Hole 3 par 5 Photo submitted by Rick9857150 on 09/10/2013
Slow pace/ greens need work
Should stop groups of 5/6 on the weekends. Also greens in rough shape
Disappointed
My wife (my favorite golfing partner) were extremely disappointed with the overall conditions of Heddles (soon to be Palmetto Pines) Started with the first cart we had had no emergency brakes . . . fortunately discovered before we teed off on the first hole. Only to discover that the fairways were in terrible condition and the greens not much better. For a course located in South Carolina, I am surprised it is still open . . . It is under new owners and I will give a year before playing it again. Potentially it is a good course but Needs lots of tlc and removal of dried trees as they are a fire hazard. . might play again next year but no sooner.
Not worth the price
Kinda got the vibe this place used to be great back in the day but may be struggling now. No fairways were cut, greens were a little mossy almost, and for $40 I could have gone a lot other places. Friendly staff, and infrustructure looks like it is great location, etc. but I would drop price to $30 maybe.
Where’s the Fairway?
You could not tell the difference between the fairway and the rough. The greens were super bumpy and full of weeds. The tea boxes barely had any grass on them. The course layout is actually pretty cool if it was actually maintained.
Fair Course
The fairways on some holes looked more like the rough due to the grass not being cut and the greens were not smooth causing the ball to bounce a lot.
It got worse.
So first things first, I’ve been playing at this course for 14 years. When it was actually called Heddles Hideaway. Now it’s “Palmetto Hills.” This course used to be a beautiful course, with rolling hills, tough spots, and plenty of fun. Since the name change, the greens are unkempt, causing every putt to bounce, the fairways are iffy at best, and there is no sign that ownership is really trying to make this course better. They’ve been removing some problem trees which is the only positive. Except, they were burning the dead and removed trees right off a tee box! I had smoke in my eyes teeing off.
This course used to be good. I’m hoping the new ownership improves this course, but as of right now, won’t be going back for a while.
Course has very good lay out and beautiful views.
The course is under a new construction now, new fairway. If it is done, it should be a beautiful course. The pace of play is very slow , may be over booking, and the slow players not seem to let the fast players play through.
Challenging, but fun
Being accustomed to flat courses in Florida, I found this course challenging but fun. A lot of uphill, downhill, above your feet, below your feet lies in tight fairways. Plus a number of blind shots over hills and around corners. A couple of holes are under construction. I bet this course is beautiful in the summer. Need a lot of shots in your bad to score well on this course. Will definitely play here again.
Not impressed
Layout is terrible, hills are fine but the fairways are ridiculously small and it was just a big mud pit. Will not be back
Mountain-Style Course
The course has a lot of potential and you can tell someone is putting time in to making it better. There are very few flat holes, you are either going uphill or down hill on most holes. This produces a lot of blind shots. It is definitely a course that you will score better on the more times you play it as you start to understand the layout. I would be interested to see the course during it's peak season instead of during a very wet winter.
Challenging terrain, very friendly staff
Played Heddles for first time and enjoyed the course very much. Probably wise to play with someone familiar as many holes you are hitting somewhat into the unknown. Many elevation changes made what you would think a 'short' course, play much longer. Course was wet, and a few holes were under repair, but you could see efforts were being made for improvements. In summation, had a great day and really enjoyed the course.
