Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Great course and easy for walking
We had to go through in-processing at the visitors center so make sure you bring your enhanced ID and your patience. Great course and not many people playing it so the pace was up to us.
Whispering “”out off there mouths.
Wouldn’t let us in. What a joke. Want my money back.
Understaffed on a Saturday? Only have 3 people on staff? The worst course couldn’t have that.
Don’t go.
Don’t go!
Fun course
Greens were soft throughout the day despite being in the high 80s. Fairways forgiving and wide.
Average
The only reason I play here is the Golf Now Hot Deals. Great price for 18 holes with a power cart. Other than that not much to rave about. If all other courses in my area have tournaments or no available tee times then I might book a round at Whispering Firs.
Greens need improvement. Fairways are chopped up. Players need to take more time fixing their ball marks and divots. Course layout is good and the amenities are good. Plan on spending 15 to 30 minutes checking in at the visitor's center.
Could not get in
Tried to call your company when I got home because my wife couldn't getin to play because they wanted enhanced drivers license!! Called the number on your website to get money back wait would have been THREE HOURS!!! Call again this AM and was the same time wait. So golfer be a
AWARE!!
Very challenging course
Other than the slight hassle getting on base, the course was worth playing. Lots of challenging holes with fast greens. The pace of play was about a 4 hour round.
Perfect day
The course was in great shape and very challenging. Can’t wait to try it again.
Early spring but good shape
Tees: B
Fairways: B
Rough: B
Traps: C
Greens: B+
Plugged greens have almost fully recovered by April 12.... some traps need maintenance … no indication of front, middle, back pin placement
the past trouble of getting on base has been simplified.... enhanced driver's license is good enough or driver's license with passport... driver need proof of insurance and regestration
This course has a great layout.
Nice layout, greens are in great shape. Wish there was a place to relax after the round, snack bar food court all closed can't even get in to use the facility.
Great time! Every time.
Getting to the course takes extra time for obvious
reasons, but once there I always have an enjoyable day. They even have tee boxes down range for the Mrs. so she can enjoy golf with you and not hold you up;). They keep the course in good shape even when others in the area can’t keep up with difficult seasonal trends.
Good practice room/range and Habenaros is a great place to grab a tasty bite at the turn.
Always a good outing for me, and should be for you too. Enjoy!
Lovely trees
Had a great time on the golf course, the surroundings are beautiful a fair amount of sand traps around the greens Could make it challenging for a higher handicap player. One thing to note you have to obtain a pass at the base gate. You should allow extra time for that.
McChord AFB requires security to get thru the gate. Perhaps you should have inquired about that first; not assuming you would have free access. An enhanced drivers license or a passport would have sufficed. Actually, many of the reviews for Whispering Firs are highly recommended. Hope you have a better experience next time.
