The Golf Club At Star Fort
About
The Golf Club at Star Fort sits near the site of a Revolutionary battle known as the Assault at Star Fort. The golf course offers a family-friendly layout surrounded by the region's rich history. The player-friendly design is gentle enough for junior players and beginners, but it's also great for more advanced players who are looking for a quick round. It will surprise you with a few challenges too. At 6,952 yards, the golf course isn't terribly long but there are still some good driving holes. There are some interesting risk-reward par 5s and some fun par 3s that will make you think. Star Fort's final hole is a par 4 that requires accuracy over distance since you'll have to weave through two ponds before facing an uphill shot to a well bunkered green.

Challenging and enjoyable. Ponds need cleaning up. Always been a risk for snakes and such but otherwise the course was nice.
Fun course
I've played here a few times. This was the first time the course conditions weren't good. However, the course hasn't seen rain in a couple weeks or so. That's why it played the way it did. It was dry, hard, fast, and brown. The greens were touch slow, but I could understand why. We still had a lot of fun and I will be playing it again in a tournament next week. The staff was great and the overall facilities sufficed. It was a very fun day.
Not worth the time
Tee boxes did not show hole numbers or map of holes. The fairways were hard and still brown. The greens had mow marks all over them. The course was not in very good shape.
good time
me and a friend played 9 holes and they was having a lot of seniors playing so yhey let us start on the back 9 and we had no problem, the rates were really good because I booked them online through golf now. Ben White
Wonderful Golf Course
My friend and I always enjoy Star Fort. It is one of our favorites
Nice Course Friendly People
I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice the course was and how friendly everyone is. The cost to play was worth twice what I paid. The course is in good shape. The layout is just challenging enough to make for a great round of golf.
Hidden gem
Greens were perfect. This course is a hidden gem. I will drive 90 minutes to play again.
Decent course for the money
Got a good deal to play at Star Fort and it was a good course for the money.. Very far out if you're driving from Greenville so that was a drawback. Greens (which I believe to be the most important aspect of a golf course) were excellent.. Smooth with a lot of contours which made them challenging yet fair. Fairways were in average condition as were the tee boxes. There weren't a lot of hazards overall with a pretty open layout. I would definitely want to play again to know where to hit greens.. Some places on the green can make some difficult putts.
course well manicured
live abot10miles from course will go back when opportunity available. had a great time.
Fun course!
The course in in great shape now. Nice fairways and greens. The greens are a little slow however. But was fun!
very nice course
drove about an hour to play here and didnt know what to expect,i was very impressed.the greens are in extremely good shape and the fairways are nice too.got a great deal through golfnow and will def be going back.
Greens=tabletop
Let me first start off by saying this was a very affordable round of golf. The greens were well maintained and very difficult. They like to cut the hole directly on a ridge or behind a sand trap. The clubhouse and pool have a very "Caddyshack" style to them. The course is also in the middle of nowhere.
But I'd say it's a good value. Challenging with good greens.
Great greens
The greens were in awesome shape! Fast and true! Fairways are grass covered but the grass is spottie in some spots!
Best Greens In Town
Great shape! Bunkers are good fairways are green but the greens are top notch!!!!!
bad members
Played behind a group of 5 who refused to let us (2) play through. Once we finally got passed them at the turn a group of 4 refused to let us play through as well. AND THEY WAS PLAYING SUPER SLOW!!! Other than that the course was in good shape (fairways, bunkers and greens).
Poor staff
This is my home course and I have Always enjoyed it, but the staff (especially golf pro) were hateful!! We were rushed the entire time and there was no one playing behind us! I would never recommend this course because the staff had no people skills. I have been playing golf my entire life and have never been treated worse as a paying customer who payed good money to play this course!!!!
Excellent
We as a foursome had a GREAT time. The course was in excellent as we had some very cold and wet weather the past few days. Greens were in great shape. Fairways were well manicured. Overall one of the best around this area. Those reading this review- GO PLAY here you will not regret it.
Off the Beaten Path
We enjoyed a chilly late morning round at Star Fort golf club today. Showed up about 45 minutes early and hit a large bucket of balls ($6) on the range, which was in very good shape.
The front 9 really was spectacular, but not at all as easy as I read on prior reviews on golfnow. Par 3's are very challenging, with the shortest par 3 in the 160 yard range.
Bunkers were in absolute fantastic condition, and was some of the softest sand I've played out of, but as a result of being so fluffy, caused a "Fried egg" effect if your ball found them, which mine did on several holes.
Water not really in play on most holes, and greens roled very, very fast. Seems that it has not rained in Ninety-Six in quite a while, so fairways were bouncy and fast; lots of tight lies.
I drove over 95 minutes to get here and was not disapointed!
Great day at Star Fort Golf
We had a great time at Star Fort today. I played from the white tees at ~6500 yd. The course has relatively open contiguous fairways with most of the holes protected by a dog leg. By hitting over the corners I was able to hit my driver on all non par 3 holes, occasionally playing from as adjacent fairway. Most of the greens are protected by bunkers up front, so accurate approach shots are rewarded. The green size was fairly generous, the condition was very good, and had moderate break on most putts. Bunker condition was excellent. My wife had 3/4 sandies today! All par 3s were longer at 170-185 yds. Absolutely no waiting today. Electric carts and decent paths were nice. Even w/ a one hour drive, we'll be back.
A fun course.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was well maintained and the greens were in very good condition. They have done an excellent job in putting yardage markers throughout and they are accurate. It is not a very difficult course but does offer some challenges with proper pin placement. Looking forward to a return trip.
