About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Sterling Hills
A bit pompous for what's basically a municipal course that's set in a housing area. $70 for greens fees keeps the hackers away but I feel like this is a $40 course tops. Lots of dead non-watered areas just off the fairway, and even some on the fairway. The sand traps are a clay dirt material. The greens are pretty well kept, and run true with lots of break. Course knowledge will help a ton cause there's a lot of movement. The layout is great, short part 4s, water past 3s, and some risk and reward play. But...I played this course for $5. So... even though I know it's an average course that's why I chose to play it over the plenty better choices I could've.

Pro shop guy
This guy was the most unprofessional and rude person I have seen in the golf courses. We brought our girls as expectadors as we always do, and he was very grumpy about having them with us. And we usually get food and drinks but he only gave us drinks so we asked about the food and he just didn’t give us any answer just said no food. His attitude made that day experience the worst among all of the other golf courses we have been. Don’t think we will be back here. You guys have to train better your employees!!! We are paying to play and we respect the same respect.

Great course; Great value
Sterling Hills is becoming one of my favorite courses in my area. The course is always in good to very good condition. Pace of play is typically very good. For the most part, the staff in the snack shop/bar are great. In particular, the on course staff (course Marshals) are always very helpful and super friendly.
During check in for our round on 5/16/21, the gentleman at the starter window was fairly rude to our group. Since that wasn't our normal experience, I just chalk it up to a him having "bad day".
All in all, I love the course and will continue to play when I can.

Nice course for the money. I am 70 years old and it fits me fine. My only complaint was the waiting-not acceptable. I took us an hour to play the 10th and 11th holes!!!!! I proceeded to leave the course. So you judge for yourself, The staff was great and to the person who found my wallet. Thank you

Solid course, enjoyed my round
Fun course. Nothing crazy design wise but still a good time. Greens were in good shape and challenging. Great value if you are in the area

Nice course
This is a nice course. However there seemed to be some issues with sewage leaks on several of the holes, so there were quite a few areas with smelly wetness and puddles. The practice cannot accommodate many people.
