Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

The golf ambassador did nothing to prevent slow play. The Good Time Friday group took over 5 hours to play….He said I hope you don’t have plans for dinner and there was an open hole in front of these groups. I quit after 13 holes of painful slow play…

Sterling Hills Purity

Currently a top 5 public golf course in Ventura County, in my personal opinion. Rustic, Olivas, Sterling, Los Robles, Westlake. I base my opinion off how the greens are rolling, and the condition from fairway-fringe-green. Tee boxes come & go depending on the day and volume of players.

Very good track

The course has good bones. Its a shame that there is not enough capital to really make it beautiful. Only critism is the sand in traps.......too much on the slopes and not enough on the flat part. The maintenance crew must be more aware of that.

Return to sterling hills

It has been a couple years since I last played here but it was better than I remembered. I got a noon hot deal on GolfNow so only paid $34 for today’s round. Green had been punched a couple weeks ago so rolling really nicely. Fairways and tee boxes were in great condition. High of 70 degrees today. Perfect day for golf.
