Camarillo Springs Golf Course
About
Situated at the base of the Conejo Mountain, Camarillo Springs Golf Course was carefully carved from the mountain's towering rock formations but it gets its name from the scenic water features that can be found throughout. Naturally, water is the primary challenge on this course, coming into play on eleven holes. There are also long par 3s that will require a sharp iron game. The course offers a fair test of your skills but the elevation changes are modest and the player-friendly fairways are wide and forgiving, which make the course more accessible to beginners. The golf course has a memorable start with a par-4 second hole, which is a tricky dogleg left from an elevated tee that features one of the best views on the course. The consistently good course conditions and the affordable rates have garnered Camarillo Springs a strong following among local golfers.

Lacks maintemance
Suffered from recent heavy rainfall, but more needed to be done to make the course more playable. The benefit has been that previously bone dry lakes are been filled again. However many of the lakes seriously need dredging and generally tidying up. The wildlife have deserted some of them. The whole course needs more attention. Shame, because there's no doubt that this is a good golf course layout with wonderful mountain scenery and wildlife. Have always enjoyed it in the past but at present it is not a pleasurable experience. Even the carts seem rundown and grubby. Maybe that's why you can get a good deal here. Nice greeting from the gentleman on reception.
Wet from storms, very green & beautiful
As expected, course is really really wet right now. It had rained that am, so we played cart-path only, a little cold, a little breezy, but otherwise glorious weather. Did I mention the course was wet? No roll, mud in many places, but everything is green and beautiful. Play shorter tees as you will get no roll, but a great value right now if you don't mind a little mud on your ball!
What a difference a little rain makes
Most of the lakes r full again! Fairways r in good shape and all green again. Greens roll pretty good just need a good rolling by greens keeper after the rain. Jacob in the golf shop was awesome . Only kinda bad thing was the snack bar lady was caught overcharging for food then shorted your change. ( guess she tips herself with your money!) but the golf course and pro shop was great .
Truly Surprised
With the draught in California and the rumors that this course might close, we decided to give it a try and play 18 holes, we were truly surprised about the course conditions, the course was actually in a pretty good shape. For the price that we paid, pace of play and condition of the course we thought we ended up with a great deal.
?
Course is closing soon! Beautiful canyon views and deer 5 ft. Away. Nice weather. Darn drought!
A shadow of its former self
I played this course regularly through the 80s and it was always in immaculate shape. I loved the course. Occasionally Corey Pavin would be hitting balls on the range. Had a Groupon and decided to try it again. To describe the course now as a 'dump" is an insult to countless other courses built on landfills. Stagnant water hazards no better than a third full. Other hazards completely dried up. Greens were soft but very green making them the highlight of the round. Asked one employee: "what happened?". He just shrugged and said there was a new owner and they haven't seen him in seven months. That must have been the last time the fairways were watered. The prior reviewer was correct...old signs (many are missing) and hole 11 really is labeled as hole 13.
It is not the drought that has killed a perfectly nice course. It is neglect. Los Robles is immaculate and I doubt the drought is less severe less than ten miles away! I have a strong suspicion the new owner has a plan to build houses and just wants the place to be dumpy enough that the environmentalists are grateful to have someone take care of the place.
Not sure who the reviewer is that posted the 7/17/16 review but it is hard to believe it is a legitimate review especially as the reviewer only uses initials and then rates it as 5 stars. That review needs to be investigated.
I took this course off the rotation and we should all mourn the loss of what was once a gem of a public course.
Camarillo Springs
Played the Blues (6386/70.8/128) through Groupon. POP was awesome, Starting @ 545 am and playing as a single, I was finished with 36 shortly after 10 am. The weather was clear and in the 70's with little breeze. The layout has less teeth than it used to because of the drought. Several previously large lakes are now completely dry. Left of holes 4 & 5 are now viable bail out areas with OB on the right, where they used to be thread the needle, tight driving holes. I made birdie from the lake bed on #4 because you can easily play from there now. The Kikuyu tees are semi lush with most divots already maintained. A few are crowned and could use leveling. The Kikuyu fairways are mowed closed and are firm, which produced some big drives. Usually thin, occasionally lush. The Kikuyu rough is thin but has decent coverage close to the fairways and is mowed close. The farther you get away from the fairways, more hardpan than thin. The sand traps were very nicely maintained. Average sand quality, a little thinner than I would prefer around the greens, nice and hardpacked on the fairway bunkers. The greens were excellent. Medium fast, held approach shots well and fairly smooth for poa annua. The customer service was excellent, quick efficient check in with each round. Burger combo was very good in the onsite restaurant. No GPS on the carts and no cart person or Marshall out on the course. Fairly flat course, moderate difficulty to walk. Decent layout and a solid mid course level alternative for the VC area. Recommended = yes.
Needs work
Its been a while since I've played this course because it was never kept up very well. Here I am 2 years later and the course is still in bad condition. Fairways and greens need a lot of work. I understand water conservation but there's plenty of other courses in the area with better upkeep.
Cam Springs
Overall the course was in good condition. There were a couple of spots that were dried out on the fairways and also a couple of spots in the Fairways that were very wet. The greens are in decent shape and running very slow.
Course is missing a supervision.
It will not take long for you to discover the poor condition of this facility. Just try to find a decent mat on the driving range. Two golf carts failed on the first four holes. Speed of play was very slow. If there was a marshall, he could not be found on the course. Give yourself 5 to 6 hours to play 18.
Rough shape
Tee boxes need work. A bunch of uneven lies and the boxes weren't mown especially on the par 3's, it was like playing from the rough. Speaking of the rough, half of it was brown and dead. I understand the drought but other courses in the county have green rough. Greens are rock hard, hard to get spin. Glad I spent less than $20 on the round. The regular rates being asked aren't worth it.
Camarillo
The course was somewhat challenging though more Par 3's then I expected. There were singles playing double balls that slowed down the play which wasn't monitored. I would have expected the price to be a little less given other courses I have played. Other than this, it was enjoyable. The staff especially were very pleasant and friendly.
Solid
Cam Springs is back to the way I remember it when I was growing up, greens were pure. Fairways are coming back nice. Played in 4 hrs.
This course was in decent condition
Very fun day. Went with a friend and was paired with two other people. They were fun to play with. Nice to have s day off here.
Disappointed
After checking in with an unfriendly pro shop, we found the course to be in average to poor shape. The tees and greens were in pretty good shape but the fairways were average and the rough had a lot of dirt areas along with the bunkers that were like concrete.
We don't think we'll be going back there.
Very solid local course
Good course in a beautiful setting. Greens are in good shape as we approach the summer.
Interesting hole layouts.
Fun and fair
Fun course for a quick round. Starter let us off on #12 to avoid the crowd which was nice. Greens were healthy and fair. Tee boxes sub par. Fairways good sand average. Older course exposed to challenging wind.
food service and course
The food service attendant did not wash hands between working the bar and performing other duties.
There are several bottles if condiments that that appear to be very old and dry.
Not sure if the local Health Department has paid this eating place a visit.
Poor management of the course allows golfers to cut in resulting in slow play. Poor turf, grounds and uneven greens, and empty bunkers.
