Pleasant Valley Golf Club
About
Pleasant Valley Golf Club sits just south of Dulles airport, but the expansive layout, which is absent of homes, feels much more secluded. The parkland layout tumbles across a diverse landscape of rolling hills and grassy meadows covered with hardwood forests. There is plenty of diversity throughout the golf course with some holes that are bunker-less contrasting with the links holes that have Scottish-style bunkers. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 fifth. After an uphill tee shot with a bunker on the right and a waste area on the left the second shot presents multiple choices. To the left you could take a risk with trees and a bunker but you could possibly be rewarded with a better angle for the third shot while the right side option will require a third shot over a large bunker to reach the green.

Decent layout, good greens, bit overpriced
No frills track that is mostly right in front of you and scorable. Main issue is the tee boxes are dreadful. Most are uneven with shaggy grass if you can find any among the sand holes. I suspect most players here are ‘members’ or get some county discount to make it more affordable, because for $88 on the weekend there are definitely better tracks nearby. Layout is decent mix of shot making and length and greens rolled nicely even for all the recent rain.
Great Course but THE ROUGH
First time playing and I really like the course and will be back. All the rain in the recent weeks has made the rough extremely penal. Stay in the short grass. Apparently the traps are getting new sand but they seem to be in that condition - piles of sand in the trap - for some time. Ought to get fixed, or is that rain-related?
Didn't quite meet expectations
Pleasant Valley is usually one of the better public courses in the Northern Virginia area. However, for our round on Saturday, 6/9, it did not meet expectations. To be fair, we've have a ton of rain in the NoVA area and I am sure that negatively impacted course conditions. The rough was extremely long and hadn't been cut and made finding balls tough. Greens were not in good condition. All sand traps had large mounds of new sand. Given we're well into the season, we all expected to be playing a better course. Even with a hotdeal of $71 for the round, the course just wasn't worth it this time around.
Beware of the Rough
Course was in great shape when I played. The rough is thick, which makes the course a good challenge. Try to keep it in the fairways as much as possible...still shot a 91!
Thank you for the review!
Hoping for more fairways in your future!

course conditions suboptimal
This course suits my game well but the recent weather has taken a big toll - rough around the fairways was only mown on a few holes, making it near impossible to find balls on a cloudy day. The worst was the sand bunkers though - many had high piles of sand in them that had not yet been spread out. Those without the piles had been washed out so completely there were rocks. Fairways and greens were in great shape though.
Thank you for your review and feedback! You are certainly correct that the rains in May and early June have made the rough very tough to keep up with. We are doing our best to get as many areas mowed as frequently as possible. As for the bunkers, the new sand will be smoothed out within the next week or so dependent upon the weather.

Bumpy cart path
Fairway and green are kept fine, but the cart path should have been paved to avoid a bumpy run.
Thank you for the feedback and review! We do have many spots on the cart path that need repair and it is on our list. We need some dry days so the puddles go away and we will be filling those holes.

Doesn’t worth the money
The fairway the bunkers and the carts are in poor conditions . No ball washers at any hole through out the course . I believe they charge too much loft spoor management.
We appreciate your review and feedback from your most recent round. We are sorry that you didn't find conditions up to standards. We are in the middle of a full bunker renovation as I'm sure you saw with about 6 holes done. In a few weeks, the bunkers will be back to perfect as well as the rest of the course.
Good course
Interesting layout. Course was in good condition for early Spring. A little bit of everything. Some short but interesting par 4's, split fairways and water hazards made for a fun day. Challenging, but not to the point of being overly difficult.
Pleasant Valley Golf Course - Nice!
The golf course has an excellent layout, nice greens - great competitive atmosphere.
A cold windy March day
Windy and about 45 degrees so felt even colder but was dressed for the temp. Course was much drier than it was the Norester we had over weekend dried it pretty well. Over all was a good day not anyone to slow play down and the staff was just excellent! Mike checked us in and told us what to expect for conditions, played 90 degree rule so play was fast. THe wind made shots a challenge but hey, anyone can play golf on a perfect day..... will be back
I will replay this course at first chance
Greens rolled and still early in the season but the lay out offers any skill level plenty a challenge. I played the blue and really liked the layout. No houses around the course which is nice.
Great shape for Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley was in good shape for a late season play. I feel we stole one from the weatherman (temps in low 70s, clear blue sky and a little windy) for the end of November. Course was in good shape and play moved along a good pace (4:15). Good experience overall. We will be back.
Excellent Course for the Money
This has become one of my favorite courses in Northern Virginia. It was in great condition, especially for November. Greens were fast, but fair, and the staff were great.
Good course fast greens
I really like Pleasant Valley. I have played it a few times and always find it in good shape with fast greens. Highly recommend!
Great course for the price
Played on a beautiful October Saturday and could not have been more pleased with the course. The worst part of fall golf is all the leaves on the ground, hiding balls even on good shots. The leaf presence was minimal and never a factor. The tee boxes, a compliant of previous reviews, were much improved. Greens had a few bare spots and the sand traps were a bit hard, but that's really nitpicking. If I had to find a flaw it would be the number of blind tee shots on the course. Will play again and include in my course rotation.

Thank you for your feedback and review and we apologize for not meeting expectations. The rain has drastically impacted our course conditions this spring! The sand traps will be smoothed out within the next week or so as we need the rough to dry out so that we can get equipment out on the course. Hopefully later in the season you'll find conditions back up to par.
