Great Day At Stonebridge Photo submitted by Brian9256097 on 04/17/2018
As John McEnroe would say, "You can't be serious!!!"
Booked via GolfNow for what seemed to be a good rate #<$30# but in hindsight, would have gladly paid more for a better experience.
Had to argue with pro shop staff about renting just a bag for wife's clubs that we had brought with us since most places don't carry women's left-handed 1.5 inches shorter than normal. My rental set was pretty dinged up but was glad that I pulled out the putter to take a couple of putts before starting as the top half of the grip was ripped off. Pro shop swapped out club after I walked in to show it to her. She commented, "You know these are rentals right?" #Seriously, you knowingly rent clubs with half a grip?#
Started round and quickly caught group in front of us #a 5-some# who let us play through #Highlight of the day# Course has lots of construction going along canals on front nine so be ready for noise and some "fragrant" smells where we found mud holes and standing water on several holes.
Caught up to a single player on hole 7 who we joined up with. Group in front of him was also a 5-some with no clue as to golf etiquette. Despite us driving up fairly close behind them on remaining front 9 holes, they never let us play thru while constantly having members of their group spread out over 150+ yards. They had no concept of playing ready golf and we repeatedly saw one element play onto the green and putt, then put the flag back in for another member to play their approach/chip up...BIZARRE!
Mentioned issues at the turn to clubhouse but to no avail. Never saw a marshal or beverage cart the entire round. What had been at least a fast moving round turned into a 5 hr. + ordeal.
When we turned cart and clubs back in commented again to staff to which we just got a shoulder shrug as our response. Leaving we saw what seemed to be several other groups getting ready to play at the 10th tee box. Turned out to be a 6-some starting their back 9. #Stayed long enough to watch them all tee off...Most had on just plain tee-shirts and one member was actually using balls "procured" from the range...he joked about it since he put 2 balls in the pond bordering the 10th fairway#
For a course in a gated private community I was very disappointed. Would have rather fought traffic and driven over to North Shore or Mississippi to play.
Sorry Stonebridge but you won't see me ever again.
Fall is fall
Facilities are excellent and the day was beautifull bot low and behold the greens ha recectly been aireated and sanded.
Stoned
Range was closed, so range balls not included. On description it says carts have GPS.. But there was no gps.. Very disappointed
Great condition very satisfied
Course was in very good condition. Nice layout with some challenging holes
Stonebridge
Front nine still under construction. Only irons allowed on range. No beverage carton a very hot day. Enjoyed the course challenges. Greens in good condition. Bunkers could use some new sand.
Golf
Great course would plau again and will tell I these got behind a foursome and it was two of us they did not let us play thru and we met up with them on hole 7 and we finished in four hours other than that was great value..
course needs tons of work
I used to play here and thought it was in decent shape. However, the last time I came out, the course was in terrible condition. I'm not from the area, so I don't know if all the work around there are planned renovations for the course. A lot of digging going on. It's in a nice neighborhood and I like the layout, but because of the poor condition, the golf was not enjoyable.
bunkers need sand
ongoing construction on the drainage canal 1/2 and 3 holes are a noisy and dusty problem.
Fun course
Very playable and open, better than average greens. Some greens are better than others tho speed is inconsistent.
Best Bang for your buck
Had another fun round at Stonebridge yesterday. As always, the staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. There was a tournament, but I was allowed to go off early on number ten and enjoyed a comfortable pace of play, joining up with a local partway through the round. The course isn't pristine, but it's interesting and relatively challenging. Free range balls are a bonus. It's a great place to play and practice.
Best Deal in NOLA
If you like friendly, helpful staff, free practice balls, a decent course, and a bargain price, Stonebridge is the one. I have now played three times at Stonebridge. It's not the best course in the area, but it's relatively challenging and interesting to play. While the greens are not great, it's early in the season, so perhaps they'll get better. The people are what makes the place. No attitude given, even when you book a hot deal, arrive early, or, as in my case, bring the wife along to take pictures. My " go to" place in NOLA.
Not well maintained
Course fairways were sandy and lacked maintenance. I understand it is winter but played Audibon the day before and wasn't thrrilled with the course but it was much cheaper so expected.
Great way to experience the city
I loved that this course took you through the city and had a lot of culture. If you're in a hurry, this might not be your course on the weekend. It played nice with wide fairways and relatively soft greens.
Medium prices dead grass
The course was dormant decent layout some of the holes pretty generic
Greens were dead although the dirt on them rolled pretty true. I do not understand why they did not plant any winter grass on the greens and tee boxes. If they had done that probably would be a decent tract seems like there is no money too keep up the facility
Great value
While the clubhouse and other features were under renovation, I was pleasantly surprised! Had it not been for the six members starting on 10 as I was making the turn, (yes, all six of them played a two team scramble and did not allow me to play through) I would've rated the course higher.
Review on stonebridge GC as of 1-25-2015
The overall experience was good for the money. But There is construction along the canal that parallels holes 1-3. Also, some of the bunkers are mostly dirty sand. The greens were not properly maintained. I prefer the north course at city park.
Goat Lot, don't bother
I payed $70 to play this pasture. I have never seen so much crabgrass on a golf course in my life. Crabgrass on the fairways and greens, the course looks like a tired old dog. Everything at this place is run down and/or under construction. The surrounding neighborhood is in similar condition, until you get to the back 9 where the houses look to be better cared for. The photos of the course on their website must have been taken DECADES ago and do not come close to reflecting what this course appears like when you get there. It was so bad I felt compelled to write a review which I have never done before for any course. Save your money. I even got poison ivy on my ankles playing this course and I shot 75 so it was not like a spent time in the trees.
Nice Course
Course was in pretty good shape except for some weeds on a few greens and some construction on the first couple of holes. Playing it for the Hot Deal tee time price made it a high value outing. All in all, I give the course a B rating.
StoneBridge
The course's driving range is short so only irons allowed. The sand in the bunkers is in great condition. The course does have some construction going on so cart paths were a little hard to follow. Fairway bunkers had rocks in them which was about the only real bad thing.
Overall the course is challenging with water and the bunker placements. Some tight house fairways.
