Hot Time at Joe B.
Hadn't played in two weeks and was "jones-in" to go out. With bad weather pending, I wasn't sure I would be able to play. Thankfully, the rain held off and it was a hot but breezy afternoon at Joe. B. in Ponchartrain Park. The fairways are in excellent condition right now. The greens are another story. Most have either fungal damage or heat damage, not sure which one. However with a little creativity, say, placing your ball in an undamaged line of sight, this challenge can be overcome. In fact, I only did it once yesterday, so maybe it won't have to be done at all.
Beautifully warm and breezy weather with few golfers, probably scared-off by fear of bad weather. The course is mostly flat with a challenging layout. Good course for the average or above-average golfer.
Great value
Friendly staff nice course. I enjoy playing this course and recommend it
Best value in NO
I have played most public and some private courses in NO and continue to come back to "Joe Bart." Lots of water and big oak trees make the fairways challenging. The greens need work but are also topographically challenging. It is generally easy to get a tee time and it rarely takes more than 4 hours to play.
It used to have a pretty good breakfast/lunch restaurant. That has been closed for a while. Lunch at the Ponchatrain Landing, overlooking the Industrial Canal, is a short drive away, with a very good lunch menu.
NOLA Gem
I play this course every time I come to New Orleans. The course is in very good condition,, the people friendly, the pace of play is good and overall it’s a great value.
Great value
Have played this course a number of times and enjoyed every time.
Good for the price
A few challenges out there and occasionally the pace can get slow. Never saw a Ranger except on the first tee. But it is a good value for the money.
Rangers
The rangers @ this place is the worst. After they pat u down for ur receipt 5 or 6 of them get in the rangers carts an start playing golf crazy
Best value in New Orleans
Course is in reasonably good shape for the cost. A few bare spots in fairways and around greens, inconsistent grass, etc., all is to be expected. But given the cost, it's impossible to beat this course in the New Orleans area.
Great round at JB muni
First time playing this course and it was a pleasureable round. I will definitely go back. I'm sure this place is busy on the weekend, but today was a good paced single round. I was able to find the next hole fairly easy following the guy in front of me, but the layout is pretty straight forward. They take good care of the greens and the tee boxes. There were some bare spots, but few and far between. Also the bunkers were some of the best I've been in. Had no trouble getting out.
Golf nut
Course in excellent condition. The only compliant i have is they allow groups of 5 and 6 tee off together rather than splitting them up. Those groups drastically slow the pace of play. Turns 4hr round into a 5 to 6 hr. round.
Best Municipal 18 in New Orleans
For the Money you can't beat this course
Tee boxes: Good not a single complaint, some where wet but it has been rainy so it isn't the courses fault. Fairways: Good, clear delineation of fairway and rough. When I played there were some areas where the fairways were wet so the course doesn't have the best drainage in areas, but when it rains every day you just have to play lift clean and place. Greens: Good! Sandy to combat the rain, but somehow they were still fastish and rolled true, so no complaints. Layout: Decent, it wasn't the most beautiful layout, but it was moderately difficult. The wet conditions made the course tougher because there are some longer holes so it was all about how far you could carry your driver.. Overall: I enjoyed my round and would recommend if you want to get a nice 18 holes in. Friendly staff, plenty of drinkable cold water, and decent conditions. It is a great municipal course.
Great course
The course is in great shape but be aware with all the rain it's cart path only some holes.
Good course for the money
I enjoyed the course a lot. It's not in the same league as English Turn but for the price it was in good shape and challenging with lots of water and sand. Staff was friendly, they had a beverage cart, restaurant and bar. No complaints.
