Great Course
This was my fist time playing here and just wanted to say my brother and I had a great time. The course is challenging even though it's not to long. Hole 9 is crazy tough. my brother and I spoke with one of the workers after our round and he was more than happy to talk with us which doesn't happen at some places. I will differently will be back and can't wait till next time.
Amazing Fun
My brother and I played this course today and we both enjoyed the heck out of it, and can't wait to do it again. What looks like an easy course is just an illusion but that's why it is so great. After reading someone's 1 star review, I can't help but think they didn't even play this course. That person must have played Four Winds and clicked on the wrong site while writing their review. Thank You RGC for a wonderful day, see yall soon!
Not even worth $22.00
This was one of the worst courses I have ever played. The layout is nice but the course conditions are horrible. There is no driving range...the putting green doesn't have holes...the fairways are terrible. ..the tee boxes are no better. There is no pro shop to speak of. If I had to pay the standard rate of $47 I would asked for a refund. Also the course is not clearly marked....no hazard or OB stakes. They offer no yardage book and the score card does not have pictures of the holes....NEVER AGAIN.
I always enjoy golf no matter where I play but....
First thing I noticed, was how hard it was to stick a tee in the ground...felt like the ground was frozen even though it rained the night before. Secondly, the fairways are in pretty rough condition. The putting greens aren't that bad and they seemed pretty well kept. The challenge of the course overall wasn't all that bad but I won't go back. Good luck out there!
lots of potential
Very friendly staff and potentially an awesome course. If the greens are any indication of the future plans then the future is promising. No way to put it gently though the fairways are in rough shape but improvements appear to be ongoing. I will definitely be back to play here again.
Thank you very much for your comments. As soon as the Bermuda grass fairways come out of dormancy, I'm sure you will find they will meet or exceed your expectations.
We look forward to hosting you again.

Too early in the season to fully assess
down in the area for my nieces wedding, my son and I took a chance and brought our clubs along. It turned out to be an absolutely frigid morning, both extra layers courtesy the local Walmart, we had a great breakfast at the clubhouse, and got in nine before hands were completely no. Staff was friendly course was interesting and challenging, but it's too early in the season to assess its overall quality.I did very much enjoy it, and the staffs courtesy and willingness to help us out on a shortage of cold weather equipment really went above and beyond. I would definitely recommend this course to a friend.
Good course friendly atmosphere
I have played here last year and this year. I will say it's nice to go to a course we're everyone is treated fair. Wether it's your 1st time or you have been there for years your treated the same. I wish I knew the gentleman's name at the pro shop because he is great! He makes you feel like a member and very easy to talk to. I would recommend this course to anyone who loves a good round of golf. I will definitely be back many times with friends and family to play. Thank you for a great experience!!
Great day of golf
Temp about 60, overcast and no wind set up a great day of golf with my son. Course was typical dormant fairways but greens and tee boxes very good.
good value
Because of the value this is a very good golf course. Greens are always in good shape and fast. Fairways are a little rough, Staff is very friendly, plays along the river.

Nice Place to Play.
Staff as always very courteous.
Course in relatively good shape, greens need some work. Nice place to play for intermediate golfers.
Friendly staff, but poor course conditions
This course was in very rough shape. Even a low price for a round may be overpriced. Many tee boxes and greens especially were in very bad shape.
As for how the course plays, the front plays fairly short but there are some narrow targets to hit at times and many of the greens are small. The back has a bit more length to it than the front. The staff was very friendly and helpful for someone making their first visit.
Needs some TLC
Course layout is a little tricky as the front 9 holes 5-7 are on tip of each other. Greens have scorched areas from being cut too short and not maintained. Many tee boxes are hardened blocks of dirt patches that require work so golfers do need a hammer to put tee in ground. Fairways not maintained either, not seeded. Seems more like a farm course.
Good Value through Golf Now
This course was a good value when booking through Golf Now. If I had to pay full price there are other courses I would play. It was a nice change of scenery.
Scrap the front nine.
Pro: The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Giving me playing tips for different holes and allowing me to play the back nine first to avoid three foursomes.
Cons: The front nine has a poor layout and is in terrible condition. Seems like they tried stuffing nine holes in an area suited for four. The green on eight is tiny, it can't be more than four yards deep. Like others have stated, the tee boxes are hard and many of them have very little grass. The greens on the front are starting to burn out and the fringe is gone on many holes.
Never too crowded
Great golf course for all skill levels. Short enough to challenge par 5s but long enough to keep things interesting. Staff couldn't be friendlier and the course has a great replay rate if you want to play 36 - which is what we did. I look forward to seeing the improvements this course goes through in the upcoming years. Highly recommended.
Course Needs Some Work
The greens were horrible; lots of bare spots both on the green and on the fringe. The tee boxes were rock hard and were difficult to push a tee into. Other than the 200/150/100 yard poles, there were no other distance markers on the course. Also, there were no stakes for OB or hazards.
The bunkers were good; soft sand and well raked.
Course has a lot of potential after its reopening, but still needs a lot of work to be able to charge average rates.
nice course
the layout is challenging, a lot of waste areas, the tees are very bad, the greens are quick.
Plan on lunch, the food is great
Forced carries galore
I really like to play this course, but it is has na rrow fairways, a lot of long grass and forced carries over swampy type areas. I lost two balls on my way to an 86 from the middle tees. my friend easily lost 15 balls in the woods, long grass, and swamps. Hit the ball in the fairway and you can have a real chance getting your par (I had 8 pars). Hit the ball off line and 7 or 8 is really possible. The absolute hardest hole for me was the 8th. 3 forced carrries on a short par 5 and a tiny green that was flooded this past Spring. The green is still in horrible shape since mud covered it. A few other greens have bad spots and of as today they have not been fixed. If your game is usually around a 100, prepare to loose 6-8 balls or more. I always have a good time here.
More difficult than most
The course and slope ratings are indicative of the challenge of this course. The fairways are in good shape but are quite narrow in places. The greens are smaller than average and a few of them need some work. Between the fairway width, the hills, and the smaller greens, this course offers a unique challenge. It reminds me of playing on some of the courses in a more mountainous region!
A great course which is becoming more.
I am a 23 handicap. I play primarily in MA and NH. I was visiting the area when I found Rapidan on Golfnow. I played a Wednesday morning. The staff was fantastic! Very friendly and helpful with course information. The front 9 was is very pretty and a fair test. The back nine is more challenging. Elevation changes and natural hazards are used to add to the challenge. The forward tees were a good length for me. Overall the course was in good shape. A few areas around the greens were under repair. The course staff was clearly aware and working to fix the issues. I paid 35 for 18 with a cart. A great price. I would play here again.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Well, this is certainly not the type of review we like to see. A few items of clarification are in order. When you checked in, I met with you outside and verbally gave you and your wife the layout of the course and hazards to look out for as this was your first visit to Rapidan. I showed you the aerial map of the course with the hole layouts that is located on every cart. We have yardage stakes on all holes but par threes at 100, 150 and 200 yards..
I also met with you at the turn and again at the completion of your round and discussed your thoughts as we always appreciate honest feedback. None of the issues you state were mentioned. I would have liked to discuss them with you at that time. Many of the items you state above (driving range, putting green, pro shop, yardage books) do not affect course conditions and playability.
Our putting green does not have holes. This keeps the green in better condition yet still we have pin markers on the putting green. It is very easy to tell if your putt was accurate enough to hole out or not.
The fairways at Rapidan are Bremudagrass. This type grass does not green up fully until late May. Our fairways have complete coverage, just not fully greened up as of yet.
Not sure what you are looking for in a pro shop. We carry all the basics any golfer would need for a round of golf. We are a small public course. We do not sell golf club sets, shoes or a wide array of merchandise. It is impossible for any club to carry a full pro shop and compete with online retailers and Dick's Sporting Goods.
I am disappointed that you did not enjoy your round or discuss your thoughts with me that day however I believe this review is a bit harsh. I would be happy to discuss with you should you like, or answer any questions readers of your review may have.
