Golfer Reviews
Ford's Colony - Blackheath Course
The greens were amazing. The whole course was in great condition. Layout for women was very friendly.
Excellent golf course
This is really an excellent course. Scenic and has a lot of variety. Very well kept. Greens were great. The fairways were a little hard but I think that was because of the lack of rain.
That's what I'm talking about
Fords Colony is a great golfers environment. Three 18 hole courses that are different and unique. First time playing Marsh Hawk and would probably be my favorite. Now the bad news , understand shutting it down for few months to redo greens. WHY.? Thought greens were great and love the layout. Oldest of the three and not as many homes and the homes really do not distract. Even on the par 3 17 th that is surrounded by nice smaller homes that felt more like a retirement area, the homes almost gave the hole a stadium affect. Love the layout ! Must have been good layout because even being a senior can remember each hole and how I played it , good and bad . The back nine was my favorite being little more slice oriented and launched couple nice left to right fades clearing fairway traps to leave little approach to some really nice greens. Blue Heron longest and most forgiving off tee, but the greens are the challenge . Blackheath tight, water and I find the most challenging. Marsh Hawk just had a more natural feel which I really prefer. Saying all that I'll drive down from Richmond , check in with my tee time and let them point which one to play . From pro shop to the gentlemen loading unloading carts , the starters , all the practice amenities and then a drink at Murdochs after makes for a full day of great golfers environment. Oh and if staying like we were for LPGA at Kingsmill the Manor at Fords Colony is a gem . Already planning our next trip down .
Oh Ya
What a great experience with wonderful scenery and very well maintained grounds. The greens were very true and good pace with a difficulty of 8 out of 10
Nice round.
They have three courses, and I played the Blackheath course. The staff all the way from the check-in to the starter were all very accommodating. I was scheduled to play one of the other courses, but the starter directed me to the less crowded one since I was playing by myself. Not knowing the course can get you into some trouble with club selection, but a nice couple who knew the course well let me join them. I enjoyed playing here, and look to play it again!
Williamsburg trip
This was a great time and Ford Colony has 3 full 18 hole courses. LOVED IT
Hot deals
I paid 35 on hot deals, the course was great shape. You better have laser Finder, because some greens are30 to 40 long. You could be off two clubs in hitting close to pin.l don't think I would pay the 89 the normal greens.
Ford's Colony Blue Herron
Had a great time playing Blue Herron. The greens were in great shape. Very smooth with moderate speed. The Bermuda fairways are just starting to grow in; so some spots were excellent and others...not so good. The Fairways were moist; so there was not a lot of roll. I would definitely play this course again.
Ford colony golf
Course in decent shape considering time of year. Course is challenging but very forgiving at same time.
Great enviornment
Fords Colony is a comfortable and welcoming enviornment for golfers . Played three times now and definitely worth the drive from Richmond . Course layouts , amenities and most of all the people make this a must stop on golfers bucket list . Greens are coming around but still need a little work , other than that can't wait to come back in a few weeks . Only wish is one day to play Blackheath without it being windy, but wind or not will be back .
Beautiful layout without unfair penalties
Although there is an abundance of water around the course the water is more of a view than a penalty. I will definately come back to play again.
Poor greens
greens were poor just like we were told. they plan to rebuild the greens this summer.
Winter Bermuda
The course was great, except the grass was dormant and all brown. The starter said the greens were bad, but my wife and I thought they were decent considering it's March.
Deceptive. Not as open as it looks
Great demanding course. Plenty of water and deep fairway bunkers narrow your landing areas. Changes in elevation. Lots of holes require a carry unto the green or off the tee. Greens have subtle breaks but need to be maintained a little better.(keeping from rating a 5).
Golf in march baets shoveling snow
Course fairways where dormant but very playable greens could have been in better shape lots of bald spots which meant little craters on the way to the hole but its march could be a winter thing
Great course
After reading all the reviews about this course , my friends and I decided to give it a try . We were not disappointed . Great course layout . For this time of the year , the fairways are dormant ......course and greens are in great shape . Greens are ridiculously fast , . The staff was very friendly and professional . Forgot the name of the starter .....he was super nice , gave us some tips on the course since we were first timers . I would definitely be back to play Fords Colony again . By the way , we played Blue Heron .
