Golfer Reviews
Total vanilla
Maybe I was spoiled by playing other nice courses the two days prior to Lake Monticello, but I didn't care about this course at all. There was nothing visually or strategically interesting about the layout at all. The greens were all basically completely flat and unreceptive, while the fairway and tees look like the Bermuda that grows in your lawn after not being mowed for a week. The pro shop wouldn't let me hit balls because our tee time was in ten minutes, even though there was a back up on the tee. There's just no reason to play here.
Great Spot To Play
-Lake Monticello Golf Course is located in rural Palmyra, Virginia, just SE of Charlottesville. For the drive it is very worth it. The staff is friendly and helpful. Food options have increased with a menu revamp at the Hole In One Cafe - Good value. -Course conditions were improving on the greens from their aeration weeks ago. They are filling in nicely and provide consistent roll. The 9th hole is DEFINITELY the hardest to make par on but makes for a fine challenge all the same.
-PGA Family Tees are available so everyone in the family can play.
-With new construction on the clubhouse taking place, watch the signs for cart routing around the buildings.
A wonderful course
If you are in the Charlottesville, VA area, you really should play this course! It was in fantastic shape, was challenging, and the staff went out of their way to make you feel at very comfortable.
Great course - must play
This course is in amazing shape after major renovation over the past couple years. The layout has elevation change and water to challenge any level of golfer. Very scenic and at a great rate. A must play when in Central Virginia.
Not the Golf Course it used to be.
I was a member of this Golf Course back in the 80's when it hosted The Virginia State Open. Back then it was one of the finest courses in the State. Now it is a bit of a disappointment as far as course conditions are concerned.
Many of the Tees and Greens are in poor condition and the fairways are not far behind. WHAT A SHAME!
Great value
This course has a decent layout that present challenges, with a good balance of easier holes. The course was in fair condition; however a number of greens were distressed. The staff was minimal during my visit, but the one gentleman was cordial. Decent value.
Great layout. Well maintained.... A very good value.
One of the best values in central va. A beautiful and challenging layout. Great for all skill levels (the blues play tough). Course was in much better condition then I expected. They recently renovated several greens, and they turned out great. I highly recommend giving it a try!
Good course
Good course great condition challenging but has plenty of scoring oppurtunities.
First time in 25 years. Good lay-out as in the past.
Greens were in poor condition. Took away from the nice day, Should come back this fall.
