del Lago Golf Club

About
del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Headed back to Plymouth MA 12/18....after this. Photo submitted by bkunc55 on 12/24/2012
Dry, very dry
The fairways are pretty rough, but it's been a dry summer and they are prepping for overseeding. I expect conditions to improve as the weather cools, like pretty much any Arizona course.
The layout is good, lots of elevation change and variety. It's not the tightest course but there are plenty of chances to lose balls and there's no parallel fairways to save a big miss.
Rain?
The only reason del Lago gets bad grade is because there's no grass on the fairways. Why? Just not enough rain obviously and that is something they have no control over, and the cost to water far too much.
Course is lost, totally smoked
As burnt of a course as I’ve ever played. It was crazy.
Let’s get real.
Reading all the terrible reviews I need to remind everyone that we are in a drought. Without the normal monsoon rain to help greens keepers are really struggling. Yes the fairways are spotty and bare in lots of places. But having played several other local courses I can say that without exception all the greens and collars within 30 or so yards surrounding them were in better condition than many I’ve played.
Greens all uniform, no sand and in nice shape.
It was ok
The club house guy wasn’t very friendly…never really is so much. Also, no beverage cart today. Was out from 0940-1240 and no refreshments, so bring your own. At least they can place water coolers out every three holes of so. It was close to 100. The greens guys were great. Stopped and said hi. One even picked up my towel when it blew out of the cart and brought it to me. Good job greens guys.
Course condition
This was once a beautiful house but has detieriated immensely this year, I realize they are preparing for overseeding but this course is unplayable and not worth the $20 we paid., cart girl was great and and did show up a few times , which was good because the restaurant/bar was closed even though it was labor day, not a good golfing experience
Fairways
great course, good layout, Beautiful scenery.
The fairways were mostly dirt, nothing green, but it was the end of August.
A 12oz can of bud light was $6.50 the cheapest they had and no bags of ice to keep them cold.
Preparing for fall
Had a good round. Be prepared as they are getting ready for fall. So the greens have sand and there’s work on the tee boxes. But it’s all good. Looking forward to fall and winter golf.
Course in great condition and people very friendly.
This course is long.
Hard long course. A lot of time spent in cart driving from the spread out hole layout. No water at all to drink on course so bring your own. Greens are very well kept. Hi vis balls easier to find on the dry fair ways.
Totally baked out
The fairways are totally baked out. The greens are perfect. They are clearly watering only the greens. The rest of the course is terrible.
Not as bad as the reviews!
For what is normally the most overpriced golf course in town, Del Lago was actually a decent value this time. The fairways are a little spotty, but the greens are fair! And during a Tucson summer thats all you can expect. You always get to practice your downhill lies on the driving range and the starter always asks "is this your first time playing here?" As if there is something unique about this course??? Normal etiquette will get you around just fine. Playable before 8/25, the punching is coming!
Bad bunkers!
The bunkers need help. Inconsistent sand or lack of it at all.
Great Course
I Played this course a few times last year but just haven’t made it out there this year till now. I forgot how fun this course is. It’s challenging with some tight fairways and great elevation changes. It makes for a fun time playing the course. It’s the middle of summer here in Tucson so it’s hot, but the course is still in great shape.
