Course is a great value. Passable golf.
Take lots of balls! Lots of slope no matter what the card says.
Some forced carries, balls tend to scoot off the course. Greens have been OK.
good times
Layout is challenging like a country club course but without the egregious expense. When driving in the carts, focus on the rugged ATV-aspect of the cart path and think of yourself on a golf safari deep into the desert southwest. You'll rattle your bones, of course, but you'll also see some great scenes of animals and birds doing their things au natural. You'll also hear the anguished cries of good golfers on the hole beside you bemoaning their double bogies. That's a natural part of Fred Enke, too.
LOVE THE LAYOUT , SETS UP FOR REAL GOOD COURSE MGMT. BALL PLACEMENT IS A MUST IF YOU WANT TO SCORE WELL. TRICKY GREENS & FAST.
IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THE CITY DOES NOT GROOM THIS COURSE AS IT IS A CHALLENGE & A REAL DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. sOME OF MY BUDDIES WON'T PLAY THIS COURSE ONLY BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS TOO DIFFICULT.
the course is a little dry so ball bounces alot of grass and greens are hard to hold due to lack of moisture
the course is dry but I am sure that is due to lack of funding and influx of money coming in and knowing this course will soon be shutting its doors is truly sad. one of my favorite courses in tucson to play.
Great public course, excellent pitching and chipping area
Community course gem, very friendly staff challenging holes, back 9 open fairways - beautiful desert landscape perfect family friendly outing.
The best city course. No hard hat needed
A very good layed out desert course that needs tender loving care and a pro who should go out on the course and greet people
SETUP WAS GREAT BUT CARE OF COURSE WAS MISSING
dISAPOINTTED AT CONDITION YOU COULD TELL THE CITY DID NOT CARE TO TRY TO FIX FAIRWAYS OR CART PATHS THE GREENS WERE GOOD BUT THE REST WAS SAD TO SEE THAT THE CITY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THIS COURSE. IT IS A CHALLANGE BUT CARE HURTS ANY HOPE.
A True Tucson Classic
For all of the local Tucson golfers one of our favorites. A real shame the city council and Mayor have proposed closing this course soon. Please support this golf couse and it is possible we can save it.
Very good layout, but course needs TLC
This Tucson City corse has a challenging layout with plenty of risk. The fairways ere very dry in mid November, detracting from playability. Greens are true, quick and in good shape. Our group was never held up, but we played slow as we were off the fairway frequently. The trails are in very rough shape as are the golf carts.
I really like the couse, and hope the city adds water, improves the trails and upgrades the carts. This could be a fantastic couse.
Desert layout with some challenges.
Played here while visiting the folks living in Tucson. Enke course was a challenging layout from white tees. Shortish, with a lot of blind shots and tee shots that one needs to know where to land for optimal angle to the green. Not in pristine condition relative to the other selections in Tucson but for $20 riding (thanks golf now) it was nice. If I was living in this area I would probably play here often rather than shell out the big bucks for the other courses. Greens were a little bumpy sorta like bent grass in Michigan a week after being aerated and top dressed .
Great shape
I really like this course. More difficult than the rest of th city courses. Played as a twosome first thing in the morning.
Challenging Course
This course challenges you in so many ways. Doglegs and desert conditions provide risk reward situations. Always enjoy playing here.
Greens Rolled True!
Front side greens were excellent and rolled really nice. The back side was a little choppy but they are in the middle of a re-seed. Got done in under 4 hours.
this course is in terrible shape
used to be a great course in good shape now is in terrible shape and doesn't plan to improve..
Course being ignored by the City of Tucson
I live near Fred Enke and use the driving range and chipping area/putting green often (2x week). The course has so much potential but is mis managed. We played Sunday afternoon around 1230 and the pace of play was fine. However, the tee boxes and front nine fairways weren't cut for the weekend and were 4-5 days uncut. The greens were fine. The back nine tees and fairways seemed that they were mowed more recently. Back nine greens were fine. The management doesn't seem to understand that their product needs to be competitive, especially on the weekend, and they have to mow and rake the traps. Cart paths are a disaster. Sad. Will play elsewhere...
Nice but not perfect
I've only played Fred Enke three times and I played this last time because I read it was to close. My wife and I both enjoyed the play and the wilderness setting. We will be playing it more often and I would recommend it to any level golfer.
Too bad it's closing, but that's politics isn't it?
Great course for money.
Please do all you can to save Enke. It's unique and all we have on this side of town.
nice desert course
you have to hit the ball, you can't pansy it definitly a challenge makes you play golf
Rough conditions
Many of the fairways handn't been mowed in a long time, making them longer than many roughs. In fact, it was difficult finding the ball in the middle of some fairways. Guess the course is doomed to be a meandering park, but no reason to keep the mower in the shed
