About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Greens
I have played the course before and enjoyed it previously. However this time the tee times were messed up, which in turn made pace of play rushed. The greens had been recently aerated and it was like playing on the beach. There was so much sand.
Whispering Firs
Great place to play!!! We arrived a day after a windstorm, so there was a lot of tree's branches down. It was still a very enjoyable course!
Good military course
We four enjoyed our round at Whispering Firs, on McChord AFB, and will return. The course is a fair test. Two of our foursome are beginners, and they were quite satisfied. The greens are not first rate (4 stars), but we figured it out. The GN instructions for entering the base are vague. One needs to stop FIRST in the visitor center to get a pass. That requires either an enhanced DL, or a passport. You also need car registration and the insurance card. The GN form is useful. It takes some time, but once the pass is secured, drive to the sentry gate and show the pass. Follow the road around to the right to reach the golf course. It will be nicer when covid goes away and the restaurant opens.
It would be advantageous for you to call the Pro Shop first to find out about the logistics you would need to know about. Also, it may be cheaper for you to call the course to make a tee time. Call to inquire about the difference in costs.
Really bad course condition, and rude staff
For 39 dollars, I wasted my money. Fairway, greens, were horrible. It looked like hasn't been maintained for weeks. Greens were worse than broccoli. Could you please tell the general manager to improve the quality, or else they will continue to book elsewhere.
You need to contact the JBLM Golf Director to enter a complaint that he would be aware of. I don't think he reviews this website. His name is Jeff Clark.
I think this course will be nice to play in summer, but for now the greens are bumpy and wet. Other than that I have a hood experience overall
Instead of just checking a "box" how about including some insight with Objective commentary of exactly what you are trying to share/convey about your thoughts & what your audience would like to learn from these experiences.

Whispering Firs is Outstanding
Perfect day to play. Staff was very helpful and friendly. My lunch was excellent. The putting greens and fairways are well maintained and the practice putting greens and driving range well kept.
Would like to play here again
Foggy morning but a great day for golf at at nice golf course. Pro Shop attendant very polite and helpful.
Pronghorn Golf Experience Package
Sounds like you are an experienced golfer. And with that, you should have been aware of "aeration/punching" dynamics of golf courses during this time of year. So, why didn't you ask the pro-shop personnel when you made your t-time? And if you made your t-time via the internet, why didn't you have enough common sense to make an inquiry during this time of the new golf season??? So, what say you?
