Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Staff very helpful. Course was great considering on how dry it has been the past two months. Looking forward to playing again soon!
That feeling you get when you see an old friend for the first time in a long time...
I finally made it back out to Whispering Firs after about a decade...The course didnt disappoint. It is the course that i spent a ton of time on...Either at the range the practice greens everywhere...its a great course...little dry but that's expected with the weather we have had. The greens were fair and rolled true...the only bummer was the grill. It was not open so I was a little hungry.
Whispering Firs at McCord AFB
It's a nice course with a great layout and some really fun holes, some short par 4's and a couple of long ones, friendly staff with Marshals on the course to help things run smooth, I will play it again !!!!
It feels like it's your own course ,Because it's not packed with lot of people
The course is fun to play the greens are rolling really nice improve the maintenance of the Course .Because it's a secure base is not a ton of people playing and just like you have a little country-club of your own
Good course for the price
Make sure you allow yourself an extra 15 minutes to wait inline to get an entry pass if you're not in the military. Good greens and a great deal. 6700 yards from the blue tees
Nice Course
The course is enjoyable and well maintained. One recommendation to improve the pace of play and player frustration would be to mow the long rough so it is possible to find balls.
The other recommendation is to make sure first time players know that, because it is located on a military base, extra time, and proper paper work (license or passport, proof of insurance and registration) is required to enter the base. And, plan to spend at least 1/2 hour getting a visitor pass
Outstanding personnel who really care
The new management is very pro-active to supply the military/veterans community with various new events, for individuals and families as well.
The grounds maintenance personnel are detailed orientated, professional and have been doing an outstanding job in turning WFGC around to a very enjoyable venue.
Whispering Firs
Great day.
Only negative - its on a military base and it took 1/2 hour to get a permit to enter.
Perfect Day for Golfing
Perfect weather, sunny, about 68 degrees. First time this year in shorts. Course is in excellent condition considering the winter we've been through. Greens and fairways are good. The rough is longer than normal shortening your drives if hit there. Speed of play was excellent, finished the round in 4 hours. Course is deceptively longer due to laying up to doglegs.
Qwiked at WF
Excellent day with my son, course is challenging but not too difficult for 15 HC.
Super Professional Staff
Would definitely recommend this course. One of the best in Washington.
Same Ol
The course itself has a lot of moss on the greens, some anyways, and some pretty soggy spots. The biggest issue with this course is they do not accountable for the tee times. I booked an 11:34 on GN which had one other player booked. I got there at 11:10 and was told that player had already left and I could go whenever. So being left as a single I ended up following a twosome that was behind a threesome. Fortunately the threesome only played 9 holes and they were not too busy. But it's these tactics that result in long rounds when they are busy and it's unacceptable. People should have to play at the time they are scheduled, period.
Outside of security entering the main gate, the course is an excellent place to paly. It does not have a good practice driving range.
Practice area is limited. Excellent course for the money.
A glorious 3 and 1/2 hour round!
A great golfing experience. The only drawbacks I noticed were several dead spots on the fairways and some weird fungal growth on some of the greens. Other than that, this course it a winnah!
Nice course!
First time playing but I liked the challenging layout and most of the course was in better than average shape compared to others in the area. KILLER hot deal on GolfNow!
This is a military course so not very crowded (at least on this Friday or other weekdays I suspect) so we never waited nor pushed really. REMINDER, because it is a military base, if you don't have a military ID of some sort, it is a bit of a pain to get on base. You either have to have the advanced Drivers License, or bring your passport! The driver must show current insurance card and registration. While you wait they actually do a brief background check so plan on a minimum of 15 min at the gate and probably much more on the weekend (see other reviews).
