Good Old Bow Creek
I have played this course most weekends for the last 30 years. It's had its ups and downs condition wise, but generally it is in fairly good shape. Sure it could be better, but at the same time so could the price be higher to accommodate additional help to make it better. I don't need that. What I need and what I get is a great home course that I can paly with my friends in the Blitz and have a lot of fun almost every time I'm there at a price that I see as reasonable for the course. If I want to pay more $$$ there are plenty of course in the area that are willing to charge me more and every once in a while I do play them, but the additional cost is not something that I could afford to do every weekend. For Fun at a reasonable price I choose Bow Creek.
Easy, friendly course
the distance is perfect for me. The layout is fine. City needs to invest for in course maintenance.
Swampland
Bowcreek would be a nice course if it was dry. I understand that it rained hard during the previous days but the course is so flat it doesn’t drain well. It was strange to see lots of people willing to play when it was swampy everywhere. The great thing about the time I played was that the price was cheap. Playing with the rain ponds and mud was still manageable except when the ball lands on the puddles and mud.
It’s my home course
By the title you know I’m bias but I play here more often then not. For just a few bucks you can play a round of golf. It’s not perfect and the city wants to shut it down so they have limited funds. This place does an amazing job for the resources they have. I will continue to play here till they destroy the course.

Peak season conditions for Bow Creek
good shape for august. greens were good, fairways were green and lush, tee boxes were good. due to recent rains was a little soggy, and the only complaints were slow players not giving way to faster players, and no one repairing divots on greens. some ball marks were as big as quarters. much better conditions than in late june.
Nice public course.
Good public course in Virginia Beach. I played as a single. Needed to play through a few holes to keep up with my pace of play. There were some rough patches on the fairways and tee boxes. Over all what I expected.

Bow Creek is a course with a fair amount water hazards. The layout is easy to read, but challenging for an average golfer.
Great for the money
For a $34 Saturday morning tee time, this course was great. Green we’re a bit soft but clean kept well. Fairways needed a little bit more work but we’re wonderful to hit of of. Bunch of turns and doglegs made it more challenging. One of the better courses I’ve played at as a high school golf player.
Warm local course.
For playing on a Saturday very few people were there. Yes it was in the 90’s for a July day. They have so may shade trees to hide under. Greens were in fabulous shape. Only a few fairways were loosing some grass from lack of natural rain. So trimming along the waterways and ditches could be maintained better. Sorry the city of Va Beach maybe taking the land back but right now I say it was a great course to play.
Give the Creek another try
Ok - so I’ve played this course for many many years. The area had a bad rap for awhile, but things have really improved over the years. Now I’m not saying Bow Creek is any Pebble Beach, but there are so many folks that won’t give BC the time of day. It’s improved a lot and when the Bermuda grass comes in for the spring/summer it’s fine and a real value. The course may be a bit short in comparison to others in the area but it makes up for it in other ways such as small greens on many holes. And although some par 4’s are relatively short, you need to be able to hit the ball straight to fair well. #12 is a great example. Over a Creek 170 out and a dogleg. I always play the back (blue) tees as that brings it to around 6000 yds. I see others that are intimidated by the “back” tees but that’s all in their heads. Blue tees at BC makes the course comparable to any white tees in the area. I will say the bunkers could really use improvement as most seem like a mix of just dirt and sand. The greens are usually in fine shape, not real fast but just uniform and in good shape. Easy course to walk too. It doesn’t drain that well, so try to not play after a heavy rain - but for the money - give the Creek a try.

Good value for the price
Don't expect the Masters. This is an old course that has undergone some tinkering over the years. Greens are firm and in good shape. The layout can be challenging if you play it from the tips with several doglegs and a couple of drives over water. It is an easy course to walk.
