Ford's Colony Country Club - Blackheath Course

Played with y 17 year old daughter and another twosome on a Tues. Hot deal for $25. So a fantastic deal. This is a great course. A challenging layout in great shape. Greens rolled true and the fairways were beautifully manicured. Of course, a few rough spots on the greens that could be helped if people repaired their ballmarks but we played late in the day so not unexpected (unfortunately). Had water on every 3rd hole but no cart girl or any way to get a snack at the turn. Not a hugh deal but had I known, would have planned better.

I’m a novice and will normally lose 2 or 3 balls but this course took 11 from me. I shot the worse score in over a year but I had more fun playing this course than almost any other course. From the pro-shop to the starter to the last staff person who said “I hope you had fun, how did you do?” I felt like family. The course is beautiful and deceptively challenging. The starter suggested I use a color ball on the first tee because it is next to the driving range. That didn’t help I lost my first ball anyway. If you venture to the East coast take in the historical sites but don’t pass up playing 18 here.

Beautiful high end course. Excellent staff. Shortish but challenging layout. Tad dry, but they've been short on rain lately. All in all an excellent experience. Great value will a hot deal from GN.

Over all the course is good shape minus the greens. This lies mostly in people not repairing their ball marks. Sadly I also got stuck behind pretty terrible golfers without an ounce of etiquette, so I had to skip a hole to beat the sunset and an additional 30+ minutes. Over all $28 on golf now is unbeatable for this caliber course.

We played 6 courses on GolfNow.com while on vaction in Williamsburg and this was far and away the best kept. The greens were in great shape. You can really tell they take great care all the way around. We played Blackheath the last day. It was a great way to finish since I shot my lowest round ever and my playing partner went under par and was only 1 off his career low.

Course was very well laid out and challenging. course was in good shape except a little watering of the fairways would have been nice. Fairways were dry and straw like.

I played the Blackheath course for the second time, and it's a beautiful course! The starter was amazing and let me start on the back 9 since I was a single so I wouldn't have to wait. The course was not in the greatest of shape as we just had a week of 100 degree days without rain, but that is not the fault of the course, just the weather. My only big issue is the golf carts, on this trip and my one roughly a month ago, the carts are in lousy condition. They don't accelerate well and half the time you have to press down quite a few time to get them to move at all. But besides that, it's a beautiful course and great fun to play

Course was in horrible shape! Dried up fairways and greens. Better bring a hammer to get you tee in the ground. No ball washer til you get to the 14th hole. Played the next day at Colonial Heritage only a few miles away from Ford's colony and the course was beautiful. I would suggest don't waste your money at Ford's colony and play Colonial Heritage

Played an enjoyable round with my wife, we really enjoyed the layout. We had a great hot deal for $25.00 on a $79.00 course. Playing the Blackheath course was the highlight of our vacation. My wife shot her career round which made it a special round that we will never forget.

Great afternoon at this resort . Every thing top quality . Helpful and friend ly staff. Course where you can use every club in the bag. Must play the ground ball as well as the in the air shots. Food and drink after we're great. Just a short hop to Williamsburg and Jamestown . Put this on your list of places to go to.

My wife and I played this course the Monday prior, but left after 13 holes due to a drenching thunderstorm. However, we knew we had found a gem and hoped to return before vacation was over.

Our chance came on our last day

Arriving early, we hoped for a gracious starter, but sank as we saw two foursomes waiting at the first tee. We got off near our scheduled tee time after being paired with another married couple who just happened to have grown up in our home state.

Over 5 hours later (thus the rating for Pace of Play) we had enjoyed a beautifully manicured course with a challenging layout, wonderful company and a desire to return if the occasion allows.

The greens were amazing. The whole course was in great condition. Layout for women was very friendly.

This is really an excellent course. Scenic and has a lot of variety. Very well kept. Greens were great. The fairways were a little hard but I think that was because of the lack of rain.

Fords Colony is a great golfers environment. Three 18 hole courses that are different and unique. First time playing Marsh Hawk and would probably be my favorite. Now the bad news , understand shutting it down for few months to redo greens. WHY.? Thought greens were great and love the layout. Oldest of the three and not as many homes and the homes really do not distract. Even on the par 3 17 th that is surrounded by nice smaller homes that felt more like a retirement area, the homes almost gave the hole a stadium affect. Love the layout ! Must have been good layout because even being a senior can remember each hole and how I played it , good and bad . The back nine was my favorite being little more slice oriented and launched couple nice left to right fades clearing fairway traps to leave little approach to some really nice greens. Blue Heron longest and most forgiving off tee, but the greens are the challenge . Blackheath tight, water and I find the most challenging. Marsh Hawk just had a more natural feel which I really prefer. Saying all that I'll drive down from Richmond , check in with my tee time and let them point which one to play . From pro shop to the gentlemen loading unloading carts , the starters , all the practice amenities and then a drink at Murdochs after makes for a full day of great golfers environment. Oh and if staying like we were for LPGA at Kingsmill the Manor at Fords Colony is a gem . Already planning our next trip down .

What a great experience with wonderful scenery and very well maintained grounds. The greens were very true and good pace with a difficulty of 8 out of 10
