Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Winter golf
This course provides an opportunity for some decent winter golf. We’re in the middle of the rainy weather and relief can be had from some of the wetter areas.
All in all a good round.
Excellent Winter Course
The best Winter course in the North West. It takes 15 minutes more to go thru the security check at the gate, But it really worth the extra time for a great course.
Fantastic
Wow! This was pretty impressive with the way the weather has been. Yes, it was still wet and paths only but I was so impressed with the greens. That’s just me, if the greens are good then everything else is okay. Greens were running med-fast and with no blemishes. There were a couple of 4-domes that slowed it down but they did have to walk a lot so it kind of slowed everything down. Other than that, I was still happy because of the greens.
Outstanding ratings.......
This is my home course, but am critical of various aspects. However, I have nothing but outstanding things to say about this course.
Management is extremely pro active in regards to the clubs, outsiders and tournament venues.
Course maintenance is unbelievable! With a limited staffing, these gentlemen led by John is keeping this course in outstanding condition, day after day.
Habanero restaurant just reopened, and is up to their fine standards as before. Kudos to the folks that work there.
However, there is one low point. During the week, a golfer has to register/sign in at the cash register in the restaurant (the Pro shop is closed during the weekdays). This is a hindrance for many (diners and golfers and staff). Much was spent on the new pro shop, but cannot be utilized until the winter season is over with.
Overall rating.... "outstanding", but wish something could be done to rectify the signing in process (many people comment and do not like this practice).
For all that work there, they are all professionals and I would recommend this course each and every time.
Love it
Great course, but like most military run courses I’ve been to, the off course amenities (restaurant, bar etc...) are often closed. Staff was very friendly.
Keep your putter in the bag
Great fall day, sunny and clear. Club house told us greens were punched two weeks ago. Each green looked punched but obviously not sanded or at least not enough. It was putting on a giant pad of Swiss cheese. Majority of the greens didn't look like there was any sand, some had minimal. Other courses in the area that punched and sanded at the same time have way better greens. These were unplayable and we should have been discounted for the round. The air was not working also, only a small scrub brush to clean the gear. Not a big deal but annoying. On the bright side this was the fastest pace of play I've ever had on the course on a weekend. Fairways were solid and it seems to have a better attendant at the club house than the past. Good to get some swings but don't keep score
the course was in great shape all except the greens, still has the remains of aerating. Other than that great pace and everything else was up to par for the course.
Great course
Very nice course and staff was excellent. Big shout too the restaurant staff.

Excellent price through Golf Now
Everything was good to excellent. Great course, friendly staff and a great price.
Great Course
Great course on McChord AFB. Pace of play was perfect. Course was challenging, but fair for the average golfer. Excellent condition. Saw a coyote on two separate fairways. Beautiful scenery! Highly recommend this course for a great golfing experience!
