Go play early
Course was in good shape. Hitting off mats that need special tees on many holes but that's because they're working on the teeboxes.
I started at 2 and the pace of play was good. When I got 9 I could see the train of people lining up at 1.
This then bled over to people starting on the back 9.
Attached picture is when I was completing the 18th.
Beautiful
Beautiful settings for a short 18 holes. The greens were pretty slow and in OK shape. The pole in the middle of the fairway is 100 yds, not the typical 150. Other than that a really nice day.
Easy walk for Seniors
WE got a hot deals round so it was well worth the money. Lots of improvements including a very friendly staff. Short course very easy front nine and much longer back nine. Ruff was a little long making the fairways a must to land on.
Good value
Overall condition of the greens and fairway have improved from the renovation. Not sure if the par 4 holes were shorten because of the Jr. Tournament that day. It's too bad that many of the Par 3s use mats instead of real turf. One of the holes was shorten with a temporary green. I hope it's just trmporary.
It's a good short course to practice since I have not played for a long while. It's a good value if you can get the Hot Deals.
An Enjoyable Course
I haven't played Deep Cliff in 5-6 years. It is evident that there is a lot of work going on to improve the condition of the course. I do hope the mats on many of the tees are temporary or only when conditions are too wet for grass tees. With the cliffs on one side of the course, it is a scenic location in the heart of a residential area.
The course can be a fun place to practice your short to mid-iron shots to greens. Also, it would be a good place for beginners and short hitters. The par 4's don't require a driver to be playable. But, the fairways can be narrow. Walking is easy on this course.
The pace of play was rather slow the first nine, but several groups quit at the turn so this picked up the pace.
I wish it was closer to my home.
my best game this year. I wish it was located closer to my home.
Deep Cliff Review
Course is in much better shape since the renovations have been completed. Tee boxes use to be in horrendous shape. All par 3's have a mat that you hit off of on the tee box. Different but not bad. Good course for the price.
Ok
Play was slow staff were great course in ok condition, it was new year's eve
Course Marshall Inappropriate
Took my friends here for the their first time. A couple of them are new to golf. In the middle of the round the Marshall pulls aside and tells us, "I know I hear laughter and you guys are having fun. But there is a certain level you have to be to play here." Felt disrespected and for the record we where playing a lot faster than the people behind us. Guess we didn't dress the part or look the part. Dunno gold if suppose to be fun and no way we are trying out for the PGA. Rude rude rude
Love the renewal project.
I'm really enjoying all the renovation that has been done and look forward to the opening of the back llne in a week or so. Great job!
lizzief,
Thank you for your feedback about the course. The back nine tees are now open. Hopefully we will see you back soon.

They are Redoing Deep Cliff.
Back 9 only open. Shorter and Dryer Holes. Greens good.
Excellent for the Price!

Too hot to play golf
The course was good considering there are still plenty of work or renovation going on.
Fun, Short Course Receives a Long-needed Renovation
First of all, this is my first review. I may go into way to much detail or rate a bit inaccurately, as I haven't really thought about what I would rate other courses.
This course has always been a favorite for me. I have been playing here since I was very little, and regardless of what other course I would go to on the weekends, this was always where I would practice during the week because of its convenient location. When I heard that it was being renovated properly, I was overjoyed, as over the years, they have made a lot of bandaid fixes that only lasted a short time and didn't do any long term good for the course. Being confined to the back nine for around a month and a half was somewhat annoying, but it was well worth the result of the renovation. The front nine has been given all new tee boxes, new bunkers, and new cartpaths. One of main complaints from the past was the fact that when the tee boxes were beat up, they would put new sod in, but then have people hit off it immediately, and within a few days, it was completely ruined. On six of the nine holes on the front nine, synthetic grass has been added to allow the tees to grow back. The only holes where these are not present are 1, 5, and 9, with 1 and 9 being par fours. These tees are currently in use for another week or so to let the new grass really take root in the ground. The bunkers have also been improved greatly. Some have been redone, some have been moved, and some have been totally removed. In all cases, it seems to have been for the better. New paved cartpaths have been added in many places to replace the old gravel ones as well. However, other than around the greens and the tee boxes, the grass is suffering from the drought (which isn't a problem if you go for all of the par 4s :) )
This course is a lot of fun to practice on for a few reasons. Five out of the six par fours have the opportunity to be driven, including all three on the front nine. The par threes are great because they range from finesse wedge shots to long irons or even woods for shorter hitters. My personal favorite stretch of the front nine is 6-8. Six is a drivable par four that includes a blind tee shot which curves around Stevens Creek. The new fairway bunker has made this hole even more fun. Seven is a 120-yard par three over water with a heavily sloping back to front green. It's quite fun to see wedge shots spin all the way across the green or have putts make 90-degree turns before going in the hole. Eight is a nice 100-yard par three where a player can go for a birdie.
At Deep Cliff, there are two practices greens. One is extremely small and is not used much. It is located right next to the pro shop. I would not recommend practicing there. The other is pretty large and is located next to the first tee. There is ample room near it to hit chips from, but since it isn't that busy usually, you don't have to worry about getting conked on the head by an errant pitch shot. There is also a third practice green with two bunkers near hole 16 that is only open to lessons. The range has ~10 stalls and is only 30 yards long before it hits a net. It is perfect for getting loose at the beginning of the round, but not so great if you want to see the full ball flight.
All in all, Deep Cliff is a great course to come down to and get in some good practice. It is not that long and great for beginners, and there are also many programs for juniors. I have been coming there to practice for years, and I really enjoy it.

Best greens in Santa Clara County!
I've played Deep Cliff for years, I have seen the rise and fall. I understand they hired a new greenskeeper, it shows!!! The greens were the best I've ever seen. The tees and fairways were kinda beat up, I understand we are in a drought, but hopefully have a good winter. This course would benifit greatly with proper watering. The food, and it's service was very poor! The guy took my money, and turned around and prepared my breakfast w/o washing his hands..... My burrito went directly into the trash! Will definitely be back to enjoy those greens again soon!!
golfgod67914,
Thank you for your review of the course and F&B. All of our Cafe employees have completed safe food handling courses and now wear gloves when preparing food. I am sorry to hear about your experience last time you visited the course. We have recently renovated all 18 holes with new tees and bunkers. Please let me know if you are interested in coming back out to play. We hope to see you soon.

work work work
Every tee box was destroyed for repaurs. Yardage signs were obviously wrong due to the make shift tees. They said on the website that they're closing down a half the course so the other half will be playable but the half that they had open was not playable at all the best thing about this course was the greens and even those were really tattered and very bumpy.
ninerguy82,
Thank you for your review. We have just completed the renovation of all of our tees and bunkers. The greens are also in great shape. We would love to have you back out so you can experience the new Deep Cliff. Please let me know if you are interested.

Basically an 18 hole executive course
First off, if you have a driver carry over 250, chances are that you're going to leave the big stick in the bag. That being said, for what it is, this is a fun little course. None of the holes are really that challenging but a few do force you to make some smart choices as a golfer. Even if you miss, this course isn't really going to bite you too badly. The staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. Overall, if you're look for a quick, easy 18, this course will play just fine for you. If you're looking to work on your game and improve your tactical ability, I'd suggest looking for something a bit harder.
convenient location, but course continues to disappoint
The front 9 is being renovated (yay! -- it's sorely overdue), so we were confined to the back 9. It was very backed up so pace was slow. Green conditions were very good, but the tee boxes were terrible. I'm not a huge fan of this course because it's largely been about one step up from trying to golf in a random field or forest somewhere. Maybe the renovations will make it better (?). For playing 9 holes, I prefer Blackberry Farm just down the road.
u000006796883,

Very comfortable course
I've played this course several times. Being a novice player I find this course challenging enough to have fun as well as improving my abilities.
The staff has kept the course in good condition for being in such a drastic drought.. Greens are good and the fairways in good condition.
The staff was very friendly and instructive.
This course has really gone down.
The tee boxes are mostly sand. The fairways are dry. I know the drought has a lot to do with it. The greens were fine.
Drought Damaged but still Fun
Deep Cliff is and has been a place my girlfriend and I keep coming back to. The price is right for the course, even more so when using GolfNow to book. The drought has sapped all water from this course so fairways look awful and the tee boxes are a mess. The greens are kept well and pace of play could be improved. (we went on a Sunday...it was pretty slow).
The first tee is a short Par 4 under 260 yards with a slight dog leg right. Bunkers to the right and left of the green. Easy to make Birdie or even Eagle if you can land on the green from the tee box.
2nd hole is nice with a slight left of tee pin placement. There is no back stop or sand traps, but the fairway is hard pack dirt and little grass.
3rd hole is short but you have to navigate a few bunkers and a small creek.
4th hole is nice and elevates perhaps 30 feet from tee box to green with a bunker on each side. I find using a 7 or 6 gets me to the green.
5th hole is straight away with a hill to the left. Bounce your shot off of the left hill and you will be great. Slicing right will endanger the 6th tee box.
6th hole is the "longest" and slice shots are gone into the creek. If you can keep it left to right, you will find 2 sand traps and an easy to manage green for birdie or par.
7th hole has the most difficult green, placed on a hill. I have birdied this hole before and you need to really see the green and lie to make a decent putt.
8th hole is straight away with a shallow bunker to the left. Hooking shots = lost golf balls.
9th hole is another Par 4, but this one is easily reachable from a decent driver or 3 wood from the tee.
10th hole is short and similar to hole 2.
11th hole is another par 4, dog leg left. Drive about 150 yards out but keep the ball left and close to the tree line, then up and down shot to the pin. This green is rock hard.
12th Hole is another par 4, big wide open fairway. Great hole with a few bunkers to navigate.
13th hole is like hole 10 but a few yards longer. 5 iron or 6 would suffice.
14th hole is just like hole 13.
Hole 15 is great because this is a true par 4 hole. Long sloping tee box to a valley below (I exaggerate) but reachable in 2 shots for birdie or Par.
Hole 16 and 17 are very very short. Pitching or Sand wedge.
18th hole is just like hole 4 but a lil shorter.
Great place to play, we need rain!!!
I am very sorry to learn about your recent experience at Deep Cliff. Thank you for bringing this situation to my attention. Clearly we have an issue with one of our Marshals. We want everyone who plays the course to have a fun and safe experience. It sounds like we failed to do that for your group. Please contact me directly if you are interested in coming back to the course so we can improve your experience and change your opinion of Deep Cliff and our staff.
