About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Great value!
Sterling Hills has come a long way from the days they had terrible customer service and significant water drainage issues. The greens have always been well maintained. The staff are now very friendly and customer oriented. We encountered no issues with fairways closed due to water drainage issues, even after fairly recent significant rainfall. Pace of play was decent for a Friday. With the Golf Pass membership discounts, we got a bargain on the green fees.

SLOW round
I've played this course dozens of times and this was the SLOWEST I've ever seen it. 3 hrs and 40 minutes to play 13 holes (at which point it was too dark to continue). Only other minor issue was the beverage person was missing in action despite being on the course. We saw her once and she flew right by us (after asking the cart in front of us if we were OK). Saw her after the "round" in the bar area, so she was definitely around the entire time. Doing what, I'm not sure. But, back to the pace of play.... We should have come close to finishing. No idea why so slow? No ranger in sight all day.

I like Sterling Hills very much.
The course was well maintained starters are organized and had everything going off on time .
Pace of play is dependent on who winds up in front of you but generally moves round went 4:45 minutes so not terrible but could be better .
The staff is very friendly , the grill seems to suffer in service when ever they have a wedding scheduled but otherwise they do a good job . They can do better on answering the phone before the turn .
I would recommend this course for golfers that have mid handicap or better . Not a course I would bring a novice golfer to . Cheers
Greatest staff
So, I have been playing here for years. The course is in excellent shape. We had lots of early rain and the drainage is generally good but more importantly the maintenance is superb!
The staff is so much fun here. Great personalities. I especially enjoy Sedric. He is very knowledgable and helpful and easy going! The volunteers are also down to earth guys who love this course and are happy to be there!

Great course, great value
This has turned into my usual course. Its a little bit of a drive, but worth it. We were able to finish an early afternoon round in 4 hours and 20 minutes. As usual, the course was in good shape. The only issue was someone with metal cleats was playing in front of us and seemed to have an issue picking up their feet while walking on the greens. Outside of that, everything was great.
Clubhouse nonexistent
Would be a great course overall if they would stop with the weddings and convert that area into a clubhouse this course a hamburger shack for a clubhouse

First time playing at sterling. Great staff and cart girls.
They even include a good ticket. Great value for the round. Would come back to play again!
