The Legends at Orange Lake Resort
About
Orange Lake Resort & Country Club in Kissimmee boasts four different golf courses, two championship courses and two nine-hole layouts. Undoubtedly, the most popular course is the Legends. This Arnold Palmer-designed layout is like getting two courses in one. The front nine is a traditional links that is wide-open and windy, which makes club selection particularly challenging. It is a good warm-up for the even more demanding back nine. On the backside, you will be playing through mature oaks and towering pine trees that border the lush, winding fairways. It is quite a feat to successfully maneuver your tee shots through the narrow openings of the trees, which gives it the feel of a course in North Carolina. The signature hole is the 13th. This daunting hole features a large green that is shielded by a rock wall, surrounded by tall grass, and protected in back by a sand trap.

First time... Will return
First time playing here. Fun course, friendly staff, and plenty of driving (the cart). Long distances between holes. Course was in pretty shape. Over all we enjoyed it,
2 For 1 Special
Found A Great Deal On eSouthernGolf.com 2 Rounds For $98 With Cart. The Course Is Just Fine & The Back 9 Is Fun & Challenging With Multiple Must Carry Over Water Greens. Suckers who don't research & pay $130 per round might be disappointed. Played The 1st round Solo on 3/9 @ 1:09pm in 3 1/2 Hours. I Used My Second Round On 3/10 @ 7:27am & Played With 3 Others in 4 Hours Flat. What More Do You Want. Find A Deal & Swing Away!!!
Disappointing
Greens were awful...from the putting green through the whole course. Course condition in general wasn't great. Can see how people would enjoy it if it was in good shape, as the layout/holes are ok. Resort wide in many places, but some tighter shots too. Smallish greens for the most part
Keep your eyes on the reviews, and if the conditioning improves it is fine.
Good Course but Expensive!
Got a good price from GolfNow hot deals. I won't pay the regular price of over US$100 pp. Fairways were in good conditions but greens were super fast and tough to putt. Nice lay out with friendly staff. Will return with similar GN good deals.
STAY AWAY!!!!
This course is by far in the worst condition I've ever played and to add insult to injury it cost my 10 year old son and I $180 to play!!!
We played it last year and it was in decent shape. I wasn't all that eager to play it again but it was my sons favorite son we went back this year.
We played on 3/6/2016. Since my son is a junior I always call the Proshop for tee times to take advantage of junior pricing for greens fees. I looked on the website before calling and I could have gotten a tee times for 2 for $59/round. I called the Proshop and got a tee time for me and my son. I received an email confirmation for $119 so I thought fair enough. When we arrived and checked in we had to wait at least 10 mins for the pro to return to the Proshop to check us in and we he told me $180 I questioned him telling him my email confirmation said $119. He said that was just for me and my son was the balance!
Long story short I've been playing about 20 rounds a year in FL over the last 20 years and this was the worst experience by far than any other!
I'd take you money and play Orange County National, Reunion resort course, Southern Dunes, etc. before ever teeing it up here again!!!!
Very disappointing
I have been an owner at Orange Lake for over 30 years and have to go to GolfNow to get the best rates to play here! The course is in below average shape... fairways are spotty, greens have very little grass on them. Putting is terribly difficult because the greens are so bad. Took 4 1/2 hours to play. I can't recommend this to anyone, and that disappoints me because I remember how it used to be.
COURSE HAS TROUBLE
Save your money!!! the greens are terrible, dried out ,bumpy, sparse grass..look at the putting green before you pay this way over priced course, its worth maybe 25-30.00 if you want to spend time time with the kids...Even the bag boys apologized to us for the conditioning saying the operator of the course is just sucking everything out of it and not spending any money on conditioning..We played their 3yrs ago and was great...the four of us at 4-7 handi-cappers were very dissapointed for the money we spent so save yours...
New management
Disappointed, b/c course is not up to it's previous standards. A shame. Arnold Palmer would not be proud of what has happened.
Extremely low pace of play combined with lack of action by staff
We were behind a group of 40 and I expressed concern to the course at the start of the round. They promised there was a great ranger that would help enforce pace of play. Well, 6 hours later, it was clear they failed. At the turn, I talked about it again with the pro shop and they expressed little concern, just stating that "well, there are a lot of golfers out there today." This was a shame b/c the course is great. Was extremely disappointed by the staffs lack of action to try to remediate this issue.
New Owners, Less Care?
I played this course last year and loved it, (despite the very difficult first and last holes!) but this year I thought the condition was less good than before. The fairways looked a bit parched, the greens looked a little bare.
Some of my companions have played here several times and have noted a gradual decline in standards in recent times from superb to merely good, which is a great shame for such a great layout.
Having said that, I enjoyed the experience but I wonder what my next visit will bring.
Deteriorating Masterpiece
I play a fair amount of golf back home and am also a part of maintaining a very nice golf course. My family and I have been vacationing at Orange Lake for over 15 years and this course has always been in perfect condition. However, this year, the greens were very disappointing. They were slow, thin, bumpy, inconsistent and generally in poor shape. The practice green, which is the first thing a golfer uses to form an impression, was weedy, slow and in poor shape. On the day of our round, the sand traps were not raked with foot prints everywhere. The roughs surrounding the greens were non-existent, so non-existent that we essentially putted off of them. The T-boxes and fairways were also thin and weedy as well. If you’re traveling to Florida and plan to play this course I would pick a different one until they get it back into shape. For the money, over $100 a round, it's not worth it.
Beautiful course
Legends was better than I expected. Fairways were a bit thin, but not bare. Greens were outstanding, smooth and just the right speed. All the holes have wonderful characteristics. 15, 16, 17 & 18 are great finishing holes with opportunity for birdies, but be careful of the water and sand. #9 is all you can handle with a carry over water to a green tucked right behind it. Got a great early morning rate and highly recommend.
Golfball
Outstanding course that gets a lot of play. Some thin fairway grass in spots Greens are ok also Pace of play was slow but resort type play is why
senior golfer
Course in good shape. Greens were good shape for this time of the year. Fast and somewhat hard to read. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
A fine course
A fine course with friendly staff and a good track with sand, water and some challenges.
Poor Weather..But Good Conditions
Well to start with I'm reviewing this course based not on the weather or my bad playing but on how the course actually faired. To start with the airline put my clubs on the wrong plane so I had to play rentals which I despise doing, and of course they didn't disappoint, I couldn't hit them worth a dime. This course was in great shape after the day before the skies wouldn't stop dumping the rain. The fairways had no bounce and the greens were a little slow due to the moisture, but overall the course conditions were great due to that fact, it seems like it drains very well. I will also say I got a great rate on golfnow.com for $25 when the clubhouse rate is $109..which I find to steep for this course. Also, the rental clubs were $47 and not in great shape at all. So I feel like I still came out with somewhat of a deal. Overall this is a great layout with a lot of distance between green and tee, very challenging with a lot of water and sand. I would love to play this layout again when I have my own sticks and its not raining. I'll be back.
Nice layout
The course is a nice layout with wide fairways. A little expensive for guests. You can get a good deal on golfnow.com
good value with golf now
Course was definitely a great value at 54 dollars. Not worth the posted green fee of $109. Outside staff very friendly. Inside guy. not so much. Loved the layout and the condition.
Just Ok
Got a deal on LastMinjuteGolf for $25. This made the round worth the experience. The $119 would not have been worth it. I realize the market sets the rates but do not expect a course on par with those in Illinois and Michigan for the same money. Rental clubs cost $49 plus tax and are the worse set of rental clubs I have ever seen. After big rain 2 nights previously, this course drained well and ball could roll forever, but, it is hard to get the club under the ball. Traps were generally hard, somewhat gravely. We made the turn thinking we would get a hotdog and go. No hotdogs. Ordered a turkey sandwich; 45 minjutes later we were back on the course. I hink the course is pretty and some interesting holes. Hole are spread out well and cart paths paved. Housing is generally blocked by vegetation along the course.
My son and I played on the same day and agree 100% with this review. The bag boys told us the same thing!!!! Too many good options in the area for far less money to ever play here again!!!!
