Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Two Problems
When I arrived, there was no handicap parking available. Also pro shop attendee forgot to tell me about how to release parking brake on golf cart because it is different than most golf carts.
Nice condition
Greens punched on Monday but overall condition was not bad. Fairways were good and tee box’s were great
Best keep secret in the south sound.
Checking in at McCord airfroce base guard gate was a challenging. Took over 1/2 hr.
Enjoyable and challenging course.
My buddy and I started at 7:40am and finished by 11am. The course was wide open and that helped make for the enjoyable round. The course is in good condition as there were a few areas under repair however they didn't affect play. The scenery and abundant wildlife is always a plus. The staff in the proshop were very friendly. The food in the restaurant was really good and affordable. Can't wait to play it again.....especially with the Golf Now discounted price :-).
could not get on course...Beware
Booked golf for Whispering Firs Golf Course. it is on an air force base. I am a canadian citizens. they would not let me on base. they said i was a foreign national and needed someone from base to sign me in. They called pro shop and pro shop did not have anyone to sign me in. After paying golf now i did not get to golf!!!
Good for all levels.
Layout was simple with most doglegs turning left. Great greens. Good for all levels. Real challenge is in distance by teeing off from the desired tee-boxes. Give yourself some time to reach the course as the course is in a restricted area with entry protocols to observed.
Keep it in the fairway!
Phew boy, I lost over a dozen balls here. Now I won't blame it on the course, I've always felt if you don't like the rough or OB, well, don't hit it there. So not the course's fault. In fact a regular told me it used to be easier until the tree huggers got a hold of the place and made 'em quit mowing the rough. Well in the words of White Goodman, "the hippies finally got something right!" Because the course is very scenic, and if I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely need to come back and redeem myself.
Wonderful experience
Well maintained and challenging course mostly through "whispering firs". Anyone paying this course needs to allow at least 20 minutes to obtain a pass for the base but it is worth it.
Good golf!
6300 from the whites (regular men's tees) is longish, with much of the extra length on several 4 pars: #2, #6, #7,#13, and #17. The 4 5 pars are hard to birdie for the average bloke, the 3 pars aren't short (all over 150 yards), again not easy birdie holes for the above 10 handicappers.Excellent greens, nice speed, not easy to lag putt.So...pretty challenging track every time you play it.
Whispering 7/14/2018
Excellent day and round of golf..getting on the property continue. to be a hassle..need more employees at the main gate to grant base admittance
Fun Day
As always the course was fun, and we had a great time.
No big problems
First time playing the course in 20 years. There were a lot of ants om the greens and around the tee boxes. Took about 15 minutes to get checked in through the main gate. Overall a good experience and playn on playing again soon.
Great course
Great course friendly staff worth the trouble of getting into the base as a civilian. Fyi you need to go to the main entrance unless you have military ID. Add a little extra time to when you book, but so worth it!
This course needs lots of attention
Poor Green surfaces. Fairways were terrible. Landscaping was terrible.
