About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

weather is weather this is so ca in oct it was not hot or cold, maybe a touch barelly cool touch of brezze not a problem.

Its coming back
After several years of decline the course is coming back its in pretty good shape now. Not sure if the pandemic driven uptick in rounds or the new development plan they are trying to get approved but either way they are making improvements to course and clubhouse and watering the course too.. They always have deals bundling food/beverages with the round. The staff are all very nice people. The selection of beer is awful and the carts need refreshed. Those are the only negatives for me.

Old carts and lots of wet spots
The carts are old and worn out. The seats have large holes in them , My cart the parking brake wouldn't work
The course had a lot of really wet spots, my shoes were covered in mud after the round. I think there is a broken water line on #12 tee box, the sod was more like a swap

Course is great shape
I love the capital improvements. Outside sitting area is expanded and will enjoy sitting out there in the future too.

Rolling hills with great views
My foursome all enjoyed the course. Nice practice green and driving range. Did not see a practice chipping area is only negative.

management is working hard to make the course nicer, but overall a very nice course, greens are great.

Bad experience
Checked in so we thought. Driving range was closed for repairs. Get to the first tee and the starter tells us we need to check in. Asked him how do you think we got a key for the cart? Played as a threesome but as most public courses go, we were stuck behind a foursome that had no clue about golf etiquette. No one in front of them for many holes and would not allow us to play through. Called the pro shop about having a Marshall come but no Marshall’s at this course. No cart person. We stopped at the turn to purchase food and drinks but had to search for someone to take our order. Course conditions were not any better than the service. Fairways were a mix of every type of grass known to man with little rough or bare ground. Traps were basically mud pits. Tee areas were ok although some were not level. Greens had numerous divots. Not worth the money. Poor service and conditions.

Golf carts
Everything was fine except golf cart. 1) the brake would not work properly 2) front window bracket was missing a bolt - on both carts
