About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Friday Golf
Course was in good shape and a great value if you can get a hot deal. Pace of play on the front side was pathetic. Cart girl called the Marshal for us at the 6th when our patience had hit a new low.
Good day!
The course is overall good. Biggest problem is always with other players hitting balls into people. The only time I’m not moving forward is when someone else in front of me isn’t moving. I wish they’d regulate that better.

Pleasant day at the course
The staff was very friendly and the round included a small bucket and meal. Pretty good value especially for a last minute booking.

Nice Course, Undergoing Changes
We've played this course many times and it's great. Greens are fantastic but fairways are undergoing some changes (maybe due to excessive rains earlier in the year), but big chunks we're devoid of the usual smooth green fairways. Also, the prices have increased significantly as it cost $98 for a course we used to pay about $36 including cart (separate charge for carts nowadays to the tune of $17 per rider (perhaps due to brand new carts which are very nice). All in all, though, this course is very nice and has always been one of our favorites!

Pay full price with perks
We saved about $5 with golf pass but the better deal is direct with the course which includes a bucket of balls and a sandwich at the clubhouse. The course was beautiful with wide fairways and nice elevation changes. I was impressed with the rudeness of the staff when checking in but maybe it was only one guy having a bad day. The starter and the rest of the staff were great. Thumbs up.

Slow play
5 1/2 hours is ridiculous for this course. No marshals doing anything about it. Can't wait for Buenaventura to reopen. We'll cancel Sterling next week and try Los Robles.

I’ve always like Sterling it’s a well maintained course with some challenging fairways very fun place to play or very frustrating to play an loose balls 😂

OK course, overpriced
The course was well maintained except for the lack of sand in the bunkers. The staff was friendly. The snack bar is nominally priced with a beverage cart circulating around the course. I thought the greens fee was high for the course comparing it to other courses in the area.
