Greens are fine Photo submitted by Andy2045205 on 11/25/2012
3rd time I've played here
I really like this course but this is the worst condition I've seen. Still very playable, just not as attractive to the eye. I'll go ahead and blame the heat for the fairways being spotty in places, I assume there's a root fungus. Give yourself improved fairway lies and play on. The greens were aerated about 3 weeks ago but they were fine, no complaints, and faster than I've played in a month. I love the views and terrain (sometimes) and I'd play it again for the price.
Good but it could be Great..
Excelent course, amazing views!! Was a 100 degrees and there we never saw the cart girl.. no ice or water on the machines in the course.. the proshop told us the cart girls was working until noon, but we tee of at 9:36 and never saw her.. almost deshidrated myself, and has my first 18 holes without a beer!
Arizona National
Really great layout, staff was great, one of the longest rounds of my life! No Marshalls, 5 hours, may never go back…
Rough conditions
In fairness, the first few times I played Arizona National the conditions were much better. However, this most recent round the course was nearly unplayable. Granted the prices were much lower, but the conditions were such that the course should not have been open. The staff was very hospitable but gave no indication that the course was in such bad shape.
As I play a few times a week, I believe I have a good grasp of what conditions should be. I would suggest Arizona National closing until after re-seeding later this year.
course is in bad condition
We played on July 7th and the course was in very poor shape. Fairways had many bare/dirt areas with very little good fairway grass. Roughs were just as bad. We constantly had to move our balls to try and find some sort of grass to hit off of. The sand traps were in very bad condition....poor quality sand and rock hard. The course was not manicured. The greens were OK though they were not smooth after being aerated recently. Very surprising given this is a Troon course...not up to their standards at all Over all, given the reputation of the course, very very disappointing. I normally play a Saddlebrooke HOA2's Preserve and Mountainview courses (also Troon courses) and they are spectacular compared to this course right now.
Good Time
The last couple of years this course has had issues during the heat of summer. Not sure if it is the oversees choking out the Bermuda or not. Still a great place to play.
Old Pueblo Kings Coach
Coarse fairways were not in the greatest shape but knowing the Az weather it’s understandable. The greens were bumpy but that was after they had been worked on. Az National is one of my favorite golf courses. It was nice to play that course
Don't play
No Marshall we waited ten minutes on every box! Greens were bumpy and the Fairways were all tore up. We ended up quitting on 16 after 5 hrs. We played this course once before and it was 100% better. This time around you can see lack of maintenance and we'll lack of everything. Oh and the restaurant closed at 3pm on a Saturday? Good lord I tell ya.
Summer golf
The fairways were in fairly bad shape. Lots of dead grass and then overwatered areas with mud. Greens were being aerated.
Sad disrepair
I have played Arizona National when it is at its best and it is a very nice treat.
Unfortunately they had aerated the greens, they painted them so that they would look like greens. They were tilling the rough right around us. There were lots of dry spots in the fairways. The bunkers were inconsistently bad, some had good sand, some were hard and bold.
I wish they had warned us of the course conditions.
Love this course!
Great layout.
You have to think about where to hit, take a few lay ups and place the ball well to score here.
But what a lot of fun!
Only negative is the greens are recovering from being punch. Only a couple were rally bumpy and most were true and quick.
Will only get better as they heal.
BTW is was a hot!!! Day.
