About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Check in great, staff friendly and conscientious. Got us off early. Fairways had some bare patches and greens ran true even though they recently had been treated for an infection. Would definitely play here again. Two visitors from Southern California.
Well worth it
I love this layout. Bit of time required to get on base but worth it.
Whispering Firs
Website states you need an enhanced drivers license or passport. Was unable to get on the base due to the base stating you also need a sponsor to play. Should state that on the website too. Disappointed we couldn’t play after bringing correct documentation and visiting the visitor center for access and still denied, ended up playing a local Olympia, WA course thankfully.
COULD NOT PLAY
I BOOKED THE TEE TIME ON GOLF NOW. WE WERE NOT ALOUD ON BASE WITHOUT AN ENHANCED DRIVERS LICENSE. MY ONLY ISSUE IS GOLF NOW DID NOT LET US KNOW THIS WAS NEEDED AND OF COURSE THAT THEY WILL NOT ISSUE US A REFUND BECAUSE IT WAS A "HOT DEAL". ALL WE NEEDED WAS A POP UP NOTICE BY GOLF NOW TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS AND LOSS OF FULLY PAID ROUNDS.
Course is in good shape
Course was in good shape. Greens a little slow, but run true. Plays a little long from the white tees, so if your game is not 100% you may want to play the gold tees.
Need some proactive step for your client
Please warn ahead to your client to get a gate pass from the Visitor Center in order to pass the gate of military check point! I get refusal to enter the premise because of reject the gate pass and end up being taken off from the tee time. What a waste of time to drive all over for the game and totally disappointed by refusal entry to the course because of this!!!! This can be avoided if the course manage well to tell ahead to their customers. Not professional done by the management team. I end up not being refunded by GOLFNOW for not enough reason.
How can you blame the golf course when you used Golf Now??? Blame the Golf Now management. Doesn't this make more sense?

12:28 tee time, played the up tees, I was able to hit 3 wood on several par 4 holes making it an enjoyable afternoon. Starter let us play as a twosome behind what looked like a family threesome. Really enjoyed the round. Course condition overall was fantastic. I hit into a couple of bunkers but got out each time with one shot. I had no trouble reading the greens, a 20 footer on 16 going into the hole was the highlight of the round.
Would have been easier/quicker if you had called. Now you know.
