Great Day At Stonebridge Photo submitted by Brian9256097 on 04/17/2018
This course is in great shape
My partner and I was very happy with this outing.
Keep up the good work Stonebridge
Greens inconsistent
Greens on front nine were OK; back nine horrible. It also seemed that watering was inconsistent causing some shots to plug while others ran out.
work in progress
The course was being worked on. Traps by the greens are being filled with sand and most traps are being filled in. The greens are not good right now.
Bad Course
We played this course because it looked good on the internet. However we were greatly disapponinted. The course is over priced for the condition it was in. We had to miss certain holes because the course was under repair. In spike of that we were sill charged full price. The sand traps had grass growing in them, the fairway were just fair. The greens were just ok and did not putt well.We won't play this course again.
great course
Excellent course for the value. Great staff. The fairways are a little rough but the are good and a challenging course for a beginner.
My Course
I am not a member, but this course is located less than half a mile from my house, so it's the one I play most often. My latest round was with my golf group, a club tournament, but I normally play here several times a month. Stonebridge has undergone many changes over the years, a re-do, flipping of the first 2 nines and then back again, and numerous changes in the golf professionals and management. Through it all, the course itself has done OK. The re-do has it draining relatively well. The fairways are mostly good, the greens are iffy. They may or may not be cut well, and there are a few greens with some tough spots on them. The layout is pretty flat and at just under 7000, it's not too terribly long from the tips. Due to the nature of the routing through a neighborhood, there isn't much drama to the course - there are a lot of pretty straight lines; only the par 4 17th hole bends more than 25*. Scoring opportunities abound, starting with the short par 4 second hole and highlighted by the 520 par-5 15th hole which is fairly often reachable in 2 for better players. Bring extra golf balls - there is either OB or water (and often both) on all but one hole on the course. There are some narrow fairways as well. They also offer a third nine holes, the Harvey nine, across a canal from the "main" course. Originally marketed as a 27-hole venue, the third nine is much shorter than the others and puts more a premium on target golf. Often, the maintenance on that nine isn't as good as the regular 18. The value on this course is good; they understand they are not a destination course and they are priced reasonably. Currently, there is a project to armor the walls of the canal that runs adjacent to the first 3 holes and separates the middle 3 holes of the front nine from the others, as well as separating the Harvey 9 from the rest of the course. This will make for some difficulties playing along the first 3 holes for the remainder of this year and likely into next year. Overall, I like the place because it's my home. It's tough for people like me who tend to not be so straight, but it's not so tough as to not be good golf.
Sucks
The allow full retail players to be booked between tournaments behind groups that take 15mins per hole. Bunkers has grass growing inside the hard sand. I wouldn't even consider them bunkers. Overall a sad course. Maybe management changed.
Poor green conditions
The course has too much potential and is too good to have greens in that condition. Crab grass and thatch all over. Rest of he place was fine.
Rained out
Course has a few places under repair but all in all a good place to play, unfortunately we were rained out but will be back soon
Improvements needed
This could be a very nice course, but the conditions need to change. Greens, while evenly cut, were a little long and contained plenty of weeds (crows feet). Sand traps needs to be totally redone, ridiculous amount of grass/weeds. Even at $10/round (what a deal!), it wasn't worth it, sorry to say. No rec, until improvements made.
Great facility
Course is challenging. Definitely an obstacle riddled course, but it makes you focus on shot selection. Very enjoyable. Staff is great. Carts are new.
Jeers: Even with the construction on the canal. Its only temporary and . Range has a 200 yd max. Otherwise it would have 5 stars across the board. Golf now has good deals.
One Time
Lay out was good. Bunkers were terrible due to water and very little sand. Greens were being aerated but would not have been that good anyway. Was not told about aeration. Would not recommend at this time.
Plugs
This course is a gem in the area near the Navy base. it's a 27 hole course and very well laid out. The upside is free range balls before and after your game, and two putting practice areas. the downside, no drivers on the range, the bunkers are hard packed dirt holes, some of the tee boxes could be evened out, its an odd feeling not driving off a level surface. on this particular day, they just got done with punching the greens, so they were bumpy. But a fun time.
Stonebridge almost great!
Course in grate shape except no sand in bunkers. If proper sand levels it would be 9.9(nothing gets a 10).
Did enjoy myself.
Has potential but needs some help
Paid 45 to play which was reasonable. Challenging front 9 and a back nine you can score on. Bunkers are in need of attention and were hard packed sand when we played making them effectively unplayable. It appeared that there was enough sand and simple maintenance raking might make them playable. Greens were inconsistent. Some were weedy some were water stressed. Again a little more basic maintenance would go a long way. The greens have good turf to work with so pay more attention to watering and spot treat the weedy sprouts. It's an interesting course at a good price close to the city. Improve a few basics and you have a gem
Good course but there are some maintenance issues.
I played at a very good rate but the sand traps were terrible, no sand, clay like dirt with overgrown grass. The greens were inconsistent and very slow. The 19th hole is good for drinks but there is no real food service available.
Course in great shape!
The course looked great and played great. The greens were a little slow and needed a little work but I really have no complaints.
played for $16.00 bucks
Sand traps were terrible, hard or overgrown with grass. The greens were consistent but consistently very slow. We played for a rock bottom price so for $16 bucks and a round of golf with buds and suds not bad. I wouldn't travel a great distance seeking it out for play but locally it's not bad. They also have an executive 9 that was I think in better shape than the 18 regular holes.
From the right tee's with a twenty five mile an hour wind it's a challenge. The big greens are the equalizer.
Anyone that plays golf these days knows all courses struggle at times. The last couple of times I played Stonebridge it was a bit ragged. 11/5/13 all positive. For the money, one of the best values in New Orleans.
Decent
My round of golf here was not bad considering how much I paid for it, but I would not play here unless I get a significant discount since the course is just maintained decently and it is farther from downtown New Orleans than I'd prefer when taking into consideration the whole experience.
