Got this round on golf now. Front nine has a couple holes that run side by side while back nine holes are separate. Greens were in good shape and fairways are Bermuda so the ball sits relatively nice.

Actually, I amend my previous response now that I know who you are. To those reading this review, these "Gentlemen" arrived an hour early for twilight and wanted to tee off early, which we could not do. When ready to play, they had two coolers of alcoholic beverages which, according to Virginia State Law, is prohibited on golf courses who have ABC licenses. When advised, they begrudgingly returned to their vehicles where the proceeded to pack their golf bags with said alcoholic beverages. I advised again they could not bring their stash onto the course. I will not print their response. When asked for a refund, it was denied.

Very childish to write a false review and we respectfully request Golf Now to remove this review from our course.

Any questions, please contact me, 540-547-7274.

To other golf now participating courses, beware if this group books with your facility.

I have to admit you must have your courses confused. Rapidan Golf Club in NO WAY can be considered in horrible shape. If you did in fact play here, please contact me, Matt Callaghan at 540-547-7274 so we can discuss your play and your expectations. Would like to know what time you played as you did not book through Golf Now.

Rapidan Golf Club is committed to the highest standard of customer service and providing a product everyone can enjoy. Again, please contact us to discuss.

Great time

I had a great time playing here with my dad. Through golf now it was only 20$ each. The best part about this course was that there was only a couple of people out there, so we were really able to relax and enjoy the course. Beautiful weather and the staff was really cool.

A different experience

Compared to the many other courses in Virginia, this one has distinctive characteristics all its own. The elevation changes were amazing and the dog legs often resulted in blind tee shots. The fairway grass was uniform and the huge greens were consistently smooth and putt-able. As other reviews mentioned the tee boxes were hard and scarce of grass which made tee shots especially on the par 3s a challenge. One minor suggestion is to have arrows painted in the cart paths leading to the next tee( Meadow Farms uses this technique) Overall a nice change of pace and worth the drive from Gainesville.

Not an easy course; but worth the drive from DC

Loved playing this course; got to use every club in my bag. Tee boxes are very hard; almost impossible to get tees into the ground on most holes. Many, many obstacles to hit over and around; and lots of blind shots. Multiple elevation changes within most holes between tee box to fairway to green. As a result, you get to lay up a lot; probably won't use your driver more than 3 or 4 times in the round otherwise you won't be able to see where your ball lands. Greens played very fast. You have to strategize your play of most every hole. Very scenic. Will definitely add it to my summer rotation of courses and go back next year.

Was good to return hadn't been there since it re-opened from when it was Somerset. Better Hit the Ball Straight and good. The Fairways was Excellent the Tees were in a little bad shape but no big deal. The Greens were in GREAT Shape. I will be back Love this course. 2 different nines front nine is kind of like a Links course the back winds through Houses and woods. Challenging as it always was but Nice and Fun to Play. Thanks Golf Now and Rapidan Golf Club.

Short but challening!

Cost to play a Saturday morning as a walk-on can only be described and a "great deal". Worth the drive down from NoVA.

Overall this course is clearly a shorty, but don't let that dissuade you from playing here. This course provides more than enough challenge via smaller yet receptive greens, elevation changes and several interesting water/creek holes. There are also eco zones to avoid for the less than accurate hitters.

As previously mentioned by others, the tees are hard (I use plastic tees so it wasn't a real issue), and still the fairways are near perfect condition for a public course. The greens were also near perfect, moist and receptive and they rolled true. Club selection is critical for first time players off the tees on some holes, so read all the reviews and take the advice, a 3 or 5 wood could save you a few strokes.

My only real complaint would be the bunkers (especially on the front 9). There was not a pretty or well maintained bunker that I saw, though I was able to play from the rear green side trap on 11 (it was not ideal). This is really a minor criticism and if the traps are avoided, is a non-issue.

GolfBuddy reads the course backwards (front 9 as back and back 9 as front), management should inquire about this or maybe I just need to update my software??

Memorable holes: #3, #8, #9, #12, #13, #14, and #18.

The staff was amazingly friendly and informative to this first time visitor/player and I am thankful for their kindness.

This is a fun short course filled with ample challenge and the potential to be even greater with a touch on lengthening.

Worth exploring and scoring, especially for the price!!!

Nice course

Played for first time today, was very surprised a nice public course in good shape. The greens were very hard and considering all the rain I thought they would be softer but in good shape but a little slow. The pace was very slow due to the group ahead but that happens at all courses, I skipped #9 and then I flew around the course. Great value, I will play it again. Staff very friendly. The only negative were the bunkers which were hard if they weren't cover with water

Fun course

It's been several years since I last played the course back when it was named Somerset. Course has nice variety of holes. Greens were in excellent shape and are quite small on the front nine but are larger on the back nine. Staff was very friendly.

In great shape

The course is in great shape - green are wonderful. It's a course where you are rewarded for keeping the ball in the fairway. Not always easy as some fairways are quite narrow.

Hole #8 needs some improvement. Moving the green 50 yards closer and making it a par 4 would be my suggestion.

It's a very nice place for a fun round.

Tough Course not recommended for beginners.

Fairways were hard and ran long. This provided some unexpected problems on a few holes with doglegs. Tee boxes were difficult to find at times. Bigger tee markers would help. Secondary rough was extremely treacherous. Some thinning out would be a good idea. Greens were very good. The only complaint is that many sloped to the back and often had danger behind the green. However, when not badly sloped, they held the ball very well. Although I don't like blind holes, this course has great potential.
--Tee Boxes were rock hard
-- Fairways were good and very fast.
-- Greens putted true and were in excellent condition.

Great back nine

First time on this course and first time out this year. I played from the white tees. Tees and greens were in great shape. Enjoyed the back nine. It challenges you to play smart with the multiple hazards in the fairways. The only downside of the course are the dangers of blind shots off the tee. I hit into the group in front of me on #12. Need some way to notify players of the all clear. Will definitely play this course again. Cheeseburger was awesome too.

Best Value in the Fredericksburg Area

I try to rotate my rounds of golf between all of the courses in the area and I find that Rapidan is the best value. Between using my VSGA card and GolfNow, I have never paid more than $25 for a round.

The course can be punishing if you are not accurate off the tee but it still remains a fun challenge. This course is an excellent course for someone who is new to the game.

Holes #8 and #9 are the two holes that I find the hardest to play on the course.

Great course which can only get better.

I read the other reviews and after playing, can only wonder what their expectations were. The course was in good shape and the greens were even better than that. The course is a challenge but has a very good layout. The staff are friendly and the amenities are very good. I drove over 1.5 hours to play the course and I will do it again, especially for the price. A nice course, with nice staff, nice conditions at a nice price. What more could you want or expect.
