Golfer Reviews
good value
Honest observations, Manager Mike was super. Pro shop fine, Snack bar and terrace need attention. Course, design super, fairwys nice, greens ugly but the greens are being totally redone starting this month and should be wonderful in fall. I really enjoyed track and am very excited about playing again with new greens. Give it a try in fall you will not be disappointed if you like interesting layouts.
Not bad
We got the warrior pack which included the green fees, cart, free club, and a box of balls. Great deal for $49; plus the carts have gps.
Economy Golf
Green fees economical, but course conditions don't warrant more. Green complexes need attention. Bunkers not playable. Layout excellent. Lots of trees have been cut down to open up the course. This was a good idea, but too late to save the cart paths which for the most part are not driveable.
GPS equipment on carts is great, but they don't match the scorecard for accuracy. Most of the time it showed a 35 to 40 yard difference.
Excellent food for a reasonable cost at the clubhouse restaurant. I highly recommend stopping for anything on the menu.
If you want a challenging course at a reasonable green fee and are willing to play in less than average conditions, Whispering Woods is the place for you.
This course is making improvements to be really good !
Course was in good shape & they are making improvements
to the greens (clearing trees for better sunlight). Staff was very friendly. Not too many people on course which made for fast play ! Would recommend to anyone visiting area !
Warrior doing a great job
It's nice to see all the work the new owners are doing on this course. Many trees cut down for the new greens coming in June. Love the new carts with GPS, I feel lost at another course now. Keep up the good work.
Straight shooter
Homes on sides of fairways, so you know. Course renovation was going on when we played, the back was prettier than the front. But, we had a good time and for the money it's hard beat.
Great course!
The staff was super friendly. The course was fun to play. Very much a placement course with both sand and water. We will be playing this one again. The staff did tell us that they are replacing the greens in July and August.
disappointed
Signed up for the Warrior club and ball special. It is a good deal because you get a club and ball for only $10.00. Even the balls alone would be half-price. However, the offered clubs that are in stock come only with regular shafts. They should either carry a greater selection or offer to ship a club that meets the player's needs.
We are sorry you were unable to find the shaft you preferred but we got a new shipment of clubs and would be more than happy to exchange for the specific shaft you are looking for. Please contact the GM at the proshop and we'd be glad to get you what you want. Thanks for your support!
Nice course, great deal.
This course is a great deal because, in part, you get a golf club and a dozen balls with the round. The course is in decent shape and is nice to play. I would definitely go here again and also recommend it to others.
The course has a sporty layout
The course needs grass on fairways and tees. Too much mud and bald fairways and tees. Nice atmosphere and very nice pro shop personnel. We would not recommend this course in its present condition. We saw the potential and wish the establishment well.
Whispering Woods
Great course, great value!
Warrior has been spending some money in repairing the fairways and greens and the course is looking great.
I remember when this course had terrible reviews and people used to never want to play it. Now I think the attitude should be changed since the new management company is providing the capital as well as operational support to make this a great place to play.
Interesting layout
We decided to grab one more round before leaving Pinehurst and found this on GolfNow at a great price. The golf course was in nice shape and had some interesting holes. Overall, I enjoyed the course and would be interested to play it again after seeing some of the holes and understanding where to play some shots. The staff was nice, friendly, and helpful.
This course is worth playing if you want satisfaction for your dollar.
For the price this course is an excellent choice. The staff was friendly and got us out onto the course quickly. The golf carts were new with built-in GPS and there was only a couple of holes on which we could not take the carts off of the cartpath. There is a good combination of challenging and easy holes and the fairway undulations are subtle. Most of the rough was good but it was a little deep in some places. The greens were good given the time of year and ran quite true and fast. We both enjoyed playing this course.
Nice layout but needs work
Played this Saturday November 10, 2012 for $20. Started at 12:30 and were finished by 4:00. I liked the layout which had a lot of elevation changes, several short doglegs and three par threes and three par fives on one side. The greens need a lot of work but aren't terrible. Just a lot of different grasses and bare in spots. I was told they are scheduled to be redone in 2013. The fairways were bermuda that wasn't over seeded but were in good shape. There is no driving range so warm up before you get there. For $20, however, it exceeded my expectations and I will go back.
Great Golf Now deal!!!
Great deal for the money. Very friendly staff. Course condition -- very good for moderately price course.
Nice Course Great Carts
Played as a 2-some.
Met by a very nice man in the clubhouse. Bought last year by Warrior golf and a lot of work has been done to upgrade the course. New carts with built-in GPS was a very nice touch and helped a lot. Greens were fast and a bit bare in spots. Man in clubhouse said that they're going to redo the greens for 2013.
I'd heard, from people that had played here in the years back, that this course was not very good and in rough shape. I hope they take another look at it. They owe it to themselves.
The residents of Whispering Pines have a real gem here!
Whispering Woods winds up and down through the town of Whispering Pines. You won't notice the backyards on this very well designed course as the elevation changes and doglegs require your full concentration. Good shot planning and solid hits will be well rewarded with a good score and a very enjoyable round. It's a course that will present new challenges each time you play it.
Look out for the speed bumps caused by root damage on various sections of the cart path. I'm sure they will be repaired soon, as the course is under new management.
I found the staff very friendly and accommodating. After the round my wife and I had a nice lunch at their cafe.
Best Course for the money
Wide open fairways, easy to get on, tee boxes and greens are improving. They just added yardage GPS units to the carts - a nice touch. I play here often, its my default choice and there are plenty of good courses around. The restaurant attached to the pro-shop is better than most and the prices are also reasonable.
Excellent course for the money!!
Beautifully laid out course with great names on each hole to capture the challenge that lies ahead. Got a special of a dozen balls and a fairway wood with a 15 dollar extra (on green fees) ... what a sweet deal. A must play if you're in the area.
Dr. Joe
Thanks for your comments. The greens will be replaced this summer with Champions bermuda grass, which is why the trees were removed surrounding them. The cart paths will be repaired during the summer as well. Thanks for the heads up on the GPS discrepancies on yardage, we will calibrate the system to insure it's accuracy. We hope you will return in the fall so you can see all the improvements we are incorporating on the course. The Cafe' is doing a wonderful job and we appreciate your support for them.
