Courses in great shape
Course is in top condition which is great to see. Last three four weeks have been very dry and the course is holding up well.
Nice Course
Nice course with plenty opportunity to use all clubs...
You do have to look for ball just off fairways... it rather deep. I had a couple of flyers...
Little slow and a little tight
Pace of play was very bad on the front 9 as everyone was backed up. I’m talking we would finish the home we played to get to the tee box of the next hole where the group in front of us was wanting to tee off. Think this could be adjusted by making start times a little bit further apart from each other. I will say however when we got to the back 9 we didn’t have this problem at all, as things started to work like they should.
Course is in great shape from tee box to green, however this course is super tight. Best comparison I can think of is Glenwood. As long as you can hit the ball straight every time and not have a big slice or hook then you will be fine. This course being so tight does make it that much more challenging. The course over all is very nice for the price.
Great Shape
Course is in better shape than any Bermuda grass course in Central VA -- by a mile. Fun track - great staff - really fast pace of play.
Hurray Public Course
The course is paying awesome. The fairways are in excellent shape, the tee boxes are good and the greens are rolling true for the price you can’t beat Dogwood Trace!
Course is in Great Shape
It’s an unknown Gem! This course gives other regional public courses a level of excellence they can aspire to. Amenities include Clubhouse / Pro Shop built in 2017. The driving range, chipping / sand trap, along with the putting green practice areas are in excellent conditions, just like the course itself. Though I try to avoid sand traps, the traps are well maintained with proper drainage; and your hitting out of real sand - not some compacted sandbox that hasn't been maintained in months. Fairways and greens are well maintained and in the condition I'd consider ideal. The staff, Clubhouse / Pro Shop / Marshalls, are all professional and courteous. Interactions with them leave you feeling appreciated. (As one should but that doesn’t always happen.) Though it is a 45 minute drive, the affordable greens fee makes it worthwhile. (PS. Gas prices are lower than in Richmond too!) I would and do, play this course frequently.
Good day
The course was a little wet from rain but was in great shape. Pace of play was slow but that is normal at Dogwood. Greens putted well. Good value. I play here with friends several times a year.
Good value, perfect travel stop
Going to Pinehurst, just over half way there. Loved the course, played well, short but spongy fairways and quick green. Good to Great shaper early June. Will stop every time in the Richmond area.
Great Value
The course was in great condition. Had a great time and will definitely be back. A few of the older reviews stated the greens were in poor condition however I did not have this experience- they were clean, fast, well kept greens in my opinion. Would recommend this course to anyone in the southern Richmond area.
Good day!
I don’t generally play on the weekend so I-was worried about crowds and pace of play. The fellow golfers were courteous and we were able to finish in a little over 4 hours.
The course was in particularly good shape, to include the greens.
It was a really good day in every way.
Little known Gem
Great short track. Excellent condition. Had a great time playing here, will be back. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, is yardage markers(need more) and greens were a little slow. But still very impressed. Great value for the money.
Great course
This beautiful gem is nestled in the historic Petersburg area. One of the best municipal golf courses I have played. Outstanding conditions. You will use every club in your bag. The new practice faculty is excellent. There is also a new onsite restaurant that makes great lunches, or you can restocks on your beverages.
Great Value
Nice course in great shape for a public course. The pace of play was terrible with several very slow groups in front of us on the back 9 and no marshal to push them along.
This course never disappoints!
DogwoodTrace is by far the best "Value Play" in the Richmond area. It's always in excellent shape and there are never any surprises with course conditions. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I've been talking it up for the last 3 years!
Love This Beautiful Course!
Dogwood Trace is such a great course to play. I am an advanced golfer and professional club maker and I learned the game many years ago as a caddie in Charlottesville at a private golf course, so I know the game and know what a nice layout should be.
Dogwood Trace gains Top Notch, from my perspective, as one of the best public courses in Virginia and the staff has always been friendly and professional.
Nice course, great value, worth the commute
Played this course after a ton of rainy days and was expecting a mud fest, but the course held up extremely well. I think I have come to realize if you are not a consistent good shot golfer it is better to simply walk a course on “carts on path” days, for certain here.
Front nine made me think I was better than I am, back nine quickly gave me a reality check. This is a really nice public course with several water holes to keep things interesting. Great boxes and greens, noticed a few fringes in not as great shape but nothing to cringe over. Fairways were nice when I found them, lol. Clubhouse had a restaurant and bar. I only grabbed a Gatorade, but noticed that they offered a Sunday buffet. I did see some food come out of kitchen and it looked tasty. Nice practice areas including a GRASS driving range.
I traveled from Richmond to try this course and plan to play it again when I have family in town in a couple of weeks. I forgot to mention that we had a staff member join our group, giving us 4 for the front 9. He destroyed us (Even after 9), but it was nice playing with someone that knew the course and he offered some jokes and golf tips as well.
great course conditions
if you're going to score here the front nine is the place to do it .very favorable, back nine is very challenging but a very fun course to play
