Unexpected issue
Greens were aerated. Very surprising for July. No one bothered to mention it to us
Good track
Got 2” of rain night before round it was cart path only which it should have been.
Great Views, Average Staff, Terrible Setup
The course is great with excellent views, that is undeniable. Unique holes with some challenging shots.
The staff was average at best. 1) Bag drop staff had no idea if there were water jugs on course, in the middle of July. 2) The starter was a jerk. Asked if we had a tee time (lol no buddy, we just drove the quarter mile from the clubhouse for fun), and I replied, "Yup, either 8:22 or 8:20; can't remember specifically." In which I was met with a scoff and, "Well I can tell you right now it's not 8:22."....Okay dude, my bad. That's why I gave you two times.
Lastly, the pin locations were bordering PGA difficulty. Everyone set next to a tier or on a major slope. I'm 6 handicap according to USGA and even for me it was frustrating. You are a resort golf course; no one wants to play a course like that on vacation.
Great Course - Great Value
Wild Rock is a great course with a beautiful scenery. Greens can be very challenging. Great value if you are staying at the Wilderness Hotel.
All time Favorite
This course is my all time favorite. I play this course a couple times a year and have for over a decade. In the summer during a vacation with the kids I sneak out for a first tee time round and again in the fall on guys golf trip. The course is demanding but fair and the conditions are always spectacular. The views are the best in the Midwest and prices are outstanding for what you get. I’ve seen deer, raccoons, skunks, hawks, bald eagles, cranes and turkeys on the course. If you ever get a chance to play here do it you won’t be disappointed!!!
Nice course but SLOW pace of play
The course was in good shape overall and well laid out. Provided for some fun challenges. The only significant deficiency was that the pace of play was extremely slow. Over 5 hours for our round. 3 groups were occasionally in the same tee box being held up by a very slow group ahead. I had expected, especially given the upscale nature and cost of the coarse, that there would have been a ranger to help police play and keep it moving at a reasonable pace. Detracted from the experience, and affected my rating.
Castle Rock
Course was in excellent condition and had many challenging holes
Loved the course
We had a great day at Wild Rock. All staff were very accommodating.
I don't golf but my family members do and they love the course.
Beautiful Challenge
Beautiful course to take in Wisconsin for the first time. It was extremely challenging! Beautiful scenery all over! Weather definitely impacted the day making it cart path only. They couldn’t control that aspect, but it made the day harder. Starter, Dwaine, was extremely kind! Would certainly play again if we visit the Dells again. Hole 6 was an amazing view!
Very cool course!
Played this course for the first time and it was awesome. Very cool course, very scenic. Saw tons of wildlife. The holes were interesting and challenging. The only complaint was the greens weren’t real fast and some had been aerated recently so it affected your putts. Other than that would definitely go and play again. The rest of the course was in beautiful condition.
Poor greens
Normally the greens on Wild Rick are beautiful but the there were bad spots all about and it seemed the pin-cutter decided to place the holes right in the middle of bad areas. I was disappointed. Maybe lots of rain? Other area courses were in better shape. They also had top-dressed (some?) of the greens but I was surprised that the holes remained, not filled by the top dressing. Just a disappointment from a superior course.
Really!?
Maybe in honor of The (British) Open, every pin but one was tucked near the edge of the green and a few paces from water or other disaster. Hard to have a good time when the pins aren’t even remotely accessible. I won’t be back.
Pace of play
Should not take 5 hours to play. Group in front of us would not tee off until the group in front of them were on the gree. Even on the par fives. There was no ranger.
Course was in amazing condition.
The greens, fairways, and tee boxes were in excellent shape. The only issue I had was that several greens were recently aerated and a little bumpy. Also, several tee boxes were undergoing maintenance repairs. Still, the course was in great shape and I am looking forward to returning.
