Really Fun Track
I always enjoy playing WR. Hard enough to be challenging, yet forgiving enough to let you score well if you play well.
I've played there roughly a half dozen times now and have enjoyed every round.
If you're in the area, definitely give it a play.
Visually Stunning Test
Wild Rock is a visually stunning test that is not for the faint of heart. Wide enough fairways to be playable but punishing if you miss them. Cool bunkering that requires thought navigation. Friendly staff with Halfway House after #5 & #9. Not playable for the beginning golfer (they have a short course on property). Biggest area for improvement is on cart GPS. They need to update their technology so that the pin location is synced up.
Beautiful Course—but a few things need attention
Great day on the course today. WILDROCK is my favorite course in the state. Today—-a very warm day ....only one beverage cart. With Covid changing how we do things, there is no water on the course...so you are dependent on the beverage cart. She was working hard, but definitely needed more training——she took WAY TO LONG to get beverages.....while foursomes are piling up behind us.
And then.....at the peak of the heat this afternoon—-she has not Powerade/Gatorade or Water. If you can’t have water on the course, then more water needs to be for sale on the course.
Other than that——the cart staff was great!!! From our arrival to departure, every one of the staff was moving and making things happen. Appreciated that.
Love It!
The course layout is outstanding. It starts tough, lightens-up a bit, gets tough at the start of the back nine, and gives you a chance on the last three holes to finish strong with a legit shot at an eagle on 17 (short par 4) if you care to use driver or a 3 wood to drive the green or be left with a short pitch shot. The views are wonderful. Staff is great. Pace of play was helped by the ranger kicking the group ahead of us forward one hole which was much needed (bachelor party that turned into a 5-some). The fairways do have a number of divots and it would be helpful if people actually repaired them. Yet, they are generous and I found that even partially errant shots usually ended-up being playable. The reviews here about the course being water-logged are a bit overdone in my view. Yes, that was the case in certain areas but it didn't impact play at all AND the greens were receptive so if you know your numbers and can plant it, good. None of my shots plugged anywhere on the course. The complaining about the greens having too many shelfs is ridiculous. This is a nod to how greens were designed eons ago and although it adds to the challenge, so what? Get over it. Take the time to enjoy the views and the wild life. I really couldn't believe how spectacular this setting was until I got on the property.
Little Gimicky
Better put it tight because you won’t be making many putts over 3 feet. Bunkers in middle of fairway on 3-4 holes, center bunker blocking many approach shots. Greens are a little too mini-golf for my liking. Used to like this course more than I do now. Stop watering the course when it doesn’t need it. No roll on drives and multiple plugged balls on the greens. Lots to like, but these are the things that make it a little gimicky.
Great value
Very scenic and well maintained course. 2020 specials make it tremendous value. No doubt top 20 public play course in Wisconsin.
Maniacal Greens
Played the course Saturday with my brother. Beautiful layout, challenging to say the least. I did not enjoy the greens. They are maniacal. Hole 8 had a pin placement in the back of the green where the green itself fell off 12 feet from the middle. Based on speed of greens no way to get a putt close to the pin. It stayed that way all day. Perhaps pin placements for the day but I never see greens on the PGA tour that are set up like these. Made the round more challenging than it needed to be. Also no sand in the traps. Got in one that was all pebbles. Another that had no sand (parking lot firmness). For what I paid course could have been in better shape.
Slow and rough
5 hour round on a Monday morning. Our foursome followed a twosome with one set of rental clubs between them. Waited on EVERY shot. The gal could not have broken 200. They had no right being on this course. The course was absolutely drenched and not from recent rains. Our drives were plugging as we were sloshing around the fairways. This course gets alot of play and it shows it. Might try again in the fall when the tourists are gone.
A First Class Experience
Quite simply one of the best public golf courses in all the Midwest and an absolute steal at $70. Diabolical green and very difficult pin placement. Amazing elevation and shots must be shaped. Fair but not easy. Struggled on the front, 48. Much better on back with 43. 91 not so bad here. Its beautiful. Staff were very friendly. This is a must play in Wisconsin and was an absolute joy to play.
Course in great shape
The course was in great shape. Everyone who works at the course were friendly and professional
Great fun course
Beautiful day and course. Pace was very good. Will definitely play again soon.
Course in Rough Shape
Greens were aerated, several holes were being de-thatched, and the tee boxes were terrible as they were worn and not level. Usually excited to golf this course each year for our family vacation. But this year was a bit of a diappointment.
One of my favorite courses
Always a joy to play at Wild Rock. Solid course, yet scoreable. Great views even when the golf isn't going so well.
Great greens
Great place. Great greens. Challenging greens. Variety of golf holes. I will continue to drive 2 hrs several times a year to play here. On par with a Lawsonia Links course and Troy Burne.
