Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Whispering Firs is Outstanding
Perfect day to play. Staff was very helpful and friendly. My lunch was excellent. The putting greens and fairways are well maintained and the practice putting greens and driving range well kept.
Would like to play here again
Foggy morning but a great day for golf at at nice golf course. Pro Shop attendant very polite and helpful.
Beware of Golf now on this.
Booked a tee time, paid in full, get to the gate at the course and they won't let us on because we weren't told it requires Federal ID clearance to play. Can't cancel and now no refund.....this sucks!!
Would like to play here again
We were able to tee off early which helped us with pace of play as we were in front of other players. When we made the turn and then it slowed down. The slow down wasn't as bad as we have encountered at other courses. Moved fairly well.
Desk person was very helpful and has been the few times we played this course before.
We live a long ways away so we wish Golf Now could get a later morning Tee Time that was a Hot Value.
Great course great people
I would recommend my friends and families to go play at Whispering Firs any , everybody treats each other with respect regardless of nationality. I consider Whispering Firs as m y home course and will continue to play and enjoy one of the best course I’ve ever played.
They wouldn’t let me on base
I had played some months ago at whispering Firs and was told at the time that I can use my drivers license to gain entry on to the base until September. Today i arrived an hr early But was denied entry. I hope Golf Now understands and credits me for the round I paid for but could not play. I did manage to get a tee time at a near by course with golf now and had a great time.
Greens and tees are hammered
Tee boxes had not been cut the day I played and divots everywhere . Long grass between club and ball after being teed up. Greens in rough shape. Many ball marks ignored. Craters everywhere.
Best value course in Puget Sound by several miles ahead of the rest!!!!
Tight fairways, excellent maintenance. Entertaining design.
There are a good mix of easy and challenging holes. And the challenging holes, for the most part, are not absurd (like a tree in the middle of a fairway on a par 5).
Greens can be spotty at times, but that's the area as a whole anyways.
Patrons mostly are not your usual weekend hacks, resulting fast pace of play. (If you do play there, please respect the course.)
Easily the best course in the area for value. Next level up would be Home Course or WA National.
Being on base is great as well. Just have necessary documents ready and arrive 30 minutes early at the gate.
Whispering Firs is Outstanding
The course is exceptionally well maintained. The Pro Shop attendant was professional. courteous, friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend this course as it favorably compares to most private courses in the state.
Nice course with challenges.
I enjoy this course. Some narrow fairways with lots of trees. Several tee boxes for all level of players. Greens were fast and run true. Course is always in great shape. If you are in the area, give it a try. Make sure you have proper ID and vehicle insurance to get on base.
questionable oversite
Front nine no problem because of early tee time, but back nine started to bog down due to a tournament being allowed to start on the back nine.
Whispering Firs GC
Excellent course. Always well maintained. Military and civilian patrons are courteous, friendly and respectful and maintain excellent golf etiquette.
Best thing to do is to call the pro shop directly for tee time{s}.
