About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Good value
The course is good and getting a lunch token is a plus. Pace of play is good. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Too many drying spots in the field of play. The fairways were full of leaves making it difficult to find the balls.
Not a good experience. Nobody told me that greens where just punched. Drinking water tastes pretty bad.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused during your visit. Sterling Hills
I have nothing bad to say about this course and clubhouse...the course is great and the help is always nice...the only GLARING issue here is the new putting green. It's pathetic and I guess it means that the weddings are more important than the golf. The green is so sloped and usually in poor condition...not worth putting on it. Gotta be a better way.

They had some very slow players ahead of us. We couldn't finish our round. Not a good day on the course! It's usually very pleasant!

Randy the Starter
Great greens and pace of play. Variation of tee boxes is fun. But my god - If Randy isn't the worst starter I've ever encountered, I dont know if there is another person who could top him. He's the type of guy who's pleased to tell you bad news. Condescending jerk and I only spoke to him for less than a minute...what could I have possibly done in that short amount of time? Apparently nothing, because we asked around the other employees and they said that's not even the worst of him. He was upset we had a "Hot Deal" and decided to treat us like junk since we opted for a deal at the course. Not sure if Im very much enthused to go back to this course in the short term.

Can't play 5.5 hour round
As we Teed off at 10:00am the starter had indicated that the pace is already 35 min behind !
We Tee'd off on time and with in 20 min we're on the next hole having to wait for the group in front .
After they cleared to approach the hole we Teed off and we were off to the fairway . As setting up for our second shot with no one behind us course workers approached us to tell us we needed to pick up the Pace !!
Infuriating that you are telling us this when you can't manage your over booking !
Now feeling rushed it changes the whole experience
Long and short after waiting on every Tee box and fairway walked off after 13 holes at 4:45 min .
Love the course but I feel like I got taken , and after letting the pro shop in on the experience there was really no compensation or consideration other than thanking me for bringing this to his attention.
Love the course but can't spend good money on a bad experience

5 hours 5 minutes for this course is ridiculous. Two groups most T boxes.

very improved course
The new owners have done a lot to improve this course. For me, what is great is that they have added women's tee boxes that allow for easier play and improved the pace of play. If you want a more challenging day, there are other tee boxes to pick from - 8 options in all!

Improvements
I understand the course irrigation system is now being monitored by computer.
Great idea and I am glad to to see this improvement to the course not only will it conserve the water consumption but make the entire course very playable, The new carts are also great!
