Enjoyed this course. Unfortunately the kitchen closed early and it was still early in the day. Not much to choose from for snacks.
Hi,
Thank you for your review and we;re happy to hear that you enjoyed the course. We are considering keeping the restaurant open a little later than usual for the football season, but we appreciate the feedback. Hope to see you soon.
First Time since remodel
Very impressed with changes. Its obvious management is making improvements and cares about this facility. Greens were very good as were fairways. I will return.
Hi dsullivan16,
Thank you for your review and taking notice of the changes we are trying to achieve. We hope to see you here more often and bring your friends.
Until next time...:)
Improved layout
My husband and I played in the afternoon. It had been months since we last played here. We noticed right away that the layout had changed. They have posted signs so that you can easily follow the layout. Before, there was an area we always were confused which way to go. They have it all marked now. Since we golfed in the afternoon, the pace of play was excellent. We finished the coarse in less than 4 hours. This course has drought tolerant landscaping with big boulders as hazards. We really enjoyed ourselves. They also have brand new carts. One improvement needed is to water the tee boxes. Many were very difficult to get the tee into the ground. Kudos for all the improvements.
Good morning ValleyPrincess,
Thank you for playig Boulder oaks and giving a great review! We are striving daily to improve course conditions. I'm happy to hear that you like the changes we are making. Another big change will be the opening of our Driving range Friday September 15. We look forward to seeing you again.
Undo the Redo
I have been playing the former Meadow Lake golf course for thirty years. My heart is broken when I go there now. They performed a turf removal redesign to save water and create some marketable resale land. I get that. But to me, the course has been vandalized. It looks as if someone sprayed graffiti on the Mona Lisa. It is unplayable and the cart paths are so bad you feel like you are on a Raiders of the Lost Ark ride at Disneyland. Very sad victim of the recession and a 7 year drought, and a very poor redesign.
Good morning daddyrick,
Thank you for your comments. We understand how you feel with the turf reduction, unfortunately with southern california drought, we are doing all we can to help save water. We are doing our best efforts to have the best tee boxes, fairways and greens On our project "to-do" list is to grade all cart paths and natural areas do to the heavy rains in early 2017. And with the new fleet of cart, driving carts paths have been much improved. We hope to see again.
Fun Track great value
This course has gained great character since the renovation. The turf reduction program and hole redesign changed the course for the better. Still has potential for improvement, however great track for the value. The brand new fleet of carts made the unimproved cart paths more forgiving.
Challenging
If you haven't played this, it will beat you up. It would help if the Tee's Has a diagram on the blind shots. I had not played here in 20+ years. I like this course a lot but to really enjoy it you need to have played it a few times. I am glad it is back; the employees are really friendly.
Thank you for the great review. We do love having a challenging course. Our friendly staff look forward to seeing you again.
Very Pleasant Round
Course itself is a mix of full length and short holes, redesigned from what it was as Meadow Lake. It requires all the clubs in your bag but no forced carries. Course conditions are excellent from tees through fairways to greens, and the bunkers are properly maintained with good sand. Playing here is a pleasant golf experience.
Enjoyed the course
Pace of play as excellent. Playedfrom the whites, should have played from theblues. We play here often. I like the new 12th. They are spending money on this course. We will be back.
Thank you Mr. LPeters for teh 4 Star review. We are working on he finishing touches on #12 and then extending 3 more holes to give all tees a bit more challenge. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Thank you Michael for the 5 Star review!! We look forward to seeing here at Boulder Oaks Golf Club. Next you will see a new fleet of carts and a new driving range (9.1)
Hi Denkel4,
Thank you for sharing your 5 Star review of Boulder Oaks. We look forward to seeing you again.
Greens are shameful
They have 2 types of grass in the greens and in the fairways, the one that grows upwards, and the one that grows to the sides like a snake. Since I am not an agronomist I would not be able to tell you their names, but let's just say that the snake type is not the ideal one for golf. When putting, the ball goes anywhere, but straight. The course is more into the executive type, so not too many chances of using your driver are given. Not happy about it. Good thing we reserved through ClickitGolf, for they usually want 39.00 at noon. are you kidding me? that's too much for such a low quality course.
I am afraid we will not be taking another trip from South San Diego to play here. It is just not worth it!
Hi,
Thank you for your review and taking notice of the greens.
Kikuyugrass, Pennisetum clandestinum, (Fig. 1) is an extremely aggressive perennial weed of turfgrass, ornamental plantings, orchards, and noncrop areas in California. Native to East Africa, kikuyugrass is well adapted to warm, temperate climates such as those of the coast and inland valleys of Southern and Central California.
With the cooler weather we are addressing the ssue and we have sprayed all our greens to reduce and remve the Kikuya.
We hope to see you soon and let us know how the greens have cleaned up.
Neat little course, that's easy to get around.
This is a nice course, that's easy to get around. Pace of play was 3 1/2 hrs. Conditions were good, although the greens were a little slow. My only criticism is they re-routed the course and what used to be a logical layout, has turned into a miss-mash of holes that don't seem to have any order to them.
Hi cf3968032,
Thank you for the 4 Star review! I'm happy to hear of a great pace of play and getting around the course was easy. We are currently taking a look at better signage to get golfers to their next tees in a logical and sensible order, As far as the greens, when the weather is less humid we can mow the greens to a better speed. Look to play when its little less humid with our greens around the 9.5 on the stimp.
See you soon!
i had a good time, but direction to the holes could be
better. had to ask for location a couple of times..
course in pretty good shape...
Hi billweyers,
Thank for a wonderful review! We are taking note to get better signage on the course for directions. We look forward to seeing you at the beautiful and fun Boulder Oaks GC.
new layout
this was the first time [playing this course in it's new layout. Did not enjoy it. Front side more like an executive course with 4 par threes and 5 par fours and the back side starting with three par fives, two of them under 400 yards, Snack bar, after #11 was not staffed when we got there and had to wait until the barman turned up, hot dogs ready but no buns, had to go find them. On completion again no one serving in the snack bar although plenty of staff drinking there, finally found barman, all said not an agreeable round, was probably just about right for the $13 fee.
Thank you for playing our course. We thank you for your review and bringing some of these issues to our attention and apologize for some of the inconveniences that you encountered. We will make sure that these issues are addressed for future visits. We hope to see you out here again.
Changes
The Par 70 is a bit misleading. I played from the whites and should have played from the tips. The course, I've played hundreds of times but BEFORE they did this remodel. Three of the holes are gone. Vanished. Across the street, they are building homes where #11 and 12 used to be. he par 3 #10 is gone as well. The shortened a couple of holes, added a par number to some. #1 used to e a par 5. Now it's a par 4 and then a par 3. Same with old #2. It's now a short par 4 and a par 3. Some more changes on the back nine. Funniest is 3 par 5s in a row and one, if you hit a high ball, you can reach in one. The 'new' tee box in in the middle of the old driving range. Where they should have put the tee boxes is by the condos by the road coming in. It's a different look, some same holes, lots of different ones. I enjoyed it, and I was disappointed at some of it. I do play on playing again and then making suggestions to the head pro. But par 70? No. It's more like the Fountains Course at Lawrence Welk down the hill. Somewhere around a par 65-68. No more than that. And do something about those three par 5s in a row. That's just ridiculous.
Good course for the money
The course is in fairly good shape. I used to play here a lot when it was called Meadowlake. Finding hole #12 took us a little time. If there's a sign directing people where to go, we never saw it. The people working here were friendly and polite.
Great quiet relaxing place!
Come support this gem, this is a great place to golf without the crowd and is a relaxing place to have a good round!!
Desert course in the mountains???
Very quirky course....very short, need to play from tops for any sort of challenge...rough is very very penal...off the green areas and you are dead...greens in decent shape, some run fast, some a little slow....a couple are almost unfair with pin placements and Undulations....32 front part, 38 back par....huh?!?! Card does not match tee box signs, pretty frustrating...needs work, but once u get kinks worked out, might be really good. But not now....
