Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Perfect Friday round at a great price!
I caught a "hot deal" through golf now and headed to course to verify availability of rental clubs... Not only did I find rental clubs,, I was able to head out early and thoroughly enjoyed the challenging front nine and the round as a whole. Considering the dry conditions in CA at this time, the course was in pretty good shape and played shorter due to the extra roll on the fairways.
Great layout
The course has two very different front and back nines, with lots of variety. The fairway conditions are a bit rough, but the greens are smooth and true. The course, traps and fairways, could use some attention, but if you’re willing to overlook the lack of investment the course has a challenging and varied layout. Pace of play was great, 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon.
Avila
Have played here many times in the past but not for 5-6 years. Still in good shape. Traps need work but that’s not unusual today. Considering the drought the course looked good
My favorite local course
I play this course a couple of times each month and always have a good time. The staff is great and things are, in general, fun and the play is smooth running. Each time I review however, I must emphasize that the bunkers really need some TLC. The surface is just slightly softer than most hiking trails. If this issue is addressed I would give them 5 stars every time I play.
Dong
It was very peace and riverside.
Even I felt very dangerous play in back line. Too many people unplayed people near green and golf course. Course green condition was not very good, very hard most of Course. Layout was very hard to read it.
Ok but will not repeat
Good thing I got a great deal because I was a little disappointed with the course. There was a concert nearby so traffic and parking were difficult. Lots of people roaming around drinking. The course itself was ok, but dried out in places. Greens were in good shape. The back nine had holes in renovation so it was difficult to gauge the course. I would not want to pay the regular full price because the course is quite ordinary.
Pace of Play was an Atrocity
We started at 1:40 and didn’t finish until 6:45. It was the slowest round of golf I’ve ever played. They book the tee times way too close together and it’s not worth your time on the weekends. The dad in the family in front of us got too drunk from all the waiting and somehow beached the cart on a hill behind the 11th green (no point in driving up there, but he was soggy) so that slowed us down even more. Like Blacklake, the course is very poorly maintained. I wish they’d raise the prices for both courses and maintain them better. Instead, I think we’re done coming here on the weekends.
Greens nice — fairways a little shaggy — bunkers are horrible. Driving range balls at least 10 years old.
Great course great layout
Beautiful course. Not long but very small greens. Wild animals everywhere. Very nice and relaxing
Could be such a great track . . . BUT
I played in like 25mph winds so that definitely affected my enjoyment of the round, but was not the biggest factor . . . conditions! Ugh. This would be such a fun track if it was kept in good conditions. Greens were ok (6/10), but everything else needed lots of work. Tee boxes and fairways weedy and patchy. Bunkers rock hard. It is not an easy walk. Signage could be a lot better especially for getting to different tee boxes. I loved the back 9 layout with forced carries over beach inlet and the narrow opening on the first par 5 (#11?). Can't someone put some money into this course to take advantage of such a fun location. In the current condition I would only go back if I got another GolfNow deal AND happened to be in the area with an afternoon free.
Great Golf Course
Amazing layout. Great conditions. Greens are hard and fast but roll true. Really nice lady starter. Very helpful and informative about the course. One of the best values near the coast. Will definitely play again. Even saw a bunch of wild turkeys and dear on the course.
