Proud to call my Home Course
This local public course is our "go-to" place to play at least once a week. The driving range, chipping and putting practice areas are first-rate, the staff are friendly, and the course itself provides enough of a challenge each week dependent on the weather conditions.
RWD@Dogwood
By far there is no better public course within 50 miles of Richmond. Most consistent greens you'll ever want to play.
Steel of a Deal
Well let me start with the best part of this course, the greens. They are 99.9% healed up from the maintenance performed about a month ago. You can hardly tell where the holes were punched and the greens were rolling true and smooth. The fairways are greening up nicely now that the weather has turned warmer. There are more than a handful of tee boxes that are near bare here though. That and the skirts around many greens are in need of work. Four sets of tee boxes to match any game. The two sides are distinct to each other. The front nine has more elevation change and very little in the way of hazards. It also has three Par 5's and three Par 3's. Two of the three Par 3's are over 200 yards from the blues. The back nine is much more park like with water hazards and flat. There are some longer and more difficult Par 4's on the back nine. This course is on the easier side for walking if you like to walk as I do. Pace of play was excellent but it was a Tuesday at 1230 when I teed off. I could see where pace of play may be an issue when the course gets busy. The value here I feel cannot be beat for the total experience you get. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a good size practice green. The range is more than adequate and has grass to hit off of. There is a new clubhouse with bar/restaurant. The pro shop is nicely stocked with anything you could need. The food was good and a great value like the golf. Definitely one of the all around nicer municipal courses out there.

Beautiful greens , love the new carts.
Enjoyed my day at Dogwood Trace. Played on a Sunday expected play to be slow, but it wasn't. The greens were super fast, and the course as always well maintained.
A friendly round
The staff and especially the starter went out of their way to be helpful, even offering to switch us to one of their brand new, just-delivered golf carts. The course, considering the time of year, was in very good condition. An attractive new clubhouse. We were delighted with our experience
I shall return
I have enjoyed playing this golf course numerous times and will definitely be a frequent flyer there again. The entire staff is extremely friendly. The course can be challenging at time as it was when we faced wind gusts up to about 25 mph making club selection a crap shoot, but that was the fun challenge that day. The fairways, naturally, are not at full bloom yet and that was to be expected for this time of the year. Dogwood Trace has excellent practice facilities and I found a few "keepers" in the range balls I purchased.
LPGA would be a great event here
Always great course conditions and the 19th hole is special as well.
Great folks, course is always good but was recovering from aerating but greens are always true.
Would love to see the LPGA give it a look. Not quite long enough for the PGA hitters but a great venue for spectators.
GO.PLAY.
The course was just areated so greens were a little bumpy. Sand traps were groomed and sandy in spite of recent rains. Fairways were cut niceky and the riugh betwern trees wasnt overgrown. All and all a great golfing experience
Very Good Course
I play this course several times a year and always enjoy playing here. We played on a cold and windy day with very few other fools out there - the pace of play was very good. The fairways have not come in yet since warm days are still at a premium. The greens were in very good condition and putt true and quick. I am always amazed at the condition of this course since it gets a lot of play. It is a great value for the money.
I have just two concerns - parking can be tough if you have a mid day tee time and due to the financial problems that Petersburg has, I am worried that the condition of the course will suffer.
Fun Thursday
For early in the year, the course is in decent condition since temps have not warmed up yet. The greens were in excellent condition, the pace of play could not have been better. The course is fairly open so even beginning golfers can enjoy the course.
Muddy
Great greens. Fairways were threadbare and muddy. To be fair, it had rained the night before. I expected better drainage.
All around good course, value, etc.
They have bermuda fairways so of course they haven't come in yet but overall everything was in good shape.
The restaurant has excellent food all though the wait was too long and the server didn't know anything about what she was serving.
Always enjoy playing this course and will play several more times this year
Nice staff, great course, very busy
This is the nicest course in the area by far. Great staff that are friendly and nice practice area. Since this is the nicest course in the area, it gets very very busy on weekends and the pace of play is very poor. Overall good course and a fun place to play
Beating cabin fever
We played yesterday at 12:03 and the air temperature was around 34 degrees with no wind and overcast. We knew well ahead of time that the course would be frozen and it was. We played just to get outside knowing it would be almost impossible for the frozen greens to hold a shot and they did not. All in all it was an enjoyable round considering we dressed appropriately for the weather, had a cart blanket as well as a cart heater. Getting the T in the ground was the most difficult aspect of yesterday's round.
Best public course around
Dogwood Trace is a gem of a course! If you're in the fairway you'll have a good lye, the rough will punish you about half the time you go there. The greens are relatively fast (I prefer that) depending on when they're cut, real fast on cut day, and they run true.
The practice facilities are excellent, especially for a public course. The putting green is the most difficult green on the course, the is a chipping green with sand trap large enough for 3 people and all the conditions you'll face on the course around it.
