Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Great Course
The course is in good shape. Pace of play is good we did not have to wait.
Outstanding value
Can’t beat this course for the price. Great pace of play, Well maintained. Greens true and fast. Very scenic.
Great maintained course
I play every where in the Puget Sound , great value and a great course. Worth the time checking in with the base gate.
Slow play
I played in a cart and by myself. I was just out for a practice round. Hitting multiple shots and taking my time since nobody behind me and really nobody in front of me until I turned the corner. Then came to a screeching halt. An older couple was in front of me, but they weren’t the problem. A group of four ladies were in front of them taking forever! After following for two holes I couldn’t take it anymore. They weren’t allowing anyone to play through. They were three holes behind the group in front of them. Came to find out it was Womens day so they were behind the group in front of them when they started. I ended up skipping a couple holes to just get in front of them. Saved myself at least 45 min. I understand it was ladies day, but don’t ruin everyone else’s experience. Play faster or groups play through. Maybe a marshal on the course would help too.
Memorial Day
Played on Memorial Day. Staff must have had the day off. One person working the pro shop. Long line to check in. No starter on the first tee. Absolute chaos.
Putting greens are poor. Animal tracks leave bare spots all over the greens. I don’t think they change the hole position. Several greens were totally covered in tree debris. Seems like very little effort is given to maintaining the course.
This is what happens when management cares more about one course than the other. "Chaos" is an understatement.
Very Good Course
Beautiful course with many open fairways to let rip with the driver. Greens were a little rough but rolled well.
Nice Course
Have played the course in scrambles before so was anxious to see how I could play it on my own. The course was in good condition and played long from the Whites as I hadn't played in 6 months and was barely getting 200 yards off the tee. They actually have 5 sets of tees and I would play gold the next time out. Enjoyable round. Because it is on a Military Base you need to bring a passport (or enhanced ID), Driver's License and car registration to be able to get through the main gate. Need to stop at Guest Services before reaching the Gate to get the pass to so you can get through the Main Gate to the course.
Great course
Sand traps are very challenging but this is a beautiful golf course great value
Great landscape, staff cut likely for the season.
It’s November, I get it. Not overly soggy but lots of branches down from windy days some time ago. Bunkers in rough shape.but still fun.
No discount from golf now
These greens were recently punched and absolutely covered with sand. Putting was an experience! I tried several times to contact golf now and ask for an appropriate discount considering the conditions (I paid full price for two golfers). I had zero luck. The course even told me that golfers who made their tee times directly thru the course were discounted. Golfnow in my opinion, makes it very hard to reach them if you have an issue. It is however very easy to pay them. I’m very disappointed in their lack of customer service
Where was the marshal? Should have called the pro shop.
