Pleasant Valley Golf Club
About
Pleasant Valley Golf Club sits just south of Dulles airport, but the expansive layout, which is absent of homes, feels much more secluded. The parkland layout tumbles across a diverse landscape of rolling hills and grassy meadows covered with hardwood forests. There is plenty of diversity throughout the golf course with some holes that are bunker-less contrasting with the links holes that have Scottish-style bunkers. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 fifth. After an uphill tee shot with a bunker on the right and a waste area on the left the second shot presents multiple choices. To the left you could take a risk with trees and a bunker but you could possibly be rewarded with a better angle for the third shot while the right side option will require a third shot over a large bunker to reach the green.

Great Course - Just not worth the price
Love the course but the fact that it's $120 for a weekday afternoon or $100 to play at 4:00 when the sun goes down at six is absolutely insane. Twin Lakes or Herndon Centennial are much better values and still pretty good golf.
Cart-path + tall rough - very frustrating
I played a round at the golf course last Saturday (10/05/2024), and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. As a golfer who typically scores between 84-88 and prefers to finish rounds within 4:30 hours, my experience was quite frustrating, especially since it took over 5 hours to complete the round.
Course Conditions
The course was wet and had a "cart-path only" policy, which is understandable given the conditions. However, the rough was exceptionally tall, making it extremely difficult to locate balls—even in well-maintained areas near the greens. If your ball lands even a few yards off the fairway, retrieving it can require multiple clubs and several minutes of searching. I lost five ProV1s during my round, while I usually only lose one or two balls per outing. If you happen to find a ProV1 with a blue line, consider yourself lucky!
Enforcement of Rules
Despite the cart-path only rule, I noticed many golfers disregarding it to search for their balls in the rough. This lack of adherence to the rules was frustrating, especially since I saw course marshals multiple times. The muddy areas created by cart wheels will likely remain unplayable for weeks.
Greens Quality
On a positive note, the greens were among the best I've encountered in the region. They rolled true and were quite fast, making them enjoyable to putt on. If you're looking to test your skills on fast greens, this course might be worth considering.
Overall, while the greens were impressive, the challenging rough and the cart-path rules contributed to an experience that was less than enjoyable. Given these conditions and the extended playtime of over 5 hours, I don’t foresee returning to this course anytime soon.
Nice layout.
Course is in very good shape, from tee to green. Numerous sand traps keep it interesting.
Hole in One
#14 is only 110 from white. It is your best chance to score a hole in one.
Good value
The course was in good shape, the Greens were in great shape. Staff friendliness still a challenge. There was so Marshall on the course to enforce the pace of play.
Great layout; decent shape
Always love playing this course as layout is fantastic with great variety of holes.
Some fairways had burned out spots but so much better than a couple years ago. Look forward to playing here more often as the conditions improve. .
Pleasant Vkue
Greens and fairways in pretty good shape. Rough was not however. Many weeds and grass was sparse .
Layout was very good; challenging which explains the higher slope rating than what most would expect of a public course.
Not a comfortable place to play
I have never been to a course where I felt so rushed. We finished the first 9 under 2 hours and finished all 18 in just under 4 hours but yet the marshals followed us on several holes. It is very frustrating and not pleasant to be followed like that. It messes up your game and makes it very unenjoyable. I will not be playing at this course anymore.
Solid track, good conditions, bunkers could be better.
Aeration happened a few days ago so the greens are a bit bumpy but they roll well and i'm looking forward to my next round. A few tee boxes were a bit rough & most bunkers were concrete sand, but otherwise the course was in great shape.
Lovely course
My favorite early morning weekday walk. Challenging course, with an interesting layout. Pace can get slow at times but feel like that's everywhere nowadays
Bunkers could use a little work right now. and would love to get some water jugs put out on a few holes
As someone who primarily walks it would be nice to not pay the full price that includes a cart fee but that's not an option.
Bunkers
The greens had just been punched & top dressed the day before but they were still playable enough considering. What wasn’t acceptable were the sand traps all around the course. Looked like they hadn’t been deep raked for months & were hard as cement. Some bunkers didn’t even have a rake in them.
