Timberlane Golf & Recreation
About
When Timberlane Golf & Recreation opened in 1959 as Timerlane Country Club, it was the first private golf club on the west bank of the Mississippi. The oaks planted at that time have beautifully matured, adding to both the scenery and difficulty of the golf course. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the course, crafting a challenging test that has been ranked as one of the most difficult golf courses in the country. You'll have to contend with 80 strategically placed sand bunkers and 17 different water hazards. While the course is not overly punishing, you'll have to be prepared to have every aspect of your game tested. Before tackling Timberlane''s golf course you may find it helpful to warm up using the club's all-grass driving range and you can use the large putting green to practice with putting, chipping, and sand play.

Fairly easy course as long as you stay out of the trees.
Beautiful day on the course with the exception of pace of play and greens in need of attention. The course is not very difficult but the round took longer to play than it should have because of the slow play ahead of me. The course was also very crowded the day I played.
Customer Service
Overall good course when booked with a discount via GolfNow. Exception is the clerk/cashier handling the check in at the clubhouse. She needs to learn some serious people skills and curb the attitude. I am not the only player/customer that feels this way. This not a 1st time experience with this particular individual. Other staff have been friendly and accommodating.
Decent course
Good value for the money. A bit worn around the edges clubhouse / pro shop wise. But good course and a great deal.
Fairways and greens in excellent shape. Staff always friendly and accommodating. Excellent course
Great value.
Played this course a year ago. Seams as though most golf courses here are going down hill. What a difference in a year. Very good shape. Greens a little slow, but true. Excellent value using Golf Now.
Westbank gem
This course is one of the nicest in the NOLA area and is well kept. Fairways are in good condition. Greens are consistent. You won't be disappointed
Timberlane Country Club
Great course layout/routing. Tee boxes in good shape. Fairways and rough so so but very playable.
Greens much better than they used to be. Bunkers much better than they used to be. Nice chipping and putting green with good greenside bunker for practicing. Nice range with grass or artificial mats - your choice. Staff is fine with me walking front nine and taking cart for back nine. Excellent club sandwiches in restaurant. Great value when they post their $15.00 hot deal and still good for the $25 or $30 rates. Occasionally crowded but I played 18 holes in 3 hours yesterday walking the front and riding the back.
Great course!
This course was a great place to play. I enjoyed the challenge of the layout. The staff was very friendly and eager to assist in any way needed. The carts were some of the best I've seen around the area. Look forward to playing there again soon and more often. Thanks for a great day of golf!
Nice course
Real nice course
Back nine laid out a little funny, but ok
Real nice staff
Excellent value.
Nice design. Trees in alot of good places. You must hit different shots. For $20 Golfnow tough to beat.
Very Challenging for the Tee Shots
Tees and Fairways are in great shape. The greens are good just slower than what I'm used to. Lately I can't drive the ball strait so I found it very difficult. If you get out of position off the tee you will have a lot of trees to deal with. If you can drive it strait you can shoot a really good score.
"3rd Time's the Charm"
This was my 3rd time at Timberlane. For the 2nd time, I was able to get a great deal on the green fees through Golf Now: this is the reason I use it so often.
The golf course was in very good shape. It had rained heavily 2 days prior, but the course drains well and so the fairways and greens were in good shape. There was some soggy areas, but these were "here and there" and in the roughs.
Timberlane was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1959 and has a challenging, but playable layout. One disadvantage for big hitters is that many of the fairways are narrow, and the course has many out-of-bounds penalties related to this. So, if you're looking for a challenge to improve your drive accuracy and placement or if your an average golfer (like me) looking for a new course to play, I would recommend Timberlane. By the way, I had difficulty using Google Maps to locate the course . . . so, if you're coming from New Orleans, I would recommend this route: Take the Mississippi River Bridge to the Westbank and take exit 9A for Terry Parkway. Stay on Terry Parkway for about 3 miles until you get to Belle Chase Hwy. (it should be the one after Belle Meade). Turn right on Belle Chase and go 1/4-1/2 mile to Timberlane Dr. and turn left. Drive about 2 miles down Timberlane Dr. and the golf course will be the right.
Awesome Experience
Other courses across the country should take lessons from this course. Staff was the greatest and I felt welcomed very much. I can't remember when I had a better experience playing a course for the first time. Great staff and course was great. Brand new carts was also a plus. Will return again soon.
Great Bunkers
I played Timberlane for the first time on April 15. The course was in pretty good condition except a few of the greens had some bare spots. The bunkers were very good with loose, clean sand. Most bunkers at public courses in this area are more mud holes than bunkers. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging round in the NOLA area.
Fun and challenging course
This was my second time playing Timberlane.and I've enjoyed it both times. This course is quite challenging.
The staff is always courteous and helpful. The carts are in better shape than most clubs in this price range. The practice facilities are well-kept and chipping and putting offers plenty of variety to warm up several types of shots.
The course conditions are above average for this price range. The fairways are essentially immaculate, the rough and bunkers are well-kept. The greens are at about 90%. Only one hole had serious green issues. The last time I was out, they were well-mowed and not too dry or wet. this time, they were a little wet, but not unbearably so.
All in all, it's a good course for a great price, especially on hot deal.
