Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Downhill
This course has always been tough but with overgrown and uneven t boxes it makes it even harder. The fairways if you can call them that are very hard and patchy. Youll hit a bomb down the middle and be in-between grass patches. The greens were the only half way decent thing on the course but the patchiness that has been taking over the fairway is starting on the greens. I will not play this course again until some major changes happen especially not for the price they want. I used to really like this course too. Huge bummer.
Conditions
Fairways are very poor, hardly any grass. Greens are slightly better to okay. Most sand traps are hard.
bad fairway lies.
some bad spots on greens but vey little effect over all. most of greens in good shape. many bad lies while on fairways. not smooth
Wally
New policy of no riders ( non players) is a surprise. Have always had my wife ride along. Only way she could participate was to pay gree fnee. Mind boggling! Otherwise, course is the same as usual.
Wait until it gets watered. Terrible right now
The location, staff, course layout were all nice, but the course was so dry I was playing off dirt more than I was grass. The greens were watered although patchy, but the fairways were hardpack dirt.
Course layout has a lot of hole where you may want to take less than driver and has a good amount of elevation change. It would be a fun course if it wasn't so dry. $70 is far too much for how it is currently.
Amazing staff and course
Had an amazing time! Friendly people and the location is beautiful.
Worst course on the central coast
Don't play this course. I live 20 miles away and if it were free , I wouldn't waste the gas to drive there.
Fairways are dead dead. No grass just hard dirt. Greens are poor at best. It looks like this course is going under. If you are heading to the beautiful central cost on a vacation, or a local, plan to play or other great courses.
Awful
Every hole is tricky and hilly, the fairways are basically dirt, and the greens need to be mowed down by about 2 inches. Got lost numerous times, and when you finish the 12th hole instead of their being a sign for the 13th hole there's a sign for the "19th" hole. Place is a joke. Will never play here again; I don't care how inexpensive it is.
In bad shape
Unfortunately this course has fallen into disrepair. The fairways are brown and pot marked with old divots. The greens on the back nine were pretty tough. The green on #10 was horrendous and unputtable. It really was that bad. It has a great layout, but in such bad condition that I could not recommend it, even for the $25 cost I paid.
Goat track
The course has largely been ignored by ownership. Fairways are dead and brown greens are patchy and bumpy. This used to be a very nice resort course. Now it’s not worth driving through the gate at any price.
Very dry!
I’m sure by no fault of the management the course is very dry. The greens were decent some were burnt and very bumpy. I’ve played the course many times and it’s in the worst condition I’ve ever seen it.
Too Bad About This Course
Avila Beach is in fast decline. It could be a great track as it meanders through the hills near Avila Beach. Fairways are dry, bunkers are hard pan, and many greens are cracked and in disrepair. Too bad because this could be a gem easily if it was considered a central part of the Avila Beach resort portfolio. Practice facilities were closed. Too bad about this course.
Avila Beach GC - Fairway’s are terrible
This course has a good layout but the fairways are dead grass and the ball rolls off course due to this fact. Most of the greens are not kept up well at all and for the price it’s not worth it.
