The Gauntlet Golf Club
About
The Gauntlet is situated along the banks of the lake that is the centerpiece of Curtis Memorial Park. When it first opened in 1995, Golf Digest recognized it as one of the "top ten new courses to play in the U.S." This challenging layout will definitely test your shot making abilities. The golf course begins with a tough front nine that has several sharp doglegs over water and tall grasses. There are also a slew of blind shots. The back nine is a bit gentler since there's less water and it is more open and forgiving, but the large, multi-tiered greens can be tricky. The fourth hole is the golf course's signature. Your tee shot will have to carry a marsh to a narrow landing area on this par 5. After that, you'll be faced with a triple-tiered green with the lake to the left and bunkers to the right.

Great condition 4****
Course overall in great condition, very scenic, alot of bind shots, definitely very challenging. A fantastic price thru Golf Now. Looking forward to playing this course again. A MUST PLAY!!!!!!!
interesting layout
Nice for a muni track, a lot of neat holes, each is unique.
A great day
Very fun course with good variation of challenges. I was surprised at some of the height changes on several holes. Despite the lack of rain, the fairways and greens were in good shape for this time of year and the course played very well. I'll definitely play it again.
Great Bargain If you Catch the Hot Deals
This is a nice golf course. The fairways were lush, and despite recent aeration, the greens rolled well. The front nine is a bit more challenging than the back and require precision shots as their is not a lot of room as trees and water surround. I always enjoy playing here and think it would be worth a visit if you've never played here.
1st time playing Guantlet
Course in very good condition except tee boxes were a little rough. (Nice fairways made up for that). Some unique and challenging holes. . .that I would play differently next time. Lots of trouble if you don't stay on the short stuff. My only complaint is the lack of additional yardage markers.
Nice, wooded course
First time playing. This is a nice course located in a park. Lots of tree lined fairways.
Accuracy is a MUST
Fun course. It's challenging, but not so challenging it isn't fun. Very tight with a lot of bunkers protecting the greens and sides of the fairway. Definitely need to get your tee time on golf now. I paid $20 to ride 18. Make sure to get a course book from the pro shop or bring a GPS with you. I would definitely play the course again, but I don't think I would pay their normal prices.
this course has unique holes
play was slow because league was playing - probably started t-times too early - great course - enjoyed the array of shots - you will all the clubs in your bag - every hole unique - greens tough from aeration but fair.
This course is not that good
This course has horrible greens , terrible range balls , absurd onjulation with too many blind shots and was no fun to play.
Great Challenge
First time on the Gauntlet and enjoyed the round. Course is fairly challenging with a lot of doglegs and blind shots. Fairways were in excellent shape and you never had a bad lie. The biggest problem is that they were having some sort of event with the State Park that day and they closed the driving range and made some sort of "goofy golf" course on the putting green so you could not use either one to warm up. Got no real problem with this, but when I called to make my tee time the person at the golf shop didn't say anything about it. Would have really been nice to know the driving range and putting green were closed today. Come on Gauntlet, let folks know what is going on when they call for a tee time if the course is not full up!!!!!
Knucklehead News - Bad Experience
Took advantage of a Golf Now offer because I had business to conduct just a few miles from this course. Finished the job early so I went right to the course arriving 1 hour and 20 minutes before my tee time. When I presented my Golf Now coupon to the desk clerk, he seemed to scowl at me in contempt, like I was stealing money out of his pocket due to the discount. There was no Starter; no one on the first tee box; and no other people signing in; and since I was a single, I suggested that I get off while the place was empty at the time. That is what a thinking person would do, but this not-so-friendly guy said, in his own words, that since I had "one of those special times, that I would have to wait". That sounded ridiculous to me, so I did some warming up and some putting. After about 20 minutes, a single person finally showed up on the first tee box, while I was still waiting. One of the staff members who was attending the carts couldn't help observing me, and he asked if he could assist. I explained that situation, and he went inside to ask if I could play, but was told in no uncertain terms that I had to wait. After another 20 minutes passed, another single played. After yet another 20 minutes, I was there for 1 hour and a grand total of two people played before me, but I still had to wait. By that time, two foursomes were just arriving, and I was done waiting, so I went in front of them after obtaining their approval to do so. By the time I teed off, I was really teed off, and it ruined the round for me. I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.
Enjoy playing of course..
But this time out, the greens have just been aerated. I wish golf courses would post on their websites when the courses were under repair!
The Gaulet is in prefect shape
Outstanding all around fairways , greens overall conditions prefect
Relaxing and enjoyable
I have played this course many times. It is never busy and I have never felt rushed. The course is great and well kept. The staff is courteous and makes you feel welcome. Food is always good and priced fair. Wish I could play every day.
Speed of Play was great
Overall, a good experience. Greens wouldn't hold shots and balls landing on greens easily rolled off. Bunkers too hard packed....mostly dirt rather than sand.
Challenging
This is definitely a shotmakers course, so be ready for that. A very interesting layout that will test you, especially your first time around. A short opening dogleg left hole leads to holes 2,4 and 5 that will require your most accurate shots. And so it goes from there.
Course conditions were very good tee to green. Fairways and greens were excellent (with the exception of #17 green), but avoid the rough which was heavy.
Overall I really like this track, so get out a give it a try - I think you'll enjoy it!
Best condition ever
I've been playing here since the course opened in 95. It is in the best condition I have seen. Plush fairways, greens that roll smooth and true and refreshed bunkers.
You have to think your way around - sometimes a 3 wood or 3 hybrid is the best weapon off the tee.
It's a must play in Stafford/Fredericksburg.
Another Gauntlet Review
Overall an excellent value! Two different nines - I preferred the back nine (excellent) This is a very good test of golf especially front nine - tight. Driving range balls were worn out; staff very accomating and friendly. A very good course for the money. Want to play it again sometimes.
Nice course
Course is in very good condition. Best fairways in the area. Greens roll nice.
I do apologize for any inconvience to your round, we did have a very special day in partnership with Stafford County Parks & Recreation where we were able to introduce the game of golf to more than 500 kids. Having said that, I make no excuses for our lack of communications to you prior to your round. Please except my apologies and I hope you will visit us again sometime.
