i had a good time, but direction to the holes could be
better. had to ask for location a couple of times..
course in pretty good shape...
new layout
this was the first time [playing this course in it's new layout. Did not enjoy it. Front side more like an executive course with 4 par threes and 5 par fours and the back side starting with three par fives, two of them under 400 yards, Snack bar, after #11 was not staffed when we got there and had to wait until the barman turned up, hot dogs ready but no buns, had to go find them. On completion again no one serving in the snack bar although plenty of staff drinking there, finally found barman, all said not an agreeable round, was probably just about right for the $13 fee.
Thank you for playing our course. We thank you for your review and bringing some of these issues to our attention and apologize for some of the inconveniences that you encountered. We will make sure that these issues are addressed for future visits. We hope to see you out here again.
Changes
The Par 70 is a bit misleading. I played from the whites and should have played from the tips. The course, I've played hundreds of times but BEFORE they did this remodel. Three of the holes are gone. Vanished. Across the street, they are building homes where #11 and 12 used to be. he par 3 #10 is gone as well. The shortened a couple of holes, added a par number to some. #1 used to e a par 5. Now it's a par 4 and then a par 3. Same with old #2. It's now a short par 4 and a par 3. Some more changes on the back nine. Funniest is 3 par 5s in a row and one, if you hit a high ball, you can reach in one. The 'new' tee box in in the middle of the old driving range. Where they should have put the tee boxes is by the condos by the road coming in. It's a different look, some same holes, lots of different ones. I enjoyed it, and I was disappointed at some of it. I do play on playing again and then making suggestions to the head pro. But par 70? No. It's more like the Fountains Course at Lawrence Welk down the hill. Somewhere around a par 65-68. No more than that. And do something about those three par 5s in a row. That's just ridiculous.
Good course for the money
The course is in fairly good shape. I used to play here a lot when it was called Meadowlake. Finding hole #12 took us a little time. If there's a sign directing people where to go, we never saw it. The people working here were friendly and polite.
Great quiet relaxing place!
Come support this gem, this is a great place to golf without the crowd and is a relaxing place to have a good round!!
Desert course in the mountains???
Very quirky course....very short, need to play from tops for any sort of challenge...rough is very very penal...off the green areas and you are dead...greens in decent shape, some run fast, some a little slow....a couple are almost unfair with pin placements and Undulations....32 front part, 38 back par....huh?!?! Card does not match tee box signs, pretty frustrating...needs work, but once u get kinks worked out, might be really good. But not now....
Get what you pay for!
Too many people on the course
Very very short
If you miss the fairway it's just dirt and unplayable.
Yardage was all wrong...the par 5 12th says 495 yards, which I drove the green
Greens were in a very poor condition
Great setting, could be a really nice course, but needs a lot of work..
Better off buying a bucket of balls and going to the range
GREAT
HAD FUN WITH THE PEOPLE I PLAY EVERY BODY WAS HAPPY AND LIKE THE COURSE.
How can you beat $15?
Golfnow deal for $12 is unbeatable. Overall fun course. I feel like true par is only from the tips as otherwise there are some 300yd par 5s. The few new greens are rock hard and a bit psycho for the slopes they have.
Bright Future
Course is going through some renovation. Once complete, this will be a must play course. Hidden, quiet and scenic!
Rebuild of course coming along real well.
Played old course many times over the years. Really enjoyed playing the re built course the first time. Will continue to play and watch it develop. Good job taking place.
Fun little course to play
No need to hit the ball as far as you can on this course. Accuracy is the key. Fairways and greens are in decent shape. Bunkers are hard packed though. Nice job on creating a drought tolerant course. I played this course about 15 years ago and the layout has really changed.
A works in progress...
This place WAS A DOGTRACK. The new ownership are working on it. It's pretty short. They have moved the configuration around. Can't use a GPS. It will take some time. If not for the GolfNow price I would skip it.
Don't play here unless....
You and your group want to have an awesome time! We have played the past 3 out of 4 weeks here and the course has been in excellent shape. The greens have been smooth as butter and the rough is nice and lush. As some of the other reviews stated, you can golf at your own pace without having anyone driving up while you're on the box. Surprised more people are not playing this course!
Give this course a shot and you won't regret it!
Boulder Oaks -A Hidden Challenge
Boulder Oaks is not your typical Par 70 track... It is a tough, well designed, and challenging course in the foothills of San Diego County. The re-design has created some very interesting tee box locations, where your sight of the fairway is limited and you need to rely on your drive accuracy to score well. I've played many "Wide-open courses where your errant shots don't hurt as much.
Boulder Oaks is not that. The course has incorporated natural breaks and reduced the grass areas significantly in an effort to reduce water consumption. I think it has made me a better golfer as I now have to consider my shots carefully instead of relying on an open expanse of fairway to save me from a penalty.
With additional changes coming soon, the challenge of playing well on this course will increase a bit, but, the course condition and setting make for a very enjoyable round of golf. It is definitely not your average, easy to play, forgiving course. However, if you like a beautiful setting and great views along with a bit of a challenge, this is a perfect choice.
Go to course!
This has been our go to course for a while. We play here once a week. They course is on point right now. Very lush and green and a joy to play. We tend to book early and play at our pace with zero wait and no one behind. I'm surprised it's not busier. The prices are great and the staff are friendly.
They are extending some holes and they are a challenge.
New Design is terrible
Staffing is a real issue. Shop guy had to lock up the shop to go get carts from the barn. No Starter, no one knew where to go. 8 people on the first tee just sitting in their carts. All different tee times. We just jumped out 10 minutes after our start time. The course was always fun to play (meadow lake that is). Yes by all means save water, but this topography does not fit the new desertscape design. The course is no longer enjoyable. Aesthetically I found it ugly. Good luck, but if you are going to charge to play you must have appropriate staffing to service your guests. We will not be returning.
Hello,
Thank you for playing our course and taking time to provide a review. We are sorry that your experience with us did not meet your expectations. I dont know when you were here but it sounds like it was during a shift change and we dropped the ball. I'm sorry to hear that the new layout is not to your liking since so many of our customers have given us high praise for both the improvements and the course. We would be happy to offer you another round on us if you would like to give us another try. Please call us at 760.749.1620 and ask for Rick Johnson - General Manager. We look forward to correcting this issue. Happy Golfing from the Staff at Boulder Oaks
