Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Playing in the Mist
The weather was very misty with light rain. Fairways very well-maintained and the greens were excellent. There was no slow down in peace of play. There are plenty of amenities at the clubhouse. There’s a very nice chipping and sand trap practice area next to the range. The driving range very wide, very well maintained by the staff.
Course has fallen into disrepair
This was my ‘home’ course until 2014. A great layout. Challenging. Fun to play. Beautiful. Back then.
The course wasn’t as fun in 2024. Large black ants were on nearly every green and would crawl on your shoes and up your legs.. The fairways looked a bit shabby. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens appeared to need some monetary investment and TLC. It was sad for me to see as it used to be a pristine course.
Fun and challenging.
Been wanting to play the firs for a long time. Lived up to my expectations. I'll definitely give it another go.
A Great Round
Fun to play. Easy pace! Course in great condition. Staff friendly.
BRING ID, REGISTRATION, AND CAR INSURANCE
Make sure you get your visitors pass at the checkpoint! Saves a lot of time and headache.
Got food closes at 2pm which is a bummer cuz I didn’t get my glizzy on the turn.
A lot of singles go out and they don’t try to pair them. Be ready to let people play through or join you.
There’s a wide level of golfers that play here
Funtastic
Great day with friends at a player friendly course
Bang for bucks, pro shop staff was rude.
I booked the round on golf now, as it was a good deal. Once I checked in, I asked the old gentleman at pro shop that were the restrooms were. He gave me directions. When I came out of the restroom, I was surprised to see that the pro shop guy was going through my bag, like some kind of security check. I didn’t appreciate that but decided not to say anything. And just went to the first tee box.
Value
I’m an id card holder and golf now charges 61 dollars today when if I were to call the course itself I’d only have to pay 51 dang golf now you screwed me on 10 bucks. There should be a military option. And another thing your hot deals suck anymore you need to have more single player tee times and early in the morning like in previous years. In other words golf now is really dropping the ball on veterans and going down hill
