Timberlane Golf & Recreation
About
When Timberlane Golf & Recreation opened in 1959 as Timerlane Country Club, it was the first private golf club on the west bank of the Mississippi. The oaks planted at that time have beautifully matured, adding to both the scenery and difficulty of the golf course. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the course, crafting a challenging test that has been ranked as one of the most difficult golf courses in the country. You'll have to contend with 80 strategically placed sand bunkers and 17 different water hazards. While the course is not overly punishing, you'll have to be prepared to have every aspect of your game tested. Before tackling Timberlane''s golf course you may find it helpful to warm up using the club's all-grass driving range and you can use the large putting green to practice with putting, chipping, and sand play.

This is one of my local courses that I will play a few times a year. Normally, I wouldn't re-review a course unless there were major changes. The course is relatively unchanged. The layout hasn't been altered; several years back they reversed the nines, but that's been a while. Several reviewers say the staff has been less than cordial - that hasn't really changed. There are still spotty greens and some bare lies, but not so much on the fairways anymore. The major difference I see is the bunkers. Much as you don't want to be in them, the bunkers on this course are about at fair and nice as any around. They've done a decent amount of cosmetic work around the course - some obvious, some not so much. But the bunkers are absolutely notable.
This is still regular golf. No frills. Short course, tight fairways, hits off line are more times than not punch outs back into the fairway. Lots of OB. Water on a lot of holes, particularly on the back with a canal running through it, but not so much water in play on a ton of holes outside of wild shots. Honestly, not bad for what you pay to play it.
Course layout was nice
Greens need a lot of work. Proshop guy was not very helpful, Acted to me as if he really didnt want to be there.
Always a fun course!
The lady at the clubhouse isn't the most courteous person and several of the workers running machines on the course ignored our play.
A big distraction trying to play with a mower speeding back and forth!
Could use some help
Thos could br a good course. Greens are good, but fairwayz need some attention: no grass---just short cut weeds, clovers and clumps of misc "stuff." Additionally. The fairways are very bumpy. lumpy choppy and uneven. I was told the was all the result of a broken watering network system for the last 2 years---Cost to fix $30K. For an exclusive country club in an exclusive neighborhood this should be manageable and needs to be addressed.
golf course needs complete Reno or shut down
terrible course, whoever runs it should be fired. greens are bad, fairways has random holes everywhere. and lots of exposed tree roots anywhere near trees. fairways are hard so take a divot at your own risk. price is cheaper here than nearby courses so you pay for what you get. going forward, we'll just pay more and play a better course.
terrible conditions
greens are in bad shape, fairways are hard like rocks, exposed roots are everywhere near the trees. it's more of a goat ranch than a golf course, do yourself a favor, pay the few extra bucks and play nearby, English turn, city park south course or TPC. that's real golf. we won't be going there anymore.
Great course for the price!
For $36 per player on a Friday Morning, you can’t beat it. It’s a long course with an intermediate amount of challenges. Given the rare snow falls we had this past winter the course was in pretty decent shape. All in all we had a good time.
Nice course
Played hooky from work and decided to sneak a round in. Booked a tee time for 9:10 at $20. Couldn’t pass up the deal! I don’t like if your not a member you have to park outside the gate and walk in. Checked in and got my cart. Then drove out the gate to my car to load my clubs up. Got to the tee box and found another guy there waiting for the group ahead to play. Found out he head the same tee time as me and decided to play together. For a Tuesday at 9:10 in the morning it was pretty crowded. Had a foursome in front of us and a foursome behind us. Wondered the whole time if any of our bosses knew we weren’t actually sick and just wanted to play golf.... Course was in great condition. Had a pretty epic rainy day a few days ago and the course was dry minus one spot. Greens were in good shape as were the fairways. Like the layout hate the sand traps..... Will most definitely be going back. I
Definitely going back soon
Greens were in excellent shape. Fluffy first cut of rough. New pro shop and amenities.
All went well had one of my better games I shoot mid 80s that day o shot 78 bCk none went smooth when I came around the school kids were playing so it slowed me down a lot but the guy in the clubhouses did start me on 10 to allow the kids a chance to move on but didn’t work that but enjoyed it I sat on the side let the kids get ahead then I’d played a hole I finished and I’ll go there again
Timberlane review
Played Timberlane for first time in 35 years. Forgot how much I enjoyed that golf course. Great layout, not just one straight hole after the next as so often in this part of the world. Course only in fair shape, but after all, it's February.
Great practice tee and putting green.
Staff friendly and accommodating.
Highly recommended.
Not a well maintained course
The people were nice, we got a low price, and we finished in 3 hours, but the condition of the course was rough. I'd play there again only for a similarly I low price.
nice round
Course is in pretty good shape. We ended up playing the front nine twice. No starter or course official add in a smaller tournament and a single!! back nine was a nightmare. Fortunately after waiting 15 minutes on 10th tee box we made the jump and had a great nine. greens fast. I like this course
no cart person
Strange how the bar/restaurant was closed when we finished at 4pm on a Sat. So the only thing you get to drink was water after a hot day. And to top it off with no cart person the entire round, it was a little upsetting. I've never seen a club house lock the doors and turn out the lights at 4pm on Sat.
Play here!
This course even in winter is kept up well. I love it.
