared to hit off un even lies. Beautiful scenery of the lake, lots of water hazards.
Best in the Midlands
The best...against the rest, but the bar isn't extremely high.
Garbage
Course is rough, rougher then the times I’ve played before. Will not be back ever.
Great Day
Went as single player. Played first 9 with another single. Then played with twosome on back. All are members and were very welcoming towards me. Pace of play very good & course conditions excellent.
Great course with great facilities in a great location
Timberlake is a great golf course - the layout features a wide variety of hole designs, good water features, excellent bunkers and good greens. It is a pleasure to play and a fairly good value outside of Masters week. The practice green and driving range are just out the back of the clubhouse. Carts are new and have GPS. There is a lot of elevation change and distance between holes, so I would not recommend walking it. Fairways are not fully green yet (early April), but we rarely had a bad lie in the fairways. Greens were slower than normal, but rolled well. Throw in some nice lake views and it makes for a great day on the golf course.
Perfect choice for oour trip
Found the course on-line and once we arrived everything was top shelf service from the golf shop, to 1st tee to when we left course. We live in Maryland and were only in town for a special event but we will make a point to come back if only to play this course several times!
Coulda shoulda woulda
Could be a nice golf course. Views of the lake and several holes that play over water. Hilly and a few blind shots to keep it interesting. Too many houses lining several holes and a country club feel overall. Lots of work being done to greens, traps and fairways. This course needs lots of work. Someday it may e special again. Keep working on it.
Repairs are being done
Course is normally pristine and challenging but all the bunkers are under repair and there are some areas under repair so beware. Otherwise, staff as always are excellent and course is challenging and you are surrounded by the beauty of Lake Murray with lots of deer.
Fun course to play
Overall good course. They are working on the bunkers, couldn’t hit out of them but beyond that I’ll play again.
Ground Under Repair
Nice course, several holes with lake views--beautiful. THREE holes were shut down due to renovations. That said, some traps had already been filled with new white sand...real sand! Challenging, but fair layout. Looking forward to next round later in the spring.
Great course. Will be back
Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area. Course was amazing. Greens were longer but rolled true.
New cart paths are great! You can tell they take pride in their course
Slow Play
Took 3+ hours to play front 9. Reason given was thete was senior tournament earlier in the day. There were 5 groups on 7th hole tee box. Yes, 5 groups. As we were driving down hole 9 fairway, an employee drove up and advised we would be given a free round play for the inconvenience. When round completed, different employee gave free play for 9 holes. Response was we were able to finish 18 holes. Reason for this was many groups left after offer made. Very disappointed a change had been to original offer. Improvement needed on managing tee times when there is tournament.
