Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Playing Avila
For the deal I got from Golf passed it was an excellent day of golf. Everybody at the course was extremely friendly and helpful from the starter hut person, pro shop and parking people and the gal selling refreshments on the course. Very satisfied. Some holes were closed due to a concert but overall all a very pleasant afternoon.

I do not recommend playing this course if there is a concert that day!? We tried but it was so unorganized and the extra holes were not good I would not recommend ever playing during a concert
Nice experience
The course provides a great coastal experience. Greens are receptive with both large and small targets. The fairways are often lined with trees, elevation changes and water/hazard carry to greens which can maybe slow down play with higher handicaps. The back 9 is more flat in topagraphy than front side
Kikuyu grass sets up the ball nicely for clean strikes. And of course beautiful scenery located at the beach in a small quaint town.
I played using discount offer in a Thursday afternoon. I know other days and times can provide 5 hour rounds while today was clear sailing. That made it an excellent value. Everyday pricing can be a bit high for the venue as is.
Unique little gem!
My wife and I played this course yesterday and it was a perfect day of golf. We are from Idaho and this course looks very representative of a central coast course close to the water. The course conditions were good and the staff was very helpful. The course design was challenging but had lots of "safe" spots to aim for. I could see that playing it more often would yield a better score. We would definitely play it again!
Fun to play
Other than they did not accept my Golf Now cart play and required me to pay an extra $16 for the cart it was a fun course to play.
Avila Beach
I have played this course about 4 times in the last 20 years and was disappointed this time because it seems the course has deteriorated somewhat from what was a prime course to play to a mediocre one. The fairways are not as lush and the greens are slow and do not roll true as they used to.
Front 9 holes tough cuz hills and slopes . Need be on your game and not to be in a rush in setting up your ball striking.. take your time to view your angle where you should hit the balll..
Does not feel like resort setting
Showed up with wife as spectator and the would not allow her to join me due to lack of carts! Very disappointed with accommodations.and this information is not posted on there web site!
Front 9 needs work, back 9 not bad
Conditions on the front 9 were a little disappointing. A lot of burned out grass, fairly bare patches, etc. A lot of uphill, sidehill, downhill terrain on the front 9. The back 9 had much better conditions and the terrain is a lot flatter.
Great course
This course is challenging and fun. The amateur and low
handicapper will enjoy all the different looks, this course has to offer. That, combined with unparalleled weather,,
will make your outing memorable.
For the location cannot get a better deal
Greens can be off at certain times of year but I great course on the water that is super fun to play …. No better location to enjoy 18 and an amazing view after with a cold one
Avila Resort (if it only lived up to the resort moniker)
Avila Beach, the hotel, and clubhouse area are top notch. However, the course has not kept pace. Greens are one of the few aspects that live up to the expectations. The tee boxes may be the worst of any of the courses in the San Luis Obispo area. They're chunky. bumpy, and with the exception of hole one, are entirely unacceptable. Tee box markers, hole signs, and ball washers have not been attended to in decades. Would never pay whatever the regular green fees are. The $18=$20 range would "fit the bill in my opinion.
