Great staff!
I was impressed with the young man getting my cart for me and the starter giving us some great info about the course play. The beer cart girl was friendly too and on time. Sometimes the staff really makes the difference.
Will definitely play again if the rates are available on Golf Now. I try to keep my greens fees in the 30 to 40 range.
Thanks VB National!
Overall Play
Great course, speed of play slowed due to wet conditions 90 degree could have been implemented.
Va beach bargain
Wow. If you are. A golfer go for va beach national hot buy. Great deal. Previous TPC stadium course design. Great bang for the buck
Great value
Came earlier than tee time. No problem getting out early. Started as single hooked up with 2 other singles. Pace was excellent, 3.5 hours. Course in good shape. Fairways good. Greens hard and fast. Tricky layout. I Don't think they understand the concept of straight. Everything around a bend. Lots of moguls and tough Bermuda grass. Fun day, super hot weather, but would love to play again. .driving range was a welcome site. Great staff.
Waste Bunkering gone
The only negative thing I would say about course is all the great waste Bunkering that Pete Dye put in is gone. They grew thin fescue grass in all those areas and it takes away The visual Tightness that Dye is famous for off the tee. Otherwise it's still a very nice Course
This is a great place to play !!!
After reading some reviews I thought that this course was struggling, but that is so far from the truth. The course was in terrific shape from tee to green. If you've ever played a Pete Dye layout then you know what you're getting. Risk reward shots, visually intimidating at times and always giving you a good fair chance for a par. I loved the layout and will play this course when in the Virginia Beach area. Large practice putting green. A well designed chipping green and grass teeing area on the driving range. If you're looking for a beautiful place to play you will enjoy VB National !!!!
Virginia Beach National
overall a very good course. It was very nice, just not as "pristine" as I expected it to be.
Play somewhere else
The fairways were not in the best shape. By the fifth hole I was stuck behind a seven some and had to call clubhouse to try to get a marshal to resolve the pace of play issue. Noting was resolved by the staff, I was lucky they stopped at the turn. For the money play Calhoun plantation by far the best course in area and it is same price.
Poor/no maintenance
Great design but the course was in very poor condition.
VB National 4242016
Played Virginia Beach National which was a TPC course for the PGA Men. The weather was excellent, the greens were fast but the fairways were slow. The grass has not really grown in yet because it has been a cold Spring.
For a course in Virginia Beach, it has a surprising number of hills and valleys built into it.
Solid design marred by weak conditions.
A very good layout, VA Beach National needs some TLC. Pricier than other courses in the area, I expected top notch conditions, but I was disappointed. Bermuda was dormant, but that didn't hide the many bare patches on the fairways. Rental clubs were older Titleists, but decent clubs.
Dissapointed
Arrived early on rain threatened day booked via a Golf Now Hot Tee Time deal and Pro Shop Attendant allowed us to start 45 minutes earlier since there was hardly anyone on the course. Many thanks to him for that accomodation. Very Nice Club House and well stocked Pro Shop.
Had played the course about 8 years earlier on a vacation and rebooked again because we remembered the the course had a nice challenging layout. Unfortunately, the course conditions have deteriorated significantly since the last time we were there. Greens were a nice speed but dotted with ball marks that looked unatteded to, so it was tough getting a true roll. Bunkers were in poor condition and the waste areas which were the trademark of this course in terms of aesthetics have essentially been given up for dead with virtually complete weed infestation. Fairways okay, but lots of weeds visable. Course is still challenging, but playable. Pace wasn't an issue because of the threatening weather and time of the year.
Overall, just disappointed with the conditions of the course for the money, even at the reduced Golf Now price. If you had to play one round in the area, pay an extra $20 and play at The Signiture at West Neck.
Course is in great shape
Challenging but fun course that is in great shape. I love a good challenge and this course definitely makes you think about what club to use off of the tee. Some of the holes made you pay with a bad tee shot to where you would have to hit a pretty big fade/slice on your 2nd to have a shot at the green or you would just have to hit high over the trees. A must play course in the area. It is always packed because it is one of the best courses in the area so it will take you a good 4 and a half hours to play. The only problem I had with the course is there were a few hole placements on the greens where if you didn't make the putt it would roll back to you and I didn't like that. The greens ate me alive (especially the back 9) as I am not a good putter so if you hate tough greens this isn't the course for you.
Great experience
Had a great relaxing time. Friendly staff and even though I was a single was paired with 2 good men. Great time
Très belles conditions.
Je reviendrai l an prochain avec des amis et je recommande ce golf pour toutes les catégories de golfers.
Enjoyable round of golf at VB National.
We really enjoyed our round of golf for the price! The course was in great shape, but the greens still suffer from neglect of patrons not repairing ball marks. The greens other than that were awesome!! I recommend the pro shop issue out divot tools upon check-in to golfers with a brief explanation to preserve the greens. Overall highly recommend VB National and look forward to playing it again!!
great course
the course as maintained very well and they seemed to have plenty of people working on the course. the greens had recently been aerated and not healed fully, so the greens were a little bumpy. I highly recommend this course to play. five sets of tees offer golfers of all ability a challenge if they choose to do so.
A decent "has been"
This course was once a thing of beauty a few years ago until the city of va beach took over. Now the sand traps are terrible, there are no real beautifully manicured sand waste areas like before and the greens are nice but pitted with ball marks from irresponsible players. It is still a nice layout and a decent place to play for your money. I played as a threesome on a beautiful Friday afternoon and pace of play was terrible at just under 5 hrs for 18 holes.
Not worth the money
Course was in average condition. Used to be TPC and has not maintained to this degree. Pace was horribly slow and we were told by members that this unfortunately is very typical and management will not address the issue. Was expecting more and was very disappointed.
