Course has seen better days, always slow play
with course looking like it will be closing soon, they have nt kept up with its condition and as always, overbook the tee times, amking for a long slow day.
course needs work
Fred Enke needs to remain open. Its the only city course with personality. The fairways were not great on this day and need attention. Greens also bumby at least most of them. Are they letting the course go? Lets get Fred Enke back to where it was and keep it open.
This course has an interesting design.
The course is slated to be closed and turned into a nature park. This has been in the paper and it's obvious that the city isn't putting any money into the upkeep. The course is interesting to play and has a number of very good holes but takes some local knowledge to attack. It's not the best course in town but I believe it's good enough to keep in playing condition as once it's gone then when the need arises it will be more expensive to build a new course than use what you have.
Fun desert course with ups and downs, greens rough.
I shot an 89,my partner shot 81. His putts went in, mine missed (too many). Greens have a growth which provides bumps--hard to read. The hills and the cactus provides challenges.
Fun and challenging
This course is scheduled to close due to lack of funding by the city. What a shame. Hope they reconsider.
Needs work...."Water".
The fairways are in desperate need of water. Greens are rough with some kind of growth. The cart we had the brakes kept sticking when used. I played this course in the early fall and was in a lot better shape than now. Considering the price guess was ok.
Too many blind shots.
The first few holes have several blind shots that make it difficult for a player playing for the first time on this course. It is also tight in some critical areas, lagain making it difficult. Lost several balls although rarely lose one one my home course..
Mediocre fairways, poor greens.
The fairways were not overseeded this year but they are playable. It's a shame to see how poor the greens are now though. Maybe it's the recent cold weather but there is almost no grass on them except for clumps of poa. This is the time when you expect the best conditions. Only a deep discount on GolfNow made these conditions tolerable.
Great Course Layout
Some one should tell the City of Tucson, especailly the commissioners, to water this course. One of the most difficult public golf courses in Tucson - great layout. .
Course is in ok shape
The course is in pretty good shape. The recent frost has had some effect on the course. Some of the greens are a spotty, but overall very playable.
Will be sad to see it go.
Greens are bumpy and rough, little overseeding and the carts are poor even by city standards. All what has been come to be expected at Fred Enke. Even so, the course layout is very enjoyable. Been playing this course for twenty years and will be sorry to see it go.
POOR COURSE CONDITIONS
I guess when it is widely reported that your course is shutting down, you neglect it. It definitely is in terrible shape right now. Greens were bumpy with patches of mud and grass, fairways were non existent, dead grass in rough and fairways. Even other city courses were in better shape then Enke. Take your money elsewhere, unless you want to hit some golfballs around for $30 bucks.
Fred Enke Is a great price
Good golf for a cheap price... you get what you pay for
very challenging layout
the green are in terrible condition..the fairways are dry and there are several other impeadments in the field of play ie holes sprinkle heads and trees. the wind was blowing very hard and it was not easy to make a proper assessment at this time,,
Challenging Desert Course for the Average golfer. Fun
I always enjoy the course. The condition is very playable, but not up to that of 'open to the public courses' I normally play, but still fun. Distances across desert shots are not so far as to make it difficult for the average weekend golfer. Lots of variety and great view.
Great place to practice new shots
Played 9 holes. Few other players on the course. Had time to rehit shots and use this as a practice round.
Staff was nice inside and outside.
Fairways are better than most years. The greens still need work but they are consistent. Very fast but they still bite and break.
Work has been done to clear out brush in a few locations. Others still need attention but overall this is a great desert golf course.
Hope it stays open
This is a great course. It is a challenging desert course that is tough but has great views and will be a loss for Tucson if the city closes it. It does need attention so don't expect luxury (or green fairways). Lots of desert wildlife.
Grate layout.
This is one of the best layout in Tucson area. If city could invest some money to make a car-pat and just slightly improve grass condition this course will be full all the time.
I like to play Fred Enke and I will come back to play again.
Challenging desert course.
Challenging municipal desert course, scheduled for closure June 2013 due to City budget constraints.
Nice course, good, challenging greens.
Course was in good condition, especially for 1st day of winter. Played from Gold Tee, making distances reasonable for us. Green undulations and pin placements made for challenging putts but fair.
Pace of play was not so good, either someone had been late for their tee time or walk on was allowed that set all tee times back and then our foursome waited for the group ahead on every shot on every hole, except for putting of course. There got to be a little gap ahead of them, but perhaps not an entire hole.
Will certainly try again and hope for better pace.
