Rough conditions
Many of the fairways handn't been mowed in a long time, making them longer than many roughs. In fact, it was difficult finding the ball in the middle of some fairways. Guess the course is doomed to be a meandering park, but no reason to keep the mower in the shed
Better than most.
Rough in some areas just off the fairways, needs to be mowed. Shouldn't lose a ball like that . The cart paths are terrible. Like competing in a rodeo. The course is very challenging and fun to play. Target golf. Greens are good. It's a city course that confirms the city is broke but can afford to water, unlike many other local courses that can't afford the water. Only going to overseed the greens this year.
Course needs maintenance
While the course was playable, the golf carts should be taken out and junked. Not only were they in bad repair, they were dangerous due to bad breaks and steering,.
The golf paths were also in bad repair and in some cases due to erosion, dangerous. There was also a lack of signage, to get from green to T. For regulars this was not much of an issue, but for guests, it was a pain.
The low cost to play, will not bring me back.
Course shot makers
Much better shape than last time.Greens very good, not enough staff starter getting carts.
Needs help
You should be rewarded w/a drive that hits the fairway but not so much at Enke. Downhill lies coupled w/dead or no grass, or crabgrass that is unkept is to be expected. Pace of play was very slow, the carts are on their last leg & facilities are antiquated.
The problem is not course mgmt as much as Tucson Muni biting off more than they can chew w/the amount of courses they fund. Tucson should focus on a few muni GCs to make them great & let a couple go.
Course in poor condition, cart paths rutted, quit after 9 holes.
Course in frightful condition, cart paths made it loike a 4-wheeling experience. Actually lost balls hit down middle of fairway. Would not play this course again.
The rough is (rough)!
I thought the course was in good shape. The greens were
average, but in fairly good shape.
good course to play
deep first cut of rough makes tracking errant shots challenging. good course for different types of shots.
This desert course punishes those who stray from the fairway.
It is a lot of fun if you can stay in the fairway. The terrain is hilly and picturesque. The cart paths are in terrible shape. I walk the course, but it is an effort. The back nine is easier than the front.
Nice course layout. Short but challenging.
Overall the course is very scenic for a city course. Most of the fairways are not wide open. It requires some planing and execution to score well otherwise you will lose your balls out in the desert.. Bring a lot of extra balls if you are an occasional golfer.
The course condition is average. Tee boxes are not well maintained, but the greens are always in good shape. I will not pay the full price that the city charges. Stick with Golfnow deals.
Great target golf course.
Great course to test ALL golf skills. Bring plenty of golf balls!
Typical desert course.
This is a typical desert municipal course. Conditions aren't the greatest in the world but the layout is decent enough to keep you interested. Inconsistency in the condition of the traps. Bring a lot of ammo if you spray the ball around. Don't go looking for lost balls during the summer months as snakes can be an issue.
Cart Paths leave your back and kidneys wanting smoother surfaces.
Considering the time of year and comparing other courses under the over seeding processes this was a very good round. The fairways and greens are in good shape and ready for the winter over seeding. However, but knowing, the financial condition of the City courses I still must say the cart paths need immediate attention!
Close to Home
I play it 2 times a month because its close. I would play it more but I like to move around.
This course has great personality.
The Fred Enke golf course is not the longest city golf facility, but it certainly provides the most challenge. Every golf hole is unique with its own personality. Many of the tee shots are blind and the player is forced to be precise with the position of their ball in the fairway. In addition, the rough is a little bit longer than other city golf courses and every fairway is surrounded by desert. The scenery is spectacular and there are no urban views or noise distractions. I rarely play my best on this course but I love the challange.
Great and challenging course.
I really enough playing this course because of its challenges. There are not really any cart paths so it get a bit bumpy so hold onto you beer, but worth it. The last time I played it was a little slow and backed up at every tee box, but normally pace of play is very good.
Has a wouderful setting and will test your skills
This is a great course to play when you know the yardage of your clubs and you play with in your capabilties. The more you force a shot the more trouble you can get into. Great place to play with Freinds.
Very good layout
The course is kind of difficult but has a great layout. Since it is a municipal course it was not maintained as nice as a resort course but the maintenance was adequate. I think the course might have been in better condition if I had played it in the winter months.
Great time!
Course is in great shape. The greens, fairways and tees are excellent. The rough was a little long and being Bermuda, the balls settle and are hard to find so keep an eye on your ball after you hit it.
The opportunity to see desert animals and play golf is the best in town!
I play Enke because it is a challenge and because the staff is always there with a smile and a "Hi Welcome Back!" I always enjoy seeing the javelina, coyotes, snakes, and the occasioanl bobcat, We share the course. Enke is a quiet place where you can work on aspects of your game especially when it is above 100 degrees and most of the golfers are gone. This is my favorite city course.
